1 He also said to Moses: “Ascend to the Lord, you and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy elders out of Israel, and adore from a distance.	1 Dieu dit alors à Moïse: “Monte vers Yahvé avec Aaron, Nadab, Abihou et les soixante-dix anciens d’Israël. De loin vous vous prosternerez.
2 And only Moses will ascend to the Lord, and these shall not approach. Neither shall the people ascend with him.”	2 Puis Moïse s’avancera seul vers Yahvé; eux ne s’avanceront pas et le peuple ne montera pas avec eux.”
3 Therefore, Moses went and explained to the people all the words of the Lord, as well as the judgments. And all the people responded with one voice: “We will do all the words of the Lord, which he has spoken.”	3 Moïse descendit, il répéta au peuple toutes ces paroles de Yahvé et toutes ces lois. Tous d’une seule voix répondirent: “Nous ferons tout ce que Yahvé a dit!”
4 Then Moses wrote all the words of the Lord. And rising up in the morning, he built an altar at the base of the mountain, with twelve titles according to the twelve tribes of Israel.	4 Alors Moïse écrivit toutes les paroles de Yahvé. De bon matin il se leva et construisit un autel au pied de la montagne, avec douze pierres dressées pour les douze tribus d’Israël.
5 And he sent youths from the sons of Israel, and they offered holocausts, and they immolated calves as peace-offerings to the Lord.	5 Puis il chargea de jeunes Israélites d’offrir des sacrifices par le feu et de jeunes taureaux en sacrifice de communion.
6 And so Moses took one half part of the blood, and he put it into bowls. Then the remaining part he poured over the altar.	6 Moïse prit la moitié du sang et le mit dans des bassins; avec l’autre moitié du sang il aspergea l’autel.
7 And taking up the book of the covenant, he read it in the hearing of the people, who said: “All that the Lord has spoken, we will do, and we will be obedient.”	7 Il prit ensuite le livre de l’Alliance et le lut devant tout le peuple. Ils répondirent: “Nous ferons tout ce que Yahvé a dit et nous l’écouterons!”
8 In truth, taking up the blood, he sprinkled it on the people, and he said, “This is the blood of the covenant, which the Lord has formed with you concerning all these words.”	8 Alors Moïse prit le sang, il en aspergea le peuple, puis il dit: “Voici le sang de l’Alliance que Yahvé a conclue avec vous, selon toutes ces paroles.”
9 And Moses and Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, and seventy of the elders of Israel ascended.	9 Moïse monta ensuite avec Aaron, Nadab, Abihou et les soixante-dix anciens d’Israël.
10 And they saw the God of Israel. And under his feet was something like a work of sapphire stone, or like the sky, when it is serene.	10 Ils virent le Dieu d’Israël: il y avait sous ses pieds comme un dallage de saphir, si pur que l’on aurait dit le ciel.
11 Neither did he lay his hand upon those of the sons of Israel who were at a distance. And they saw God, and they ate and drank.	11 Dieu ne porta pas la main sur ceux qu’il avait choisis, mais ils virent Dieu; ils mangèrent et ils burent.
12 Then the Lord said to Moses: “Ascend to me on the mountain, and be there. And I will give to you tablets of stone, and the law and the commandments that I have written. So may you teach them.”	12 Dieu dit à Moïse: “Monte vers moi sur la montagne, et reste là pour que je te donne des tables de pierre avec la loi et la règle que j’ai écrites pour leur instruction.”
13 Moses rose up, with Joshua his minister. And Moses, ascending on the mountain of God,	13 Moïse se leva avec Josué, son serviteur, et ils montèrent à la montagne de Dieu.
14 said to the elders: “Wait here, until we return to you. You have Aaron and Hur with you. If any question arises, you shall refer it to them.”	14 Il avait dit aux anciens: “Restez ici jusqu’à ce que nous revenions. Vous avez avec vous Aaron et Hour, s’il arrive quelque chose vous verrez avec eux.”
15 And when Moses had ascended, a cloud covered the mountain.	15 Moïse fit donc l’ascension de la montagne, et la nuée la couvrit.
16 And the glory of the Lord dwelt upon Sinai, covering it with a cloud for six days. And on the seventh day, he called to him from the middle of the mist.	16 La Gloire de Yahvé s’était posée sur le mont Sinaï et la nuée le couvrit pendant six jours. Le septième jour, Dieu appela Moïse du milieu de la nuée.
17 Now the appearance of the glory of the Lord was like a burning fire over the summit of the mountain in the sight of the sons of Israel.	17 La Gloire de Yahvé restait au sommet de la montagne à la vue des Israélites, semblable à un feu dévorant,
18 And Moses, entering into the midst of the cloud, ascended the mountain. And he was there for forty days and forty nights.	18 et Moïse entra dans la nuée tandis qu’il gravissait la montagne. Moïse resta sur la montagne quarante jours et quarante nuits.
