Isaiah 1

1 The vision of Isaiah, the son of Amoz, which he saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem, in the days of Uzziah, Joatham, Ahaz, and Hezekiah, kings of Judah.	1 Visione che Isaia, figlio di Amoz, ebbe su Giuda e Gerusalemme al tempo di Ozia, Iotam, Acaz ed Ezechia, re di Giuda.
2 Listen, O heavens, and pay attention, O earth, for the Lord has spoken. I have nurtured and raised children, but they have spurned me.	2 Udite, cieli, ascolta, terra, poiché parla il Signore: "Ho cresciuto dei figli, li ho esaltati, ed essi si sono ribellati contro di me.
3 An ox knows his owner, and a donkey knows the manger of his lord, but Israel has not known me, and my people have not understood.	3 Il bue riconosce il suo proprietario, e l'asino la mangiatoia del suo padrone, ma Israele non conosce e il mio popolo non comprende".
4 Woe to a sinful nation, a people burdened by iniquity, a wicked offspring, accursed children. They have abandoned the Lord. They have blasphemed the Holy One of Israel. They been taken away backwards.	4 Guai alla nazione peccatrice, al popolo carico di iniquità, alla razza di malfattori, ai figli corrotti! Hanno abbandonato il Signore, hanno disprezzato il Santo d'Israele, si sono voltati indietro.
5 For what reason shall I continue to strike you, as you increase transgressions? The entire head is feeble, and the entire heart is grieving.	5 Dove volete ancora essere colpiti, voi che accumulate ribellioni? Tutta la testa è inferma, tutto il cuore languisce.
6 From the sole of the foot, even to the top of the head, there is no soundness within. Wounds and bruises and swelling sores: these are not bandaged, nor treated with medicine, nor soothed with oil.	6 Dalla pianta del piede fino al capo, niente vi è d'intatto; ferite, lividure e piaghe aperte non sono state pulite né fasciate né lenite con olio.
7 Your land is desolate. Your cities have been set ablaze. Foreigners devour your countryside in your sight, and it will become desolate, as if devastated by enemies.	7 Il vostro paese è desolato, le vostre città bruciate dal fuoco, il vostro suolo, gli stranieri lo divorano in vostra presenza; la desolazione è come una catastrofe prodotta da stranieri.
8 And the daughter of Zion will be left behind, like an arbor in a vineyard, and like a shelter in a cucumber field, and like a city being laid to waste.	8 La figlia di Sion è rimasta come una capanna in una vigna, come un rifugio in un campo di cocomeri, come una città assediata.
9 If the Lord of hosts had not bequeathed us offspring, we would have been like Sodom, and we would have been comparable to Gomorrah.	9 Se il Signore degli eserciti non ci avesse lasciato alcuni scampati, saremmo come Sodoma, rassomiglieremmo a Gomorra.
10 Listen to the Word of the Lord, you leaders of the people of Sodom. Listen closely to the law of our God, O people of Gomorrah.	10 Ascoltate la parola del Signore, magistrati di Sodoma, prestate orecchio all'insegnamento del nostro Dio, popolo di Gomorra!
11 The multitude of your sacrifices, what is that to me, says the Lord? I am full. I do not desire holocausts of rams, nor the fat of fatlings, nor the blood of calves and of lambs and of he-goats.	11 Che m'importa dell'abbondanza dei vostri sacrifici?, dice il Signore. Sono sazio degli olocausti degli arieti e del grasso dei vitelli. Il sangue dei tori, degli agnelli e dei capri non lo gradisco.
12 When you approach before my sight, who is it that requires these things from your hands, so that you would walk in my courts?	12 Quando venite a presentarvi davanti a me, chi richiede da voi che calpestiate i miei atri?
13 You should no longer offer sacrifice vain. Incense is an abomination to me. The new moons and the Sabbaths and the other feast days, I will not receive. Your gatherings are iniquitous.	13 Cessate di portare oblazioni inutili, l'incenso è per me un'abominazione, noviluni, sabati, pubbliche assemblee, non sopporto iniquità e feste solenni.
14 My soul hates your days of proclamation and your solemnities. They have become bothersome to me. I labor to endure them.	14 L'anima mia odia i vostri noviluni e le vostre solennità; esse sono per me un peso, sono stanco di sopportarle.
15 And so, when you extend your hands, I will avert my eyes from you. And when you multiply your prayers, I will not heed you. For your hands are full of blood.	15 Quando tendete le vostre mani, io chiudo i miei occhi davanti a voi. Anche quando moltiplicate la preghiera, io non ascolto, le vostre mani sono piene di sangue.
16 Wash, become clean, take away the evil of your intentions from my eyes. Cease to act perversely.	16 Lavatevi, purificatevi, rimuovete dal mio cospetto il male delle vostre azioni, cessate di operare il male.
17 Learn to do good. Seek judgment, support the oppressed, judge for the orphan, defend the widow.	17 Imparate a fare il bene, ricercate il diritto, soccorrete l'oppresso, rendete giustizia all'orfano, difendete la vedova.
18 And then approach and accuse me, says the Lord. Then, if your sins are like scarlet, they shall be made white like snow; and if they are red like vermillion, they shall become white like wool.	18 Orsù, venite e discutiamo, dice il Signore: se i vostri peccati sono come scarlatto, diventeranno bianchi come neve; se sono rossi come la porpora, diventeranno come lana.
19 If you are willing, and you listen to me, then you will eat the good things of the land.	19 Se sarete volonterosi ed obbedirete, mangerete i beni del paese.
20 But if you are not willing, and you provoke me to anger, then the sword will devour you. For the mouth of the Lord has spoken.	20 Ma se rifiutate e vi ribellate, sarete divorati dalla spada, perché la bocca del Signore ha parlato.
21 How has the faithful city, full of judgment, become a harlot? Justice lived in her, but now murderers.	21 Come mai è divenuta una meretrice la città fedele? Era piena di rettitudine, la giustizia abitava in essa, ora invece vi abitano gli assassini.
22 Your silver has turned into dross. Your wine has been mixed with water.	22 Il tuo argento è diventato scorie, il tuo vino mescolato con acqua.
23 Your leaders are unfaithful, the associates of thieves. They all love gifts; they pursue rewards. They do not judge for orphans, and the widow’s case is not brought before them.	23 I tuoi prìncipi sono ribelli e compagni di ladri; tutti essi amano regali e corrono dietro alle ricompense. Non fanno giustizia all'orfano e la causa della vedova non giunge fino ad essi.
24 Because of this, the Lord God of hosts, the Strength of Israel, says: Ah! I will be consoled over my enemies, and I will be vindicated from my adversaries.	24 Perciò, oracolo del Signore, Dio degli eserciti, il Potente d'Israele: Ah, mi vendicherò dei miei avversari e farò vendetta dei miei nemici!
25 And I will turn my hand to you. And I will temper your dross unto purity, and I will take away all your tin.	25 Stenderò la mia mano sopra di te, purificherò le tue scorie, come in un forno rimuoverò tutto il tuo piombo.
26 And I will restore your judges, so that they will be as before, and your counselors as in times long past. After this, you shall be called the City of the Just, the Faithful City.	26 Renderò i tuoi giudici di nuovo come all'inizio e i tuoi consiglieri come al principio; dopo di ciò sarai chiamata "città della giustizia" "città fedele".
27 Zion will be redeemed in judgment, and they will lead her back to justice.	27 Sion sarà redenta attraverso il giudizio e i suoi convertiti per la giustizia.
28 And he shall crush the accursed and sinners together. And those who have abandoned the Lord will be consumed.	28 Ma i ribelli e i peccatori saranno insieme annientati, e quelli che abbandonano il Signore periranno.
29 For they shall be confounded because of the idols, to which they have sacrificed. And you shall be ashamed over the gardens that you chose,	29 Sì, sarete confusi a causa delle querce che amate, e arrossirete a causa dei giardini che prediligete.
30 when you were like an oak with falling leaves, and like a garden without water.	30 Sì, sarete come quercia dalle foglie cadenti e come giardino cui manca l'acqua.
31 And your strength will be like the embers from stubble, and your work will be like a spark, and both will burn together, and there will be no one to extinguish it.	31 Il vigoroso diventerà stoppa e la sua opera una favilla, ambedue bruceranno insieme e nessuno le spegnerà.
