Deuteronomio 5

1 Mosè convocò tutto Israele e disse loro: "Ascolta, Israele, le prescrizioni e i decreti che io oggi pronuncio alle tue orecchie. Imparateli e osservateli, mettendoli in pratica.	1 Moses summoned all Israel and said to them, "Hear, O Israel, the statutes and decrees which I proclaim in your hearing this day, that you may learn them and take care to observe them.
2 Il Signore nostro Dio strinse con noi un'alleanza all'Oreb.	2 The LORD, our God, made a covenant with us at Horeb;
3 Non con i nostri padri il Signore strinse quest'alleanza, ma con noi che oggi siamo qui tutti vivi.	3 not with our fathers did he make this covenant, but with us, all of us who are alive here this day.
4 Il Signore parlò con voi sulla montagna in mezzo al fuoco faccia a faccia;	4 The LORD spoke with you face to face on the mountain from the midst of the fire.
5 io stavo tra il Signore e voi in quel tempo per riferirvi le parole del Signore. Perché voi aveste paura del fuoco e non saliste sulla montagna. Egli disse:	5 Since you were afraid of the fire and would not go up the mountain, I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to announce to you these words of the LORD:
6 "Io sono il Signore tuo Dio, che ti ho fatto uscire dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù.	6 'I, the LORD, am your God, who brought you out of the land of Egypt, that place of slavery.
7 Non avrai altri dèi davanti a me.	7 You shall not have other gods besides me.
8 Non ti farai nessuna figura scolpita di qualsiasi genere: di ciò ch'è in alto nei cieli, di ciò ch'è in basso sulla terra e di ciò che è nelle acque sotto la terra.	8 You shall not carve idols for yourselves in the shape of anything in the sky above or on the earth below or in the waters beneath the earth;
9 Non li adorerai e non li servirai. Perché io, il Signore tuo Dio, sono un Dio geloso, che punisce l'iniquità dei padri sui figli, sulla terza e quarta generazione di coloro che mi odiano,	9 you shall not bow down before them or worship them. For I, the LORD, your God, am a jealous God, inflicting punishments for their fathers' wickedness on the children of those who hate me, down to the third and fourth generation
10 ma fa grazia fino alla millesima generazione di coloro che mi amano e osservano i miei precetti.	10 but bestowing mercy, down to the thousandth generation, on the children of those who love me and keep my commandments.
11 Non ti servirai del nome del Signore tuo Dio per la menzogna, poiché il Signore non lascia impunito chi si serve del suo nome per la menzogna.	11 'You shall not take the name of the LORD, your God, in vain. For the LORD will not leave unpunished him who takes his name in vain.
12 Osserva il giorno del sabato per santificarlo, come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio.	12 'Take care to keep holy the sabbath day as the LORD, your God, commanded you.
13 Per sei giorni lavorerai e farai tutte le tue opere,	13 Six days you may labor and do all your work;
14 ma il settimo giorno è il sabato per il Signore tuo Dio; non farai alcun lavoro, né tu né tuo figlio né tua figlia né il tuo servo né la tua serva né il tuo bue né il tuo asino né alcuna delle tue bestie né il forestiero che si trova entro le tue porte affinché si riposi il tuo servo e la tua serva come te.	14 but the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD, your God. No work may be done then, whether by you, or your son or daughter, or your male or female slave, or your ox or ass or any of your beasts, or the alien who lives with you. Your male and female slave should rest as you do.
15 Ricorda che sei stato servo nella terra d'Egitto e che il Signore tuo Dio ti ha fatto uscire di là con mano forte e braccio steso; perciò il Signore tuo Dio ti ha ordinato di celebrare il giorno del sabato.	15 For remember that you too were once slaves in Egypt, and the LORD, your God, brought you from there with his strong hand and outstretched arm. That is why the LORD, your God, has commanded you to observe the sabbath day.
16 Onora tuo padre e tua madre come ti ha ordinato il Signore tuo Dio, affinché prolunghi i tuoi giorni e sii felice sul suolo che il Signore tuo Dio ti dona.	16 'Honor your father and your mother, as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, that you may have a long life and prosperity in the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
17 Non ucciderai.	17 'You shall not kill.
18 Non commetterai adulterio.	18 'You shall not commit adultery.
19 Non ruberai.	19 'You shall not steal.
20 Non renderai una testimonianza falsa contro il tuo prossimo.	20 'You shall not bear dishonest witness against your neighbor.
21 Non desidererai la moglie del tuo prossimo; non bramerai la casa del tuo prossimo né il suo campo né il suo servo né la sua serva né il suo bue né il suo asino e nulla di quanto è del tuo prossimo".	21 'You shall not covet your neighbor's wife. 'You shall not desire your neighbor's house or field, nor his male or female slave, nor his ox or ass, nor anything that belongs to him.'
22 Queste parole disse il Signore a tutta la vostra assemblea sul monte, in mezzo al fuoco, alle nubi e ai nembi: voce grande! Non aggiunse altro; le scrisse su due tavole di pietra e le diede a me.	22 "These words, and nothing more, the LORD spoke with a loud voice to your entire assembly on the mountain from the midst of the fire and the dense cloud. He wrote them upon two tablets of stone and gave them to me.
23 Quando voi udiste la voce di mezzo alle tenebre, mentre il monte era in fiamme, si avvicinarono a me tutti i vostri capitribù e anziani	23 But when you heard the voice from the midst of the darkness, while the mountain was ablaze with fire, you came to me in the person of all your tribal heads and elders,
24 e mi dissero: "Il Signore nostro Dio ci ha mostrato la sua gloria e la sua grandezza, e abbiamo udito la sua voce di mezzo al fuoco: oggi abbiamo visto che Dio può parlare all'uomo e questi rimanere vivo.	24 and said, 'The LORD, our God, has indeed let us see his glory and his majesty! We have heard his voice from the midst of the fire and have found out today that a man can still live after God has spoken with him.
25 Ma ora perché dovremmo morire? Questo gran fuoco, infatti, ci divorerà. Se noi continuiamo a udire la voce del Signore nostro Dio, moriremo.	25 But why should we die now? Surely this great fire will consume us. If we hear the voice of the LORD, our God, any more, we shall die.
26 Perché chi è fra tutti i mortali che, come noi, abbia udito la voce del Dio vivo che parla in mezzo al fuoco e sia rimasto vivo?	26 For what mortal has heard, as we have, the voice of the living God speaking from the midst of fire, and survived?
27 Accostati tu e ascolta tutto ciò che dirà il Signore nostro Dio; tu ripeterai a noi tutto ciò che ti avrà detto il Signore nostro Dio e noi ascolteremo ed eseguiremo".	27 Go closer, you, and hear all that the LORD, our God, will say, and then tell us what the LORD, our God, tells you; we will listen and obey.'
28 Il Signore udì il suono delle vostre parole mentre voi mi parlavate e mi disse: "Ho udito il suono delle parole di questo popolo, che ti hanno rivolto. Hanno parlato bene in tutto.	28 "The LORD heard your words as you were speaking to me and said to me, 'I have heard the words these people have spoken to you, which are all well said.
29 Potesse il loro cuore essere sempre così nel temere me e nell'osservare tutti i miei precetti, perché fossero felici loro e i loro figli!	29 Would that they might always be of such a mind, to fear me and to keep all my commandments! Then they and their descendants would prosper forever.
30 Va' e di' loro: Ritornate alle vostre tende.	30 Go, tell them to return to their tents.
31 Tu invece resta qui presso di me. Io ti indicherò tutti i precetti, le prescrizioni e i decreti che dovrai insegnare loro, perché li mettano in pratica nella terra che do loro in possesso".	31 Then you wait here near me and I will give you all the commandments, the statutes and decrees you must teach them, that they may observe them in the land which I am giving them to possess.'
32 Guardate dunque di fare come vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio. Non devierete né a destra né a sinistra.	32 "Be careful, therefore, to do as the LORD, your God, has commanded you, not turning aside to the right or to the left,
33 Seguirete tutta la strada che vi ha ordinato il Signore vostro Dio, perché viviate, siate felici, e prolunghiate i vostri giorni sulla terra che occuperete.	33 but following exactly the way prescribed for you by the LORD, your God, that you may live and prosper, and may have long life in the land which you are to occupy.
