1 The word of the Lord that came to Joel, the son of Pethuel.	1 - Parola di Dio che fu comunicata a Joele figlio di Fatuel:
2 Listen to this, elders, and pay close attention, all inhabitants of the land. Did this ever happen in your days or in the days of your fathers?	2 «Ascoltate, questo, o vecchi, porgete orecchio tutti voi, abitanti della terra, se un fatto simile è mai avvenuto ai vostri giorni o ai giorni dei padri vostri!
3 Talk this over with your sons, and your sons with their sons, and their sons with another generation.	3 Discorretene ai vostri figli e i figli vostri ai figli loro, e i figli loro all'altra generazione.
4 The locust has eaten what the caterpillar has left, and the beetle has eaten what the locust has left, and the mildew has eaten what the beetle has left.	4 L'avanzo del verme lo divorò la locusta, e l'avanzo della locusta lo divorò il bruco, e l'avanzo del bruco lo divorò la ruggine.
5 Rouse yourselves, you drunkards, and weep and wail, all you who delight in drinking wine; for it has been cut off from your mouth.	5 Risvegliatevi, ubriachi, e piangete e urlate tutti voi, bevitori di vino prelibato, perchè vi è stato tolto dalla bocca.
6 For a nation has ascended over my land: strong and without number. His teeth are like the teeth of a lion, and his molars are like that of a lion’s young.	6 Perchè è salita sopra la mia terra una gente forte e senza numero; i suoi denti sono come i denti del leone e i suoi mascellari come quelli del lioncello.
7 He has put my vineyard into desolation, and he has pulled off the bark of my fig tree. He has stripped it bare and cast it away; its branches have become white.	7 Ha ridotta la mia vigna in un deserto, ha scortecciato il mio fico, e lo ha spogliato nudo e abbattuto: i suoi rami si sono fatti tutti bianchi.
8 Lament like a betrothed virgin, wrapped in sackcloth at the loss of the husband of her youth.	8 Piangi, come vergine vestita a lutto, per la morte dell'uomo della sua fiorente età!
9 Sacrifice and libation have perished from the house of the Lord; the priests who are ministers of the Lord have mourned.	9 Sbandito il sacrificio e la libazione dalla casa del Signore, nel duolo i sacerdoti ministri del Signore!
10 The region has been depopulated, the soil has mourned. For the wheat has been devastated, the wine has been disfigured, the oil has languished.	10 La campagna devastata, squallida la terra; perchè il grano s'è guastato, il vino ha fallito, e l'olio è andato a male.
11 The farmers have been confounded, the vineyard workers have wailed over the crop and the barley, because the harvest of the field has perished.	11 Gli agricoltori sono sgomenti, i vignaiuoli fanno grida lamentose sul frumento e sull'orzo, perchè il raccolto dei campi è perduto.
12 The vineyard is in ruin, and the fig tree has languished. The pomegranate tree, and the palm tree, and the fruit tree, and all the trees of the field have withered. For joy has been thrown into disorder before the sons of men.	12 La vigna è avvizzita, il fico è intristito, il melagrano e la palma e tutte le piante della campagna seccarono, per cui è svanita la gioia dai figli degli uomini.
13 Priests, gird yourselves and lament. Ministers of the altars, wail. Enter, ministers of my God, lie in sackcloth. For sacrifice and libation have passed away from the house of your God.	13 Cingetevi e piangete, o sacerdoti, alzate il vostro grido, o ministri dell'altare, entrate, pernottate vestiti di sacco, o ministri del mio Dio, perchè è sparita l'offerta e la libazione della casa del vostro Dio.
14 Sanctify a fast, call an assembly, gather the elders and all the inhabitants of the land into the house of your God. And cry out to the Lord:	14 Indite il digiuno santo, convocate la radunanza, riunite gli anziani, tutti gli abitanti del paese nella casa del vostro Dio e gridate:
15 “Ah, ah, ah, the day!” For the day of the Lord is near, and it will arrive, like a devastation, before the powerful.	15 - Ahi, in quel giorno! - Perchè il giorno del Signore è vicino e verrà quale la devastazione di colui che tutto può.
16 Has not your nourishment perished from before your eyes, joy and gladness from the house of our God?	16 Non è forse sotto gli occhi vostri che gli alimenti sono venuti a mancare, dalla casa del vostro Dio, e l'allegrezza e il gaudio?
17 The mules have rotted in their own manure, the barns have been demolished, the wine cellars have been destroyed, because the grain has been ruined.	17 Gli animali da lavoro sono marciti nel loro letame; i granai rovinati, in desolazione i magazzini; perchè le raccolte hanno fallito.
18 Why have the animals groaned, the herds of cattle bellowed? because there is no pasture for them. Yes, and even the flocks of sheep have been lost.	18 E il bestiame, perchè geme? perchè mugolano le mandre degli armenti? Perchè non hanno più pascoli; anche le mandre delle pecore sono perite.
19 To you, O Lord, I will cry out, because fire has devoured the beauty of the wilderness, and the flame has burned all the trees of the countryside.	19 Verso di te, o Signore, io griderò; perchè un fuoco ha consunto il buono dei pascoli campestri, e una vampa ha riarso tutte le piante della contrada.
20 Yes, and even the beasts of the field have gazed up at you, like the dry ground thirsting for rain, because the fountains of waters have dried up, and fire has devoured the beauty of the wilderness.	20 Ma anche le bestie della campagna, come un'aiuola assetata di pioggia, alzarono anelanti lo sguardo a te; perchè si sono inaridite le sorgenti d'acqua e l'arsura ha divorato il buono dei pascoli campestri.
