Psalms 17

1 Unto the end. For David, the servant of the Lord, who spoke the words of this canticle to the Lord, in the day that the Lord delivered him from the hand of all his enemies and from the hand of Saul. And he said:	1 In fine al servo del Signore David, il qual ha parlato al Signore le parole di questo cantico, nel dì nel qual il Signore il liberò delle mani delli suoi inimici, e della mano di Saul.
2 I will love you, O Lord my strength.	2 Amarò te, Signore, mia fortezza;
3 The Lord is my firmament, my refuge, and my liberator. My God is my helper, and I hope in him: my protector, and the horn of my salvation, and my support.	3 Signore, mio firmamento, e rifugio mio, e liberatore mio; Dio mio, aiutator mio; e in lui spererò. Egli è mio difensore, e potenza della mia salute, e mio ricevitore.
4 Praising, I will call upon the Lord. And I will be saved from my enemies.	4 Laudante invocherò il Signore; e sarò salvo da' miei inimici.
5 The sorrows of death surrounded me, and the torrents of iniquity dismayed me.	5 (Perchè) mi hanno circondato i dolori della morte; e gli fiumi della iniquità mi hanno conturbato.
6 The sorrows of Hell encompassed me, and the snares of death intercepted me.	6 I dolori dell' inferno mi hanno circondato; li lacci della morte mi hanno compreso.
7 In my tribulation, I called upon the Lord, and I cried out to my God. And he listened to my voice from his holy temple. And my cry in his presence entered into his ears.	7 Nella mia tribulazione invocai il Signore, e gridai al mio Dio. Ed esauditte la mia voce dal tempio santo suo; e il mio grido, fatto nel suo cospetto, entrò nelle sue orecchie.
8 The earth was shaken, and it trembled. The foundations of the mountains were disturbed, and they were shaken, because he was angry with them.	8 Commossa è la terra, e tremò; conturboronsi i fondamenti de' monti, e si movettero, perchè il Signore è adirato contro di loro.
9 A smoke ascended by his wrath, and a fire flared up from his face: coals were kindled by it.	9 Salitte il fumo nell' ira sua, e il fuoco ardette dalla sua faccia; da lui furono inflammati i carboni.
10 He bent the heavens, and they descended. And darkness was under his feet.	10 Inclinò i cieli, e discese; e la oscurità fu sotto i suoi piedi.
11 And he ascended upon the cherubim, and he flew: he flew upon the feathers of the winds.	11 E ascese sopra i cherubini, e volò; vold sopra le penne de' venti.
12 And he set darkness as his hiding place, with his tabernacle all around him: dark waters in the clouds of the air.	12 E puose le tenebre per suo secreto; nel suo circuito è il suo tabernacolo; la tenebrosa acqua è nelle nubi dell' aere.
13 At the brightness that was before his sight, the clouds crossed by, with hail and coals of fire.	13 Più che fulgore nel suo cospetto passorono le nubi, la tempesta e i carboni del fuoco.
14 And the Lord thundered from heaven, and the Most High uttered his voice: hail and coals of fire.	14 E il Signor intonò dal cielo, e l' Altissimo dette la sua voce; venne la tempesta e i carboni del fuoco.
15 And he sent forth his arrows and scattered them. He multiplied lightnings, and he set them in disarray.	15 E mandò le sue sagitte, e dissipò quelli; moltiplicò i fùlgori, e conturbolli.
16 Then the fountains of waters appeared, and the foundations of the world were revealed, by your rebuke, O Lord, by the inspiration of the Spirit of your wrath.	16 E apparsero i fonti delle acque, e sono manifestati i fondamenti del circuito delle terre, Signore (queste sono), dalla tua reprensione, dalla inspirazione del spirito della tua ira.
17 He sent from on high, and he accepted me. And he took me up, out of many waters.	17 Mandò dall' alto, e tolsemi; levò me di molte acque.
18 He rescued me from my strongest enemies, and from those who hated me. For they had been too strong for me.	18 Mi liberò da' miei fortissimi inimici, e da quelli che mi hanno avuto in odio; perchè sopra di me sono confortati.
19 They intercepted me in the day of my affliction, and the Lord became my protector.	19 Inanzi a me vennero nel dì della mia afflizione; ma il Signore è fatto mio difensore.
20 And he led me out, into a wide place. He accomplished my salvation, because he willed me.	20 E condussemi nella larghezza (della carità); fece me salvo, perchè mi ha vogliuto.
21 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice, and he will repay me according to the purity of my hands.	21 E a me retribuirà il Signore secondo la mia giustizia; e secondo la purità delle [mie] mani a me renderà.
22 For I have preserved the ways of the Lord, and I have not behaved impiously before my God.	22 Però [che] ho guardato le vie del Signore, e non ho fatto cosa empia al Dio mio.
23 For all his judgments are in my sight, and his justice, I have not pushed away from me.	23 Perchè tutti gli suoi giudicii sono nel mio conspetto; e le sue giustizie non ho gittate da me.
24 And I will be immaculate together with him, and I will keep myself from my iniquity.	24 E sarò con lui senza macula; e guardarommi dalla mia iniquità.
25 And the Lord will reward me according to my justice and according to the purity of my hands before his eyes.	25 E renderà a me il Signore secondo la mia giustizia, e secondo la purità delle mie mani nel conspetto de' suoi occhii.
26 With the holy, you will be holy, and with the innocent, you will be innocent,	26 Con il santo sarai santo, e con l' uomo innocente sarai innocente.
27 and with the elect, you will be elect, and with the perverse, you will be perverse.	27 E con lo eletto sarai eletto, e con lo perverso sarai più perverso.
28 For you will save the humble people, but you will bring down the eyes of the arrogant.	28 Perchè tu salverai il popolo umile, e umiliarai gli occhii delli superbi.
29 For you illuminate my lamp, O Lord. My God, enlighten my darkness.	29 Perchè tu, Signore, illumini la mia lucerna; Dio mio, illumina le mie tenebre.
30 For in you, I will be delivered from temptation; and with my God, I will climb over a wall.	30 Perchè in te sarò liberato dalla tentazione, e nel mio Dio trapasserò il muro.
31 As for my God, his way is undefiled. The eloquence of the Lord has been examined by fire. He is the protector of all who hope in him.	31 Dio mio, monda è la sua via; i parlari del Signore sono esaminati col fuoco; egli è difensore di. tutti i speranti in sè.
32 For who is God, except the Lord? And who is God, except our God?	32 Imperò [che] chi è Dio, salvo il Signore? ovver chi è Dio, salvo il nostro Dio?
33 It is God who has wrapped me with virtue and made my way immaculate.	33 Egli è quel Dio, che mi ha cinto di virtude, e ha posta la mia via immacolata.
34 It is he who has perfected my feet, like the feet of deer, and who stations me upon the heights.	34 Egli ha posto i miei piedi come di cervi, ordinando me sopra gli eccelsi.
35 It is he who trains my hands for battle. And you have set my arms like a bow of brass.	35 Il qual ammaestra le mie mani alla battaglia; e ha posto le mie braccia, come arco di ferro.
36 And you have given me the protection of your salvation. And your right hand sustains me. And your discipline has corrected me unto the end. And your discipline itself will teach me.	36 Tu mi hai dato la defensione della tua salute; e la tua destra mi ha ricevuto. E la tua disciplina nella fine mi ha corretto; e la tua disciplina, quella mi insegnerà.
37 You have expanded my footsteps under me, and my tracks have not been weakened.	37 Tu hai dilatati sotto di me i miei andari; e le mie vestigie non sono infirmate.
38 I will pursue my enemies and apprehend them. And I will not turn back until they have failed.	38 Perseguiterò gli miei inimici, e piglierolli; none staranno, insino che saranno venuti a meno.
39 I will break them, and they will not be able to stand. They will fall under my feet.	39 Appezzarolli, e non potranno stare; caderanno sotto i miei piedi.
40 And you have wrapped me with virtue for the battle. And those rising up against me, you have subdued under me.	40 E ha'mi cinto di virtù a combattere; e hai posto sotto di me gli miei contradicenti.
41 And you have given the back of my enemies to me, and you have destroyed those who hated me.	41 E dopo le mie spalle hai dato gli miei inimici, e distrutto coloro che mi hanno in odio.
42 They cried out, but there was none to save them, to the Lord, but he did not heed them.	42 Gridorono, e non era cui gli facesse salvi; e al Signore chiamorono, e non gli esaudì.
43 And I will crush them into dust before the face of the wind, so that I will obliterate them like the mud in the streets.	43 Disfarolli come polvere dinanzi alla faccia del vento; gitterolli come luto delle piazze.
44 You will rescue me from the contradictions of the people. You will set me at the head of the Gentiles.	44 Tu mi libererai della contradizione del popolo; ordinera'mi nel capo delle genti.
45 A people I did not know has served me. As soon as their ears heard, they were obedient to me.	45 Il popolo, ch' io non conobbi, mi ha servito; nell' udire della orecchia mi ha obbedito.
46 The sons of foreigners have been deceitful to me, the sons of foreigners have grown weak with time, and they have wavered from their paths.	46 Hannomi mentito i figliuoli estranei; gli figliuoli estranei sono invecchiati, e hanno zoppicato [dalle] loro vie.
47 The Lord lives, and blessed is my God, and may the God of my salvation be exalted:	47 Vive il Signore, e benedetto il mio Dio, e sia esaltato il Dio della mia salute.
48 O God, who vindicates me and who subdues the people under me, my liberator from my enraged enemies.	48 Dio, il quale a me dài la vendetta, e sottoponi i popoli sotto di me, liberatore mio delli miei irati inimici.
49 And you will exalt me above those who rise up against me. From the iniquitous man, you will rescue me.	49 Ed esaltera'mi dalli levanti contra di me; e liberara'mi dall' uomo iniquo.
50 Because of this, O Lord, I will confess to you among the nations, and I will compose a psalm to your name:	50 Però, Signore, a te confesserò nelle nazioni; e dirò al tuo nome la laude,
51 magnifying the salvation of his king, and showing mercy to David, his Christ, and to his offspring, even for all time.	51 magnificante le saluti al suo re, e facente la misericordia al suo cristo David, e al suo seme insino IN SECULA.
