1 Dopo queste cose fu detto a Giuseppe: "Vedi, tuo padre è ammalato!". Allora egli condusse con sé i suoi due figli Efraim e Manasse.	1 After these things were done, it was reported to Joseph that his father was sick. And taking his two sons Manasseh and Ephraim, he went directly to him.
2 Lo riferirono a Giacobbe e gli dissero: "Ecco, tuo figlio Giuseppe è venuto da te". Allora Israele raccolse le forze e si pose seduto sul letto.	2 And it was told to the old man, “Behold, your son Joseph is coming to you.” And being strengthened, he sat up in bed.
3 Giacobbe disse a Giuseppe: "Dio onnipotente mi apparve a Luz, nella terra di Canaan e mi benedisse;	3 And when he had entered to him, he said: “Almighty God appeared to me at Luz, which is in the land of Canaan, and he blessed me.
4 e mi disse: "Ecco, io ti farò fruttare e ti moltiplicherò e ti renderò un'accolta di popoli, e darò questa terra alla tua discendenza, dopo di te, quale possesso perpetuo".	4 And he said: ‘I will increase and multiply you, and I will make you influential among the people. And I will give this land to you, and to your offspring after you, as an everlasting possession.’
5 Sicché ora i tuoi due figli che ti sono nati nella terra d'Egitto, prima che io arrivassi da te in Egitto, sono miei: Efraim e Manasse saranno miei come Ruben e Simeone.	5 Therefore, your two sons, who were born to you in the land of Egypt before I came here to you, will be mine. Ephraim and Manasseh will be treated by me just like Reuben and Simeon.
6 Invece quelli che tu hai generato dopo di loro, saranno tuoi, col nome dei loro fratelli saranno chiamati nella loro eredità.	6 But the remainder, whom you will conceive after them, will be yours, and they will be called by the name of their brothers among their possessions.
7 Quanto a me, mentre io arrivavo da Paddan, Rachele mi morì nella terra di Canaan, durante il viaggio, quando mancava ancora un tratto di strada per arrivare ad Efrata, e l'ho sepolta là, lungo la strada di Efrata, che è Betlemme".	7 As for me, when I came from Mesopotamia, Rachel died in the land of Canaan on the very journey, and it was springtime. 8 Poi Israele vide i figli di Giuseppe e disse: "Chi sono questi?".	8 Then, seeing his sons, he said to him: “Who are these?”
9 Giuseppe rispose a suo padre: "Sono i miei figli che Dio mi ha dato qui". Riprese: "Portameli, di grazia, che io li metta sulle ginocchia".	9 He responded, “They are my sons, whom God gave to me as a gift in this place.” “Bring them to me,” he said, “so that I may bless them.”
10 Ora gli occhi di Israele erano offuscati dalla vecchiaia: non poteva più distinguere. Egli allora li fece avvicinare a lui, che li baciò e li abbracciò.	10 For Israel’s eyes were clouded by reason of his great age, and he was unable to see clearly. And when they were placed up against him, he kissed and embraced them.
11 Israele disse a Giuseppe: "Io non pensavo di vedere più la tua faccia, ed ecco, Dio mi ha dato di vedere anche la tua figliolanza!".	11 And he said to his son: “I have not been cheated out of seeing you. Moreover, God has shown me your offspring.”
12 Allora Giuseppe li ritirò dalle sue ginocchia e si prostrò con la faccia a terra.	12 And when Joseph had taken them from his father’s lap, he reverenced prone on the ground.
13 Poi Giuseppe prese ambedue, Efraim con la sua destra, alla sinistra di Israele, e Manasse con la sua sinistra, alla destra di Israele, e li avvicinò a lui.	13 And he placed Ephraim on his right, that is, towards the left hand of Israel. Yet truly Manasseh was on his left, namely, towards his father’s right hand. And he placed them both up against him.
14 Ma Israele stese la sua mano destra e la pose sul capo di Efraim, che pure era il più giovane, e la sua sinistra sul capo di Manasse, incrociando le braccia, benché Manasse fosse il primogenito.	14 And he, extending his right hand, placed it over the head of Ephraim, the younger brother, but the left hand was on the head of Manasseh, who was the elder, so that his hands were crossed.
15 E così benedisse i figli di Giuseppe e disse: "Dio, davanti al quale camminarono i miei padri Abramo e Isacco, Dio che fu il mio pastore dacché esisto fino a questo dì,	15 And Jacob blessed the sons of Joseph, and he said: “God, in whose sight my fathers Abraham and Isaac walked, God who pastured me from my youth until the present day,
16 l'Angelo che mi ha liberato da ogni male, benedica questi fanciulli! Sopravviva in essi il mio nome e il nome dei padri miei Abramo e Isacco e si moltiplichino in gran numero in mezzo alla terra!".	16 the Angel, who rescues me from all evils: bless these boys. And let my name be invoked over them, and also the names of my fathers, Abraham and Isaac. And may they increase into a multitude across the earth.”
17 Giuseppe vide che suo padre aveva posato la sua destra sul capo di Efraim, e ciò gli spiacque. Prese perciò la mano di suo padre per levarla dal capo di Efraim e posarla sul capo di Manasse,	17 But Joseph, seeing that his father had placed his right hand over the head of Ephraim, took it gravely. And grasping his father’s hand, he tried to lift it from Ephraim’s head and transfer it onto the head of Manasseh.
18 e disse a suo padre: "Non così, padre mio: è questo il primogenito: posa la tua destra sul suo capo!".	18 And he said to his father: “It should not have come to pass this way, father. For this one is the firstborn. Place your right hand over his head.”
19 Ma suo padre ricusò e disse: "Lo so, figlio mio, lo so: anche lui diventerà un popolo, anche lui sarà grande, e tuttavia il suo fratello minore sarà più grande di lui e la sua discendenza diventerà una moltitudine di nazioni".	19 But refusing, he said: “I know, my son, I know. And this one, indeed, will be among the people and will be multiplied. But his younger brother will be greater than he. And his offspring will increase among the nations.”
20 E li benedisse in quel giorno, in questi termini: "Per te Israele benedirà dicendo: Dio ti renda come Efraim e come Manasse!". E così pose Efraim prima di Manasse.	20 And he blessed them at that time, saying: “In you, Israel will be blessed, and it will be said: ‘May God treat you like Ephraim, and like Manasseh.’ ” And he established Ephraim before Manasseh.
21 Poi Israele disse a Giuseppe: "Ecco, io sto per morire, ma Dio sarà con voi e vi farà ritornare alla terra dei vostri padri.	21 And he said to his son Joseph: “See, I am dying, and God will be with you, and he will lead you back to the land of your fathers.
22 Quanto a me, io do a te, in più che ai tuoi fratelli, un dorso di monte, che io tolsi dalle mani degli Amorrei, con la mia spada e il mio arco".	22 I give you one part beyond that of your brothers, which I took from the hand of the Amorite with my sword and my bow.”
