1 Then, when morning arrived, all the leaders of the priests and the elders of the people took counsel against Jesus, so that they might deliver him to death.	1 Au matin il y eut un conseil général des chefs des prêtres et des Anciens du peuple pour voir les moyens de mettre Jésus à mort.
2 And they led him, bound, and handed him over to Pontius Pilate, the procurator.	2 Après l’avoir lié, ils le conduisirent chez Pilate, le gouverneur, pour le lui livrer.
3 Then Judas, who betrayed him, seeing that he had been condemned, regretting his conduct, brought back the thirty pieces of silver to the leaders of the priests and the elders,	3 Lorsque Judas, qui avait trahi Jésus, apprit sa condamnation, il fut pris de remords; il vint rendre les trente pièces d’argent aux chefs des prêtres et aux Anciens.
4 saying, “I have sinned in betraying just blood.” But they said to him: “What is that to us? See to it yourself.”	4 Judas leur dit: "J’ai péché, j’ai fait mourir un innocent.” Eux lui répondirent: "Qu’est-ce que cela nous fait? C’est ton problème!”
5 And throwing down the pieces of silver in the temple, he departed. And going out, he hanged himself with a snare.	5 Alors il jeta les pièces d’argent en direction du Sanctuaire, il se retira et alla se pendre.
6 But the leaders of the priests, having taken up the pieces of silver, said, “It is not lawful to put them into the temple offerings, because it is the price of blood.”	6 Les chefs des prêtres ramassèrent les pièces, mais ils dirent: "Il n’est pas permis de les verser au trésor, car c’est le prix du sang versé.”
7 Then, having taken counsel, they bought the potter’s field with it, as a burying place for sojourners.	7 Aussi, après en avoir discuté, ils achetèrent avec cet argent le Champ du Potier pour y enterrer les étrangers.
8 For this reason, that field is called Haceldama, that is, ‘The Field of Blood,’ even to this very day.	8 C’est la raison pour laquelle ce terrain s’est appelé jusqu’à maintenant le Champ du Sang.
9 Then what was spoken by the prophet Jeremiah was fulfilled, saying, “And they took the thirty pieces of silver, the price of the one being appraised, whom they appraised before the sons of Israel,	9 De cette façon s’accomplit une parole du prophète Jérémie: Ils ont pris les trente pièces d’argent, le prix de celui qu’on avait mis à prix, le prix fixé par les fils d’Israël,
10 and they gave it for the potter’s field, just as the Lord appointed to me.”	10 et ils l’ont donné pour le champ du potier, comme le Seigneur me l’a demandé.
11 Now Jesus stood before the procurator, and the procurator questioned him, saying, “You are the king of the Jews?” Jesus said to him, “You are saying so.”	11 Jésus fut amené devant le gouverneur, et le gouverneur l’interrogea. Il lui dit: "Es-tu bien le roi des Juifs?” Jésus répondit: "C’est toi qui le dis.”
12 And when he was accused by the leaders of the priests and the elders, he responded nothing.	12 Les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens du peuple firent alors entendre leurs accusations, mais il ne répondit rien.
13 Then Pilate said to him, “Do you not hear how much testimony they speak against you?”	13 Pilate lui demanda: "Tu n’entends pas toutes ces accusations contre toi?”
14 And he did not respond any word to him, so that the procurator wondered greatly.	14 Mais Jésus ne répondit absolument rien, de sorte que le gouverneur était fort étonné.
15 Now on the solemn day, the procurator was accustomed to release to the people one prisoner, whomever they wished.	15 Chaque année, pour la Fête, c’était la coutume que le gouverneur relâche un prisonnier, celui que le peuple lui réclamait.
16 And at that time, he had a notorious prisoner, who was called Barabbas.	16 Or ils avaient à ce moment un prisonnier fameux, le nommé Barabbas.
17 Therefore, having been gathered together, Pilate said to them, “Who is it that you want me to release to you: Barabbas, or Jesus, who is called Christ?”	17 Comme ils étaient là rassemblés, Pilate leur dit: "Qui voulez-vous que je vous relâche, Barabbas, ou Jésus qu’on appelle le Messie?”
18 For he knew that it was out of envy they had handed him over.	18 Car Pilate savait bien qu’on lui avait livré Jésus pour des questions de rivalité.
19 But as he was sitting in the place for the tribunal, his wife sent to him, saying: “It is nothing to you, and he is just. For I have experienced many things today through a vision for his sake.”	19 Comme Pilate siégeait à son tribunal, sa femme lui fit dire: "Ne lui fais rien; c’est un homme droit et j’ai eu cette nuit à cause de lui un rêve qui m’a fait beaucoup souffrir.”
20 But the leaders of the priests and the elders persuaded the people, so that they would ask for Barabbas, and so that Jesus would perish.	20 Pour leur part, les chefs des prêtres et les Anciens surent amener la foule à réclamer Barabbas et à faire périr Jésus.
21 Then, in response, the procurator said to them, “Which of the two do you want to be released to you?” But they said to him, “Barabbas.”	21 Aussi, quand Pilate leur demanda: "Lequel des deux voulez-vous que je vous relâche?” ils répondirent: "Barabbas!”
22 Pilate said to them, “Then what shall I do about Jesus, who is called Christ?” They all said, “Let him be crucified.”	22 Pilate leur dit: "Et que dois-je faire de Jésus qu’on appelle le Messie?” Tous répondirent: "Qu’il soit mis en croix!”
23 The procurator said to them, “But what evil has he done?” But they cried out all the more, saying, “Let him be crucified.”	23 Il demanda: "Qu’a-t-il fait de mal?” Mais ils ne firent que crier plus fort: "Qu’il soit mis en croix!”
24 Then Pilate, seeing that he was able to accomplish nothing, but that a greater tumult was occurring, taking water, washed his hands in the sight of the people, saying: “I am innocent of the blood of this just man. See to it yourselves.”	24 Pilate voyait qu’il ne gagnait rien et que l’agitation allait en augmentant; il se fit apporter de l’eau et se lava les mains devant la foule en disant: "Je ne suis pas responsable de ce sang, vous en répondrez!”
25 And the entire people responded by saying, “May his blood be upon us and upon our children.”	25 Et tout le peuple dit: "Que son sang retombe sur nous et sur nos enfants!”
26 Then he released Barabbas to them. But Jesus, having been scourged, he handed over to them, so that he would be crucified.	26 Donc Pilate leur libère Barabbas et il fait flageller Jésus avant de le remettre à ceux qui vont le crucifier.
27 Then the soldiers of the procurator, taking Jesus up to the praetorium, gathered the entire cohort around him.	27 Les soldats du gouverneur prennent Jésus avec eux dans la cour de garde, et ils appellent autour de lui tout le bataillon.
28 And stripping him, they put a scarlet cloak around him.	28 Ils lui enlèvent ses habits et le couvrent d’un manteau rouge de l’armée,
29 And plaiting a crown of thorns, they placed it on his head, with a reed in his right hand. And genuflecting before him, they mocked him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews.”	29 puis ils tressent avec des épines une couronne qu’ils lui mettent sur la tête, avec un roseau dans la main droite. Ensuite ils se mettent à genoux devant lui et ils le frappent en disant: "Salut, roi des Juifs!”
30 And spitting on him, they took the reed and struck his head.	30 Ils lui crachent dessus, prennent le roseau et frappent sur sa tête.
31 And after they had mocked him, they stripped him of the cloak, and clothed him with his own garments, and they led him away to crucify him.	31 Lorsqu’on eut fini de se moquer de lui, on lui enleva le manteau de soldat et on lui remit ses vêtements. Puis on l’emmena pour le crucifier.
32 But as they were going out, they came upon a man of Cyrene, named Simon, whom they compelled to take up his cross.	32 Juste en sortant, ils trouvèrent un certain Simon, qui était de Cyrène, et ils l’obligèrent à porter sa croix.
33 And they arrived at the place which is called Golgotha, which is the place of Calvary.	33 Ils vinrent ainsi à l’endroit qu’on appelle Golgotha, c’est-à-dire le Crâne.
34 And they gave him wine to drink, mixed with gall. And when he had tasted it, he refused to drink it.	34 Là ils lui donnèrent à boire du vin mêlé de fiel. Jésus le goûta mais ne voulut pas en boire.
35 Then, after they had crucified him, they divided his garments, casting lots, in order to fulfill what was spoken by the prophet, saying: “They divided my garments among them, and over my vestment they cast lots.”	35 Alors ils le mirent en croix, puis ils tirèrent au sort pour se partager ses vêtements
36 And sitting down, they observed him.	36 et ils restèrent là assis pour le garder.
37 And they set his accusation above his head, written as: THIS IS JESUS, KING OF THE JEWS.	37 Au-dessus de sa tête, on avait écrit le motif de sa condamnation: “C’est Jésus, le roi des Juifs!”
38 Then two robbers were crucified with him: one on the right and one on the left.	38 On avait aussi crucifié avec lui deux bandits, l’un à sa droite et l’autre à sa gauche.
39 But those passing by blasphemed him, shaking their heads,	39 Ceux qui passaient l’insultaient. Ils hochaient la tête
40 and saying: “Ah, so you would destroy the temple of God and in three days rebuild it! Save your own self. If you are the Son of God, descend from the cross.”	40 et disaient: "C’est toi qui détruis le Temple et le rebâtis en trois jours! Sauve-toi donc, puisque tu es fils de Dieu, descends de ta croix!”
41 And similarly, the leaders of the priests, with the scribes and the elders, mocking him, said:	41 Les chefs des prêtres le ridiculisaient de la même façon, tout comme les maîtres de la Loi et les Anciens. Ils disaient:
42 “He saved others; he cannot save himself. If he is the King of Israel, let him descend now from the cross, and we will believe in him.	42 "Il a sauvé les autres, mais il ne se sauvera pas lui-même! Voilà bien le roi d’Israël! Qu’il descende maintenant de la croix et nous croirons en lui.
43 He trusted in God; so now, let God free him, if he wills him. For he said, ‘I am the Son of God.’ ”	43 Il a mis sa confiance en Dieu, que Dieu maintenant le délivre s’il l’aime. Car il disait: Je suis le fils de Dieu.”
44 Then, the robbers who were crucified with him also reproached him with the very same thing.	44 Et de la même façon les bandits crucifiés avec lui l’insultaient.
45 Now from the sixth hour, there was darkness over the entire earth, even until the ninth hour.	45 Tout le pays fut dans l’obscurité depuis midi jusqu’au milieu de l’après-midi.
46 And about the ninth hour, Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying: “Eli, Eli, lamma sabacthani?” that is, “My God, My God, why have you forsaken me?”	46 On était à la neuvième heure du jour lorsque Jésus s’écria d’une voix forte: "Éli, Éli, lema sabacthani?”; ce qui veut dire: “Mon Dieu, mon Dieu, pourquoi m’as-tu abandonné?”
47 Then certain ones who were standing and listening there said, “This man calls upon Elijah.”	47 En l’entendant, plusieurs de ceux qui étaient présents firent cette réflexion: "Le voici qui appelle Élie!”
48 And one of them, running quickly, took a sponge and filled it with vinegar, and he set it on a reed and he gave it to him to drink.	48 L’un d’eux courut prendre une éponge, la trempa dans du vin acidulé et l’attacha à un roseau pour le faire boire.
49 Yet truly, the others said, “Wait. Let us see whether Elijah will come to free him.”	49 Mais les autres lui disaient: "Laisse donc, voyons si Élie vient le sauver.”
50 Then Jesus, crying out again with a loud voice, gave up his life.	50 De nouveau Jésus poussa un grand cri et il rendit l’esprit.
51 And behold, the veil of the temple was torn into two parts, from top to bottom. And the earth was shaken, and the rocks were split apart.	51 Et voici que le voile du sanctuaire se déchire en deux de haut en bas, la terre tremble, les pierres se fendent,
52 And the tombs were opened. And many bodies of the saints, which had been sleeping, arose.	52 les tombeaux s’ouvrent, et bien des corps se relèvent, des personnes saintes qui reposaient en paix.
53 And going out from the tombs, after his resurrection, they went into the holy city, and they appeared to many.	53 Oui, après sa Résurrection elles sortirent des tombeaux, entrèrent dans la ville sainte et apparurent à plusieurs personnes.
54 Now the centurion and those who were with him, guarding Jesus, having seen the earthquake and the things that were done, were very fearful, saying: “Truly, this was the Son of God.”	54 À la suite de ce tremblement de terre, le capitaine et les autres qui gardaient Jésus avec lui furent remplis de crainte, voyant tout ce qui arrivait. Ils disaient: "Vraiment celui-ci était fils de Dieu.”
55 And in that place, there were many women, at a distance, who had followed Jesus from Galilee, ministering to him.	55 Un groupe de femmes se trouvait sur place à quelque distance. Elles avaient accompagné Jésus depuis la Galilée pour le servir et elles suivaient tout;
56 Among these were Mary Magdalene and Mary the mother of James and Joseph, and the mother of the sons of Zebedee.	56 parmi elles se trouvaient Marie de Magdala, Marie mère de Jacques et Joseph, et la mère des fils de Zébédée.
57 Then, when evening had arrived, a certain wealthy man from Arimathea, named Joseph, arrived, who himself was also a disciple of Jesus.	57 Le soir venu, un certain Joseph arriva. C’était un homme riche; il était d’Arimathie et lui aussi disciple de Jésus.
58 This man approached Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus. Then Pilate ordered the body to be released.	58 Il s’était adressé à Pilate pour lui réclamer le corps de Jésus et Pilate avait donné l’ordre de le lui remettre.
59 And Joseph, taking the body, wrapped it in a clean finely-woven linen cloth,	59 Joseph prit le corps et l’enveloppa dans un linceul propre.
60 and he placed it in his own new tomb, which he had hewn out of a rock. And he rolled a great stone to the door of the tomb, and he went away.	60 Il le déposa dans un tombeau neuf qu’il s’était fait creuser dans le roc, et il fit rouler une grosse pierre devant l’entrée de la tombe. Puis il s’en alla.
61 Now Mary Magdalene and the other Mary were there, sitting opposite the sepulcher.	61 Mais Marie de Magdala et l’autre Marie restaient là assises en face de la tombe.
62 Then the next day, which is after the Preparation day, the leaders of the priests and the Pharisees went to Pilate together,	62 Le lendemain - c’était le jour après la Préparation - les chefs des prêtres et les Pharisiens allèrent ensemble trouver Pilate
63 saying: “Lord, we have remembered that that this seducer said, while he was still alive, ‘After three days, I will rise again.’	63 pour lui dire: "Seigneur, nous nous sommes rappelés que ce menteur a dit quand il vivait: Je ressusciterai le troisième jour.
64 Therefore, order the sepulcher to be guarded until the third day, lest perhaps his disciples may come and steal him, and say to the people, ‘He has risen from the dead.’ And this last error would be worse than the first.”	64 Donne donc l’ordre de faire surveiller la tombe jusqu’au troisième jour. Il ne faudrait pas que ses disciples viennent le faire disparaître et disent ensuite au peuple: Il s’est relevé d’entre les morts. Cette seconde fraude serait pire que la première.”
65 Pilate said to them: “You have a guard. Go, guard it as you know how.”	65 Pilate leur répondit: "Vous avez une garde; allez et faites garder comme vous le jugez bon.”
66 Then, going out, they secured the sepulcher with guards, sealing the stone.	66 Ils se chargèrent donc de faire garder la tombe avec des scellés sur la pierre et, devant, un piquet de garde.
