Deuteronomy 8

1 “All the commandments which I am entrusting to you this day, take care to observe them diligently, so that you may live and be multiplied, and so that, upon entering, you may possess the land, about which the Lord swore to your fathers.	1 Abbiate cura di osservare tutti i comandamenti che oggi io ti prescrivo, affinchè possiate vivere e moltiplicarvi, ed entrare in possesso della terra giurata dal Signore ai vostri padri.
2 And you shall remember the entire journey along which the Lord your God led you, for forty years through the desert, to afflict you, and to test you, and to make known the things that were turning in your soul, whether or not you would keep his commandments.	2 Ricordati di tutto il cammino per il quale il Signore ti ha condotto quarantanni nel deserto, per affliggerti e metterti alla prova, per sapere quello che avevi in cuore, se avresti osservato o no i suoi comandamenti.
3 He afflicted you with need, and he gave you Manna as your food, which neither you nor your fathers knew, so as to reveal to you that it is not by bread alone that man lives, but by every word that goes forth from the mouth of God.	3 Dopo averti afflitto colla fame, ti diede per cibo la manna, mai conosciuta nè da te nè dai tuoi padri, per insegnarti che l'uomo non vive di solo pane, ma di ogni parola che procede dalla bocca di Dio.
4 Your garment, with which you were covered, has by no means decayed due to age, and your foot has not been worn down, even to this fortieth year,	4 La tua veste non t'è invecchiata nè ti si è logorata addosso, e il tuo piede non è rimasto mai scalfito, e siamo già al quarantesimo anno.
5 so that you would recognize in your heart that, just as a man educates his son, so has the Lord your God educated you.	5 Riconosci adunque in cuor tuo, che, come un uomo istruisce il suo figlio, così il Signore Dio tuo ti ha istruito;
6 So may you keep the commandments of the Lord your God, and walk in his ways, and fear him.	6 osserva i comandamenti del Signore Dio tuo, cammina nelle sue vie e temilo,
7 For the Lord your God will lead you into a good land: a land of brooks and waters and fountains, in which deep rivers burst forth from its plains and mountains,	7 perchè il Signore Dio tuo t'introdurrà in un'ottima terra, terra di rivi, di acque e di fontane, dove e nei piani e nei monti zampillano sorgenti di fiumi:
8 a land of crops, barley, and vineyards, in which fig and pomegranate and olive trees spring up, a land of oil and honey.	8 ferra da grano, da orzo e da viti, dove prosperano i fichi, i melagrani e gli uliveti: terra di olio e di miele,
9 In that place, without any need, you shall eat your bread and enjoy an abundance of all things: where the stones are like iron, and where ore for brass is dug out of its mountains.	9 dove mangerai il tuo pane a volontà, e godrai abbondanza d'ogni cosa: terra dove le pietre sono ferro ed i cui monti danno il rame,
10 So then, when you have eaten and been satisfied, you should bless the Lord your God for the excellent land which he has given to you.	10 affìnchè, quando avrai mangiato e sarai satollo, tu renda grazie al Signore Dio tuo dell'ottima terra che ti ha dato.
11 Be observant and cautious, lest at sometime you may forget the Lord your God, and neglect his commandments, as well as the judgments and ceremonies, which I instruct to you this day.	11 Guardati adunque bene dal dimenticarti del Signore Dio tuo, dal trascurare i suoi comandamenti, le sue ordinazioni e le sue cerimonie che oggi ti prescrivo;
12 Otherwise, after you have eaten and been satisfied, and have built beautiful houses and have lived in them,	12 onde non avvenga che, dopo aver mangiato a sazietà, dopo avere edificato ed abitato di belle case,
13 and have obtained herds of oxen, and flocks of sheep, and a plentitude of gold and silver and all things,	13 dopo aver avuto mandre di buoi e greggi di pecore e abbondanza d'oro, d'argento e d'ogni cosa,
14 your heart might be lifted up, and you might not remember the Lord your God, who led you away from the land of Egypt, from the house of servitude,	14 il tuo cuore s'insuperbisca e dimentichi il Signore Dio tuo che ti trasse dalla terra d'Egitto, dalla casa di schiavitù,
15 and who was your leader in the great and terrible wilderness, in which there was the serpent with a burning breath, and the scorpion, and the snake of thirst, and no waters at all. He led streams out of the hardest rock,	15 che fu tua guida nel grande e terribile deserto pieno di serpenti dal fiato ardente, di scorpioni, di dipsadi, e senz'acqua: egli fece sgorgare dei rivi dalla rupe durissima;
16 and he nourished you in the wilderness with Manna, which your fathers had not known. And after he had afflicted and tested you, in the very end, he took pity on you.	16 Egli nel deserto ti cibò colla manna sconosciuta ai tuoi padri, egli, dopo averti afflitto e provato, ha avuto finalmente misericordia di te,
17 Otherwise, you might say in your heart: ‘My own strength, and the power of my own hand, have brought forth all these things for me.’	17 affinchè, non potendo dire nel tuo cuore: La mia forza ed il vigore del mio braccio m'hanno procurato tutte queste cose,
18 But remember the Lord your God, that he himself has provided you with strength, so that he may fulfill his covenant, about which he swore to your fathers, just as the present day reveals.	18 ti ricordassi del Signore Dio tuo che t'ha dato le forze, per adempire il patto giurato ai tuoi padri, come fa oggi.
19 But if you forget the Lord your God, so that you follow foreign gods, and serve and adore them: behold, I now foretell to you that you shall utterly perish.	19 Ma se tu, dimenticando il Signore Dio tuo, andrai dietro agli dèi stranieri, rendendo loro culto e adorandoli, te lo predico ora, sarai sterminato.
20 Just like the nations, which the Lord destroyed upon your arrival, so shall you also perish, if you have been disobedient to the voice of the Lord your God.”	20 Come le nazioni che il Signore ha distrutte alla tua venuta, così anche voi perirete, se non darete ascolto alla voce del Signore Dio vostro.
