LA SACRA BIBBIA	NEW JERUSALEM
1 In seguito si verificò il fatto seguente. Nabot di Izreèl aveva una vigna attigua al palazzo di Acab, re di Samaria.	1 This is what happened next: Naboth of Jezreel had a vineyard close by the palace of Ahab king ofSamaria,
2 Acab disse a Nabot: "Cedimi la tua vigna e ne farò un orto, giacché è vicina al mio palazzo. Al suo posto ti darò una vigna migliore o, se preferisci, ti darò il denaro corrispondente".	2 and Ahab said to Naboth, 'Give me your vineyard to be my vegetable garden, since it adjoins mypalace; I will give you a better vineyard for it or, if you prefer, I wil give you its value in money.'
3 Ma Nabot rispose ad Acab: "Mi guardi il Signore dal cederti l'eredità dei miei antenati!".	3 Naboth, however, said to Ahab, 'Yahweh forbid that I should give you my ancestral heritage!'
4 Acab rientrò in casa triste e adirato a causa di questa risposta che Nabot di Izreèl gli aveva dato, allorché disse: "Non ti cederò l'eredità dei miei antenati". Si gettò sul suo letto, volse la faccia da un lato e non prese cibo.	4 Ahab went home gloomy and out of temper at the words of Naboth of Jezreel, 'I wil not give you myheritage from my ancestors.' He lay down on his bed and turned his face away and refused to eat.
5 Gezabele, sua moglie, andò da lui e gli disse: "Perché il tuo animo è così abbattuto e non vuoi prendere cibo?".	5 His wife Jezebel came to him. 'Why are you so dispirited,' she said, 'that you refuse to eat?'
6 Le rispose: "Ho parlato a Nabot di Izreèl dicendogli: "Cedimi la tua vigna per denaro o, se preferisci, ti darò un'altra vigna al suo posto", ma egli rispose: "Non ti cederò la mia vigna".	6 He said, 'I have been talking to Naboth of Jezreel. I said, "Give me your vineyard either for money or, ifyou prefer, for another vineyard in exchange." But he said, "I wil not give you my vineyard." '
7 Allora sua moglie Gezabele gli disse: "Ora devi esercitare il tuo governo su Israele! Lèvati, prendi cibo e sta' di cuore allegro; io infatti ti darò la vigna di Nabot di Izreèl".	7 Then his wife Jezebel said, 'Some king of Israel you make! Get up, eat and take heart; I myself shalget you the vineyard of Naboth the Jezreelite.'
8 Scrisse delle lettere a nome di Acab, le sigillò con il sigillo reale e le spedì agli anziani e ai notabili che abitavano con Nabot.	8 So she wrote a letter in Ahab's name and sealed it with his seal, sending the letter to the elders and notables of the city where Naboth lived.
9 Così venne scritto nelle lettere: "Bandite un digiuno e fate sedere Nabot alla testa del popolo.	9 In the letter, she wrote, 'Proclaim a fast, and put Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
10 Ponetegli di fronte due uomini perversi che lo accusino dicendo: "Tu hai maledetto Dio e il re". Poi fatelo uscire, lapidatelo e così muoia!".	10 There confront him with a couple of scoundrels who wil accuse him as follows, "You have cursedGod and the king." Then take him outside and stone him to death.'
11 Gli uomini della città di Nabot, gli anziani e i notabili fecero come Gezabele aveva loro ordinato, secondo quanto era scritto nelle lettere che essa aveva loro inviato.	11 The men of Naboth's city, the elders and notables living in his city, did what Jezebel ordered, as waswritten in the letter which she had sent him.
12 Bandirono un digiuno e fecero sedere Nabot alla testa del popolo.	12 They proclaimed a fast and put Naboth in a prominent place among the people.
13 Allora giunsero i due uomini perversi, che si sedettero di fronte a lui e l'accusarono dicendo: "Nabot ha maledetto Dio e il re". Lo fecero uscire fuori della città, lo lapidarono e morì.	13 The two scoundrels then came and confronted him, and the scoundrels then publicly accused Nabothas fol ows, 'Naboth has cursed God and the king.' He was then taken outside the city and stoned to death.
14 Poi mandarono a dire a Gezabele: "Nabot è stato lapidato ed è morto!".	14 They then sent word to Jezebel, 'Naboth has been stoned to death.'
15 Quando Gezabele seppe che Nabot era stato lapidato ed era morto, disse ad Acab: "Lèvati e prendi possesso della vigna che Nabot di Izreèl rifiutò di darti per denaro; Nabot infatti non è più vivo, ma è morto".	15 When Jezebel heard that Naboth had been stoned to death, she said to Ahab, 'Get up! Takepossession of the vineyard which Naboth of Jezreel refused to sel you, for Naboth is no longer alive, he is dead.'
16 Udendo che Nabot era morto, Acab si levò per scendere alla vigna di Nabot di Izreèl e appropriarsene.	16 When Ahab heard that Naboth was dead, he got up to go down to the vineyard of Naboth of Jezreeland take possession of it.
17 Allora la parola del Signore fu rivolta a Elia il tisbita in questi termini:	17 Then the word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite,
18 "Lèvati e scendi incontro ad Acab, re di Israele, in Samaria. Ecco, egli si trova nella vigna di Nabot, dov'è disceso per appropriarsela.	18 'Up! Go down to meet Ahab king of Israel, in Samaria. You will find him in Naboth's vineyard; he hasgone down to take possession of it.
19 Gli dirai: "Così parla il Signore: Tu hai ucciso e, per di più, hai usurpato!". Poi soggiungerai: "Così parla il Signore: Nel medesimo luogo in cui i cani hanno leccato il sangue di Nabot, leccheranno anche il tuo sangue".	19 You are to say this to him, "Yahweh says this: You have committed murder and now you usurp aswel . For this -- and Yahweh says this -- in the place where the dogs licked the blood of Naboth, the dogs will lickyour blood too." '
20 Acab rispose ad Elia: "Mi hai dunque colto sul fatto, o mio nemico?". Elia rispose: "Sì, ti ho colto, perché ti sei prestato a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore.	20 Ahab said to Elijah, 'So you have caught me, O my enemy!' Elijah answered, 'I have caught you! Foryour double dealing, and since you have done what is displeasing to Yahweh,
21 Ecco, io farò venire su di te la sventura e ti spazzerò via; reciderò via da Acab ogni maschio, schiavo o libero in Israele.	21 I shal now bring disaster down on you; I shal sweep away your descendants and wipe out everymanjack of the House of Ahab, fettered or free in Israel.
22 Tratterò la tua casa come quella di Geroboamo, figlio di Nabàt, e come quella di Baasa, figlio di Achia, a causa dell'ira che hai suscitato in me, inducendo Israele a peccare.	22 I shal treat your House as I treated the house of Jeroboam son of Nebat and of Baasha son of Ahijah,for provoking my anger and leading Israel into sin.
23 Anche riguardo a Gezabele il Signore parla in questi termini: "I cani divoreranno Gezabele nel campo di Izreèl.	23 (Against Jezebel too Yahweh spoke these words, "The dogs wil eat Jezebel in the Field of Jezreel.")
24 Della famiglia di Acab chiunque morirà in città lo divoreranno i cani; chiunque morirà in campagna lo mangeranno gli uccelli del cielo".	24 Those of Ahab's family who die in the city, the dogs wil eat; and those who die in the open country,the birds of the air wil eat.'
25 Per la verità non ci fu nessuno che, alla pari di Acab, si prestò a fare ciò che è male agli occhi del Signore, perché sua moglie Gezabele lo aveva sedotto.	25 And indeed there never was anyone like Ahab for double dealing and for doing what is displeasing toYahweh, urged on by Jezebel his wife.
26 Egli agì in modo abominevole, andando dietro agl'idoli come avevano fatto gli Amorrei che il Signore aveva cacciato davanti ai figli d'Israele.	26 He behaved in the most abominable way, adhering to idols, just as the Amorites had, whom Yahwehhad dispossessed for the Israelites.
27 Quando Acab udì queste parole, si stracciò le vesti, rivestì il suo corpo di sacco, digiunò, si coricò con il sacco e si mise a camminare dimesso.	27 When Ahab heard these words, he tore his garments and put sackcloth next to his skin and fasted; heslept in the sackcloth; he walked with slow steps.
28 Allora la parola del Signore fu indirizzata ad Elia il tisbita in questi termini:	28 Then the word of Yahweh came to Elijah the Tishbite,
29 "Hai visto come Acab si è umiliato al mio cospetto? Dal momento che egli si è umiliato al mio cospetto, io non farò venire il male durante la sua vita; solo al tempo di suo figlio farò venire il male sulla sua casa".	29 'Have you seen how Ahab has humbled himself before me? Since he has humbled himself before me,I shal not bring the disaster in his days; I shal bring the disaster down on his House in his son's days.'
