The beginning of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, the Son of God.1 Comienzo del Evangelio de Jesucristo, Hijo de Dios.
As it has been written by the prophet Isaiah: “Behold, I send my Angel before your face, who shall prepare your way before you.2 Conforme está escrito en Isaías el profeta: Mira, envío mi mensajero delante de ti, el que ha de preparar tu camino.
The voice of one crying out in the desert: Prepare the way of the Lord; make straight his paths.”3 Voz del que clama en el desierto: Preparad el camino del Señor, enderezad sus sendas,
John was in the desert, baptizing and preaching a baptism of repentance, as a remission of sins.4 apareció Juan bautizando en el desierto, proclamando un bautismo de conversión para perdón de los pecados.
And there went out to him all the region of Judea and all those of Jerusalem, and they were baptized by him in the river Jordan, confessing their sins.5 Acudía a él gente de toda la región de Judea y todos los de Jerusalén, y eran bautizados por él en el río Jordán, confesando sus pecados.
And John was clothed with camel’s hair and with a leather belt around his waist. And he ate locusts and wild honey.6 Juan llevaba un vestido de pie de camello; y se alimentaba de langostas y miel silvestre.
And he preached, saying: “A stronger one comes after me. I am not worthy to reach down and loosen the laces of his shoes.7 Y proclamaba: «Detrás de mí viene el que es más fuerte que yo; y no soy digno de desatarle, inclinándome, la correa de sus sandalias.
I have baptized you with water. Yet truly, he will baptize you with the Holy Spirit.”8 Yo os he bautizado con agua, pero él os bautizará con Espíritu Santo».
And it happened that, in those days, Jesus arrived from Nazareth of Galilee. And he was baptized by John in the Jordan.9 Y sucedió que por aquellos días vino Jesús desde Nazaret de Galilea, y fue bautizado por Juan en el Jordán.
And immediately, upon ascending from the water, he saw the heavens opened and the Spirit, like a dove, descending, and remaining with him.10 En cuanto salió del agua vio que los cielos se rasgaban y que el Espíritu, en forma de paloma, bajaba a él.
And there was a voice from heaven: “You are my beloved Son; in you I am well pleased.”11 Y se oyó una voz que venía de los cielos: «Tú eres mi Hijo amado, en ti me complazco».
And immediately the Spirit prompted him into the desert.12 A continuación, el Espíritu le empuja al desierto,
And he was in the desert for forty days and forty nights. And he was tempted by Satan. And he was with the wild animals, and the Angels ministered to him.13 y permaneció en el desierto cuarenta días, siendo tentado por Satanás. Estaba entre los animales del campo y los ángeles le servían.
Then, after John was handed over, Jesus went into Galilee, preaching the Gospel of the kingdom of God,14 Después que Juan fue entregado, marchó Jesús a Galilea; y proclamaba la Buena Nueva de Dios:
and saying: “For the time has been fulfilled and the kingdom of God has drawn near. Repent and believe in the Gospel.”15 «El tiempo se ha cumplido y el Reino de Dios está cerca; convertíos y creed en la Buena Nueva».
And passing by the shore of the Sea of Galilee, he saw Simon and his brother Andrew, casting nets into the sea, for they were fishermen.16 Bordeando el mar de Galilea, vio a Simón y Andrés, el hermano de Simón, largando las redes en el mar, pues eran pescadores.
And Jesus said to them, “Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men.”17 Jesús les dijo: «Venid conmigo, y os haré llegar a ser pescadores de hombres».
And at once abandoning their nets, they followed him.18 Al instante, dejando las redes, le siguieron.
And continuing on a little ways from there, he saw James of Zebedee and his brother John, and they were mending their nets in a boat.19 Caminando un poco más adelante, vio a Santiago, el de Zebedeo, y a su hermano Juan; estaban también en la barca arreglando las redes;
And immediately he called them. And leaving behind their father Zebedee in the boat with his hired hands, they followed him.20 y al instante los llamó. Y ellos, dejando a su padre Zebedeo en la barca con los jornaleros, se fueron tras él.
And they entered into Capernaum. And entering into the synagogue promptly on the Sabbaths, he taught them.21 Llegan a Cafarnaúm. Al llegar el sábado entró en la sinagoga y se puso a enseñar.
And they were astonished over his doctrine. For he was teaching them as one who has authority, and not like the scribes.22 Y quedaban asombrados de su doctrina, porque les enseñaba como quien tiene autoridad, y no como los escribas.
And in their synagogue, there was a man with an unclean spirit; and he cried out,23 Había precisamente en su sinagoga un hombre poseído por un espíritu inmundo, que se puso a gritar:
saying: “What are we to you, Jesus of Nazareth? Have you come to destroy us? I know who you are: the Holy One of God.”24 «¿Qué tenemos nosotros contigo, Jesús de Nazaret? ¿Has venido a destruirnos? Sé quién eres tú: el Santo de Dios».
And Jesus admonished him, saying, “Be silent, and depart from the man.”25 Jesús, entonces, le conminó diciendo: «Cállate y sal de él».
And the unclean spirit, convulsing him and crying out with a loud voice, departed from him.26 Y agitándole violentamente el espíritu inmundo, dio un fuerte grito y salió de él.
And they were all so amazed that they inquired among themselves, saying: “What is this? And what is this new doctrine? For with authority he commands even the unclean spirits, and they obey him.”27 Todos quedaron pasmados de tal manera que se preguntaban unos a otros: «¿Qué es esto?
And soon after departing from the synagogue, they went into the house of Simon and Andrew, with James and John.29 Cuando salió de la sinagoga se fue con Santiago y Juan a casa de Simón y Andrés.
But the mother-in-law of Simon lay ill with a fever. And at once they told him about her.30 La suegra de Simón estaba en cama con fiebre; y le hablan de ella.
And drawing near to her, he raised her up, taking her by the hand. And immediately the fever left her, and she ministered to them.31 Se acercó y, tomándola de la mano, la levantó. La fiebre la dejó y ella se puso a servirles.
Then, when evening arrived, after the sun had set, they brought to him all who had maladies and those who had demons.32 Al atardecer, a la puesta del sol, le trajeron todos los enfermos y endemoniados;
And the entire city was gathered together at the door.33 la ciudad entera estaba agolpada a la puerta.
And he healed many who were troubled with various illnesses. And he cast out many demons, but he would not permit them to speak, because they knew him.34 Jesús curó a muchos que se encontraban mal de diversas enfermedades y expulsó muchos demonios. Y no dejaba hablar a los demonios, pues le conocían.
And rising up very early, departing, he went out to a deserted place, and there he prayed.35 De madrugada, cuando todavía estaba muy oscuro, se levantó, salió y fue a un lugar solitario y allí se puso a hacer oración.
And Simon, and those who were with him, followed after him.36 Simón y sus compañeros fueron en su busca;
And when they had found him, they said to him, “For everyone is seeking you.”37 al encontrarle, le dicen: «Todos te buscan».
And he said to them: “Let us go into the neighboring towns and cities, so that I may preach there also. Indeed, it was for this reason that I came.”38 El les dice: «Vayamos a otra parte, a los pueblos vecinos, para que también allí predique; pues para eso he salido».
And he was preaching in their synagogues and throughout all of Galilee, and casting out demons.39 Y recorrió toda Galilea, predicando en sus sinagogas y expulsando los demonios.
And a leper came to him, begging him. And kneeling down, he said to him, “If you are willing, you are able to cleanse me.”40 Se le acerca un leproso suplicándole y, puesto de rodillas, le dice: «Si quieres, puedes limpiarme».
Then Jesus, taking pity on him, reached out his hand. And touching him, he said to him: “I am willing. Be cleansed.”41 Compadecido de él, extendió su mano, le tocó y le dijo: «Quiero; queda limpio».
And after he had spoken, immediately the leprosy departed from him, and he was cleansed.42 Y al instante, le desapareció la lepra y quedó limpio.
And he admonished him, and he promptly sent him away.43 Le despidió al instante prohibiéndole severamente:
And he said to him: “See to it that you tell no one. But go and show yourself to the high priest, and offer for your cleansing that which Moses instructed, as a testimony for them.”44 «Mira, no digas nada a nadie, sino vete, muéstrate al sacerdote y haz por tu purificación la ofrenda que prescribió Moisés para que les sirva de testimonio».
But having departed, he began to preach and to disseminate the word, so that he was no longer able to openly enter a city, but had to remain outside, in deserted places. And they were gathered to him from every direction.45 Pero él, así que se fue, se puso a pregonar con entusiasmo y a divulgar la noticia, de modo que ya no podía Jesús presentarse en público en ninguna ciudad, sino que se quedaba a las afueras, en lugares solitarios. Y acudían a él de todas partes.
