And so I beg you, first of all, to make supplications, prayers, petitions, and thanksgivings for all men,1 I urge then, first of al that petitions, prayers, intercessions and thanksgiving should be offered foreveryone,
for kings, and for all who are in high places, so that we may lead a quiet and tranquil life in all piety and chastity.2 for kings and others in authority, so that we may be able to live peaceful and quiet lives with al devotionand propriety.
For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Savior,3 To do this is right, and acceptable to God our Saviour:
who wants all men to be saved and to arrive at an acknowledgment of the truth.4 he wants everyone to be saved and reach full knowledge of the truth.
For there is one God, and one mediator of God and of men, the man Christ Jesus,5 For there is only one God, and there is only one mediator between God and humanity, himself a humanbeing, Christ Jesus,
who gave himself as a redemption for all, as a testimony in its proper time.6 who offered himself as a ransom for al . This was the witness given at the appointed time,
Of this testimony, I have been appointed a preacher and an Apostle, (I speak the truth, I do not lie) as a teacher of the Gentiles, in faith and in truth.7 of which I was appointed herald and apostle and -- I am telling the truth and no lie -- a teacher of thegentiles in faith and truth.
Therefore, I want men to pray in every place, lifting up pure hands, without anger or dissension.8 In every place, then, I want the men to lift their hands up reverently in prayer, with no anger or argument.
Similarly also, women should be dressed fittingly, adorning themselves with compunction and restraint, and not with plaited hair, nor gold, nor pearls, nor costly attire,9 Similarly, women are to wear suitable clothes and to be dressed quietly and modestly, without braidedhair or gold and jewellery or expensive clothes;
but in a manner proper for women who are professing piety by means of good works.10 their adornment is to do the good works that are proper for women who claim to be religious.
Let a woman learn in silence with all subjection.11 During instruction, a woman should be quiet and respectful.
For I do not permit a woman to teach, nor to be in authority over a man, but to be in silence.12 I give no permission for a woman to teach or to have authority over a man. A woman ought to be quiet,
For Adam was formed first, then Eve.13 because Adam was formed first and Eve afterwards,
And Adam was not seduced, but the woman, having been seduced, was in transgression.14 and it was not Adam who was led astray but the woman who was led astray and fell into sin.
Yet she will be saved by bearing children, if she has continued in faith and love, and in sanctification accompanied by self-restraint.15 Nevertheless, she will be saved by child-bearing, provided she lives a sensible life and is constant infaith and love and holiness.
