CATHOLIC PUBLIC DOMAINEL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS
Then Moses and the sons of Israel sang this song to the Lord, and they said: “Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been gloriously magnified: the horse and the rider he has cast into the sea.1 Entonces Moisés y los israelitas entonaron este canto en honor del Señor: «Cantaré al Señor, que se ha cubierto de gloria: él hundió en el mar los caballos y los carros.
The Lord is my strength and my praise, and he has become my salvation. He is my God, and I shall glorify him. He is the God of my father, and I shall exalt him.2 El Señor es mi fuerza y mi protección, él me salvó.
The Lord is like a fighting man. Almighty is his name.3 El Señor es un guerrero, su nombre es «Señor».
The chariots of Pharaoh, and his army, he has cast into the sea; his elect leaders have been submerged in the Red Sea.4 El arrojó al mar los carros del Faraón y su ejército, lo mejor de sus soldados se hundió en el Mar Rojo.
The abyss has covered them. They descended into the depths like a stone.5 El abismo los cubrió, cayeron como una piedra en lo profundo del mar
Your right hand, O Lord, has been magnified in strength. Your right hand, O Lord, has struck down the enemy.6 Tu mano, Señor, resplandece por su fuerza, tu mano, Señor, aniquila al enemigo.
And in the multitude of your glory you have put down your adversaries. You sent out your wrath, which devoured them like stubble.7 Con la inmensidad de tu gloria derribas a tus adversarios, desatas tu furor, que los consume como paja.
And by the breath of your fury, the waters were gathered together. The flowing waves stood still. The abyss was gathered into the midst of the sea.8 Al soplo de tu ira se agolparon las aguas, las olas se levantaron como un dique, se hicieron compactos los abismos del mar.
The enemy said: ‘I will pursue and overtake them. I will divide the spoils. My soul will be filled. I will unsheathe my sword. My hand will put them to death.’9 El enemigo decía: «Los perseguiré, los alcanzaré, repartiré sus despojos, saciaré mi avidez, desenvainaré la espada, mi mano los destruirá».
Your breath blew, and the sea covered them. They were submerged like lead into the mighty waters.10 Tú soplaste con tu aliento, y el mar los envolvió; se hundieron como plomo en las aguas formidables.
Who is like you in strength, O Lord? Who is like you: magnificent in sanctity, terrible and yet praiseworthy, accomplishing miracles?11 ¿Quién, como tú, es admirable entre los santos, terrible por tus hazañas, autor de maravillas?
You extended your hand, and the earth devoured them.12 Extendiste tu mano y los tragó la tierra.
In your mercy, you have been a leader to the people whom you have redeemed. And in your strength, you have carried them to your holy dwelling place.13 Guías con tu fidelidad al pueblo que has rescatado y lo conduces con tu poder hacia tu santa morada.
Peoples rose up and became angry. Sorrows took hold of the inhabitants of Philistia.14 Tiemblan los pueblos al oír la noticia: los habitantes de Filistea se estremecen,
Then the leaders of Edom were stirred up, and trembling took hold of the robust of Moab. All the inhabitants of Canaan were petrified.15 cunde el pánico entre los jefes de Edom, un temblor sacude a los príncipes de Moab, desfallecen todos los habitantes de Canaán.
Let fear and dread fall upon them, by the magnitude of your arm. Let them become immobilized like stone, until your people cross through, O Lord, until this, your people whom you possess, cross through.16 El pánico y el terror los invaden, la fuerza de tu brazo los deja petrificados, hasta que pasa tu pueblo, Señor, hasta que pasa el pueblo que tú has adquirido.
You shall lead them in and plant them, on the mountain of your inheritance, in your most firm dwelling place, which you have formed, O Lord, your sanctuary, O Lord, which your hands have made firm.17 Tú lo llevas y lo plantas en la montaña de tu herencia, en el lugar que preparaste para tu morada, en el Santuario, Señor, que fundaron tus manos.
The Lord will reign in eternity and beyond.18 ¡El Señor reina eternamente!».
For the rider Pharaoh, with his chariots and horsemen, was brought into the sea. And the Lord brought back upon them the waters of the sea. But the sons of Israel walked across dry ground in its midst.”19 Cuando la caballería del Faraón, con sus carros y sus guerreros, entró en medio del mar, el Señor hizo que las aguas se volvieran contra ellos; los israelitas, en cambio, cruzaron el mar como si fuera tierra firme.
And so Miriam, the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took up a timbrel in her hand. And all the women followed her with timbrels and dancing.20 Entonces Miriam, la profetisa, que era hermana de Aarón, tomó en sus manos un tamboril, y todas las mujeres iban detrás de ella, con tamboriles y formando coros de baile.
And she prophesied, saying: “Let us sing to the Lord, for he has been gloriously magnified. The horse and its rider, he has thrown into the sea.”21 Y Miriam repetía: «Canten al Señor, que se ha cubierto de gloria: él hundió en el mar los caballos y los carros».
Then Moses took Israel from the Red Sea, and they went forth into the desert of Shur. And they wandered for three days through the wilderness, and they found no water.22 Moisés hizo partir a los israelitas del Mar Rojo.
And they arrived at Marah. They were unable to drink the waters of Marah because they were bitter. Therefore, he also established a name befitting the place, calling it ‘Marah,’ that is, bitterness.23 llegaron a Mará, pero no pudieron beber el agua porque era amarga.
And the people murmured against Moses, saying: “What shall we drink?”24 Y el pueblo se puso a protestar contra Moisés, diciendo: «¿Qué vamos a beber ahora?».
So he cried out to the Lord, who showed him a tree. And when he had cast it into the waters, they were turned into sweetness. In that place, he established instructions for him, and also judgments. And he tested him there,25 Moisés invocó al Señor, y el Señor le indicó un árbol.
saying: “If you will listen to the voice of the Lord your God, and do what is right in his sight, and obey his commands, and keep all his precepts, I will not bring upon you any of the distress that I imposed on Egypt. For I am the Lord, your healer.”26 Luego les dijo: «Si escuchas realmente lo voz del Señor, tu Dios, y practicas lo que es recto a sus ojos, si prestas atención a sus mandamientos y observas todos sus preceptos, no te infligiré ninguna de las enfermedades que envié contra Egipto, porque yo, el Señor, soy el que te da la salud».
Then the sons of Israel arrived in Elim, where there were twelve fountains of water and seventy palm trees. And they camped next to the waters.27 Después llegaron a Elim, un lugar donde había doce fuentes y setenta palmeras, y allí establecieron su campamento, a orilla de las aguas.
