A Canticle in steps. I have lifted up my eyes to the mountains; from thence help will come to me.1 [Song of Ascents *{* The Songs of Ascents (Pss 120-134) were sung by pilgrims on their way up toJerusalem.} ] To Yahweh when I am in trouble I call and he answers me.
My help is from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.2 Yahweh, save me from lying lips and a treacherous tongue!
May he not allow your foot to be moved, and may he not slumber, who guards you.3 What will he repay you, what more, treacherous tongue?
Behold, he who guards Israel will neither sleep, nor slumber.4 War-arrows made sharp over red-hot charcoal.
The Lord is your keeper, the Lord is your protection, above your right hand.5 How wretched I am, living in Meshech, dwel ing in the tents of Kedar!
The sun will not burn you by day, nor the moon by night.6 Too long have I lived among people who hate peace.
The Lord guards you from all evil. May the Lord guard your soul.7 When I speak of peace they are all for war!
May the Lord guard your entrance and your exit, from this time forward and even forever.
