1 - A MOAB. - Così dice il Signore degli eserciti, il Dio d'Israele: «Sventurata Nabo perchè è stata devastata e avvilita; Cariataim è stata presa, la forte si è trovata avvilita e ha tremato.	1 Concerning Moab, thus says the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel: Woe to Nebo, it is laid waste; Kiriathaim is disgraced and captured, Disgraced and overthrown is the stronghold:
2 Non c'è più esultanza in Moab; contro Hesebon hanno congiurato al danno: venite e cancelliamola d'infra le nazioni; e così, caduta nel silenzio, tacerai, e verrà dietro a rincorrerti la spada.	2 Moab's glory is no more. Evil they plan against Heshbon: "Come, let us put an end to her as a people." You, too, Madmen, shall be reduced to silence; behind you stalks the sword.
3 Un urlo rimbombante da Oronaim, devastazione e grande rovina.	3 Listen! a cry from Horonaim of ruin and great destruction!
4 Moab è stata rovinata, fate sentire lo strido ai suoi parvoli.	4 Moab is crushed, their outcry is heard in Zoar.

6 Fuggite e mettetevi in salvo, e siate come i tamarischi nel deserto.	6 "Flee, save your lives, to survive like the wild ass in the desert!"
7 Per ciò che hai riposta la tua fiducia nelle tue opere di difesa e nei tuoi tesori, sarai anche tu presa; e Camos se ne andrà in schiavitù, coi suoi sacerdoti e coi suoi principi insieme.	7 Because you trusted in your works and your treasures, you also shall be captured. Chemosh shall go into exile, his priests and princes with him.
8 E piomberà addosso ad ogni città il predone, nessuna città sfuggirà; e saranno guastate le valli, e le campagne saran messe a soqquadro, perchè il Signore l'ha detto.	8 The destroyer comes upon every city, not a city escapes; Ruined is the valley, wasted the plain, as the LORD has said.
9 Concedete il fiore di Moab affinchè fiorendo esca, e le sue città rimangano incolte e disabitate!	9 Set up a memorial for Moab, for it is an utter wasteland; Its cities are turned into ruins where no one dwells.
10 Maledetto chi eseguisce l'opera di Dio infedelmente, e maledetto chi vieta alla spada il sangue.	10 (Cursed be he who does the LORD'S work remissly, cursed he who holds back his sword from blood.)
11 Moab è stato nella fertilità fin dalla sua giovinezza, fu lasciato posare sulle sue fecce; non è stato travasato da un recipiente ad un altro e non fu esportato; quindi il suo sapore l'ha conservato e il suo profumo non l'ha mutato.	11 Moab has been tranquil from his youth, has rested upon his lees; He was not poured from one flask to another, he went not into exile. Thus he kept his taste, and his scent was not lost.
12 Ma ecco che il tempo viene, dice il Signore, ed io gli manderò gente pratica ad acconciare ed aggiustare recipienti [da vino], e lo aggiusteranno ben bene, vuoteranno i suoi recipienti e manderanno in frantumi tutti i suoi vasi.	12 Hence, the days shall come, says the LORD, when I will send him coopers to turn him over; they shall empty his flasks and break his jars.
13 E Moab, da Camos, raccoglierà confusione, come da Betel, la casa di Israele in cui riponeva la sua confidenza.	13 Chemosh shall disappoint Moab, as Israel was disappointed by Bethel in which they trusted.
14 Come dite: - Noi siamo valorosi, gente agguerrita alla battaglia?-	14 How can you say, "We are heroes, men valiant in war"?
15 E intanto Moab è stato devastato, hanno dato le sue città in pasto al fuoco, il meglio della sua gioventù fu trascinato al macello, dice il re di cui il nome è il Signore degli eserciti.	15 The ravager of Moab and his cities advances, the flower of his youth goes down to be slaughtered, says the King, the LORD of hosts by name.
16 La rovina di Moab è prossima a venire e la sua sciagura gli piomberà addosso molto presto.	16 Near at hand is Moab's ruin, his disaster hastens apace.
17 Consolatelo, voi tutti suoi circonvicini, voi tutti ai quali è familiare il suo nome, dite: - O come fu spezzato lo scettro potente, il bastone famoso.-	17 Mourn for him, all you his neighbors, all you who knew him well! Say: How the strong staff is broken, the glorious rod!
18 Scendi dalla gloria e giaci sull'arsa terra, abitatrice figlia di Dibon, perchè il guastatore di Moab è salito a te e ha smantellato le tue fortificazioni.	18 Come down from glory, sit on the ground, you that dwell in Dibon; Moab's ravager has come up against you, he has ruined your strongholds.
19 Appòstati sul cammino e sta' in vedetta, abitatrice di Aroer; interroga il fuggiasco e chi è scampato, domanda: - Che è accaduto? -	19 Stand by the wayside, watch closely, you that dwell in Aroer; Ask the man who flees, the woman who tries to escape: say to them, "What has happened?"
20 Moab è coperto di confusione, perchè è stato vinto! Urlate e stridete, annunziate sull'Arnon che Moab è stato devastato.	20 Moab is disgraced, yes, destroyed, howl and cry out; Publish it at the Arnon, Moab is ruined!
21 Il giudizio è venuto sulla campestre contrada, su Elon, e su Jasa, e su Mefaat,	21 For judgment has come on the land of the plateau: on Holon, Jahzah, and Mephaath,

27 Perchè anche Israele fu da te preso in derisione, come se fosse stato sorpreso coi ladri; per motivo dunque delle parole che hai dette contro di lui, sarai condotto in esilio.	27 Is Israel a laughingstock to you? Was she caught among thieves, that you shake your head whenever you speak of her?
28 Abbandonate le città e cercate un asilo sulle rocce, o abitanti di Moab; state, come colomba annidata sull'alto orlo del suo cavo.	28 Leave the cities, dwell in the crags, you that dwell in Moab. Be like a dove that nests out of reach on the edge of a chasm.
29 L'orgoglio di Moab lo conosciamo per fama: è orgogliosissimo, la sua alterigia, l'arroganza, la superbia e la presunzione del suo cuore.	29 We have heard of the pride of Moab, pride beyond bounds: His loftiness, his pride, his scorn, his insolence of heart.
30 Io conosco, dice il Signore, la sua iattanza e che il potere non va di pari, e che la sua forza è stata impari allo sforzo.	30 I know, says the LORD, his arrogance; liar in boast, liar in deed.
31 Perciò io striderò sopra Moab, griderò a Moab tutta quanta, alle genti del muro di mattoni, le mie lamentazioni.	31 And so I wail over Moab, over all Moab I cry, over the men of Kir-heres I moan.
32 al pianto di Jazer piangerò per te, o vigneto di Sabama; i tuoi tralci avevano oltrepassato il mare, erano giunti fino al mare di Jazer, sopra la tua raccolta e la tua vendemmia piombò il predone.	32 More than for Jazer I weep over you, vineyard of Sibmah. 33 È stata tolta l'allegria e la letizia dal Carmelo e dalla terra di Moab, ho tolto il vino agli strettoi, il pigiatore d'uva non canterà mai più il ritornello della solita canzone.	33 Joy and jubilation are at an end in the fruit gardens of the land of Moab. 37 Ogni testa sarà scalvata, e ogni barba tagliata, in tutte le mani fasciatura, su tutti i dorsi veste di sacco.	37 Every head has been made bald, every beard shaved; every hand is gashed, and the loins of all are clothed in sackcloth.
38 Sulle terrazze di Moab e per le piazze, tutto pianto: perchè io ho infranto Moab, come un vaso inutile, dice il Signore.	38 On every roof of Moab and in all his squares there is mourning; I have shattered Moab like a pot that no one wants, says the LORD.
39 Com'è stato disfatto e come hanno urlato! Come ha dimesso la cervice Moab ed è stato confuso! E Moab sarà in derisione, in esempio e tutti i suoi circonvicini».	39 How terror seizes Moab, and wailing! How he turns his back in shame! Moab has become a laughingstock and a horror to all his neighbors!
40 Così dice il Signore: «Ecco che spicca il volo come un'aquila e spanderà le sue ali sopra Moab.	40 For thus says the LORD: Behold, like an eagle he soars, spreads his wings over Moab.
41 Cariot è stata presa, le sue fortezze espugnate, e il cuore dei prodi di Moab sarà in quel giorno come il cuore d'una donna sopra parto!	41 Cities are taken, strongholds seized: On that day the hearts of Moab's heroes are like the heart of a woman in travail.
42 E Moab cesserà d'essere un popolo, perchè ha fatto il superbo contro il Signore!	42 Moab shall be destroyed, no more a people, because he boasted against the LORD.
43 Lo spavento e la fossa ed il laccio ti sovrastano, o abitatore di Moab, dice il Signore.	43 Terror, pit, and trap be upon you, people of Moab, says the LORD.
44 Chi sfuggirà davanti allo spavento cascherà nella fossa, e chi sfuggirà dalla fossa incapperà nel laccio, perchè farò venire sopra Moab l'anno della loro visita, dice il Signore.	44 He who flees from the terror falls into the pit; He who climbs from the pit is caught in the trap; For I will bring these things upon Moab in the year of their punishment, says the LORD.
45 All'ombra di Hesebon si fermarono quei che eran fuggiti al laccio, perchè un fuoco uscì da Hesebone una fiamma da Seone divorerà l'estremo lembo di Moabe l'ultima vetta dei figli del tumulto.	45 In Heshbon's shadow stop short the exhausted refugees; For fire breaks forth from Heshbon, and a blaze from the house of Sihon: It consumes the brow of Moab, the skull of the noisemakers.
46 Guai a te, o Moab, sei perduto, o popolo di Camos; perchè sono stati portati via i tuoi figlie le tue figlie in ischiavitù.	46 Woe to you, O Moab, you are ruined, O people of Chemosh! Your sons are taken into exile, your daughters into captivity.
47 Ma farò ritornare gli esiliati di Moab dalla schiavitù in su gli ultimi giorni», dice il Signore. Fin qui il giudizio contro Moab.	47 But I will change the lot of Moab in the days to come, says the LORD. Thus far the judgment on Moab.
