The burden that Habakkuk the prophet saw.1 Oráculo que tuvo en visión el profeta Habacuc.
How long, O Lord, shall I cry out, and you will not heed? Shall I shout to you while suffering violence, and you will not save?2 ¿Hasta cuándo, Yahveh, pediré auxilio, sin que tú escuches, clamaré a ti: «¡Violencia!» sin que tú salves?
Why have you revealed to me iniquity and hardship, to see plunder and injustice opposite me? And there has been judgment, but the opposition is more powerful.3 ¿Por qué me haces ver la iniquidad, y tú miras la opresión? ¡Ante mí rapiña y violencia, querella hay y discordia se suscita!
Because of this, the law has been torn apart, and judgment does not persevere to its conclusion. For the impious prevail against the just. Because of this, a perverse judgment is issued.4 Por eso la ley se desvirtúa, y no aparece el juicio. ¡Sí, el impío asedia al justo, por eso aparece el juicio pervertido!
Gaze among the nations, and see. Admire, and be astounded. For a work has been done in your days, which no one will believe when it is told.5 Mirad a las gentes, contemplad, quedad estupefactos, atónitos: voy a hacer yo una obra en vuestros días que no creeríais si se os contara.
For behold, I will raise up the Chaldeans, a bitter and swift people, marching across the width of the earth, to possess tabernacles not their own.6 Pues he aquí que yo suscito a los caldeos, pueblo acerbo y fogoso, que recorre las anchuras de la tierra, para apoderarse de moradas ajenas.
It is dreadful and terrible. From themselves, judgment and their burden will issue.7 Espantoso es y terrible; de él solo salen su juicio y su grandeza;
Their horses are more nimble than leopards and swifter than wolves in the evening; their horsemen will spread out. And then their horsemen will approach from far away; they will fly like the eagle, hurrying to devour.8 más raudos son que leopardos sus caballos, más agudos que lobos de la tarde; sus jinetes galopan, vienen de lejos sus jinetes, vuelan como águila que se precipita a devorar.
They will all approach towards the prey; their face is like a burning wind. And they will gather captives together like sand.9 Llegan todos para hacer violencia, el ardor de sus rostros, como un viento del este, amontona cautivos como arena.
And concerning kings, he will triumph, and sovereign rulers will be his laughingstock, and he will laugh over every fortress, and he will transport a rampart and seize it.10 Y él se burla de los reyes, los soberanos le sirven de irrisión; se ríe de toda fortaleza, levanta un terraplén y la toma.
Then his spirit will be altered, and he will cross over and fall. Such is his strength from his god.11 Luego se cambia el viento y pasa, y él aparece culpable por hacer de su fuerza su dios.
Have you not existed from the beginning, Lord my God, my holy one, and so we shall not die? Lord, you have stationed him for judgment, and you have establish that his strength will be swept away.12 ¿No eres tú desde antiguo, Yahveh, mi Dios, mi santo? ¡Tú no mueres! ¡Para juicio le pusiste tú, Yahveh, oh Roca, para castigar le estableciste!
Your eyes are pure, you do not behold evil, and you cannot look towards iniquity. Why do you look upon the agents of iniquity, and remain silent, while the impious is devouring one who is more just than himself?13 Muy limpio eres de ojos para mirar el mal, ver la opresión no puedes. ¿Por qué ves a los traidores y callas cuando el impío traga al que es más justo que él?
And you will make men like the fish of the sea and like the creeping things that have no ruler.14 Tú tratas a los hombres como a peces del mar, como a reptiles que no tienen amo.
He lifted up everything with his hook. He drew them in with his dragnet, and gathered them into his netting. Over this, he will rejoice and exult.15 A todos los saca él con anzuelo, los atrae en su red, en su traína los recoge. Por eso se alegra y regocija,
For this reason, he will offer victims to his dragnet, and he will sacrifice to his netting. For through them, his portion has been made fat, and his meals elite.16 por eso sacrifica a su red, e inciensa a su traína, porque gracias a ellas es pingüe su porción, y suculenta su comida.
Because of this, therefore, he expands his dragnet and will not be lenient in continually putting to death the peoples.17 Por eso vacía sin cesar su red para matar naciones sin piedad.
