1 Samuel 24

1 From there David went up and installed himself in the strongholds of En-Gedi.	1 E David ascendeo indi; e abitò nei fortissimi luoghi di Engaddi.
2 Once Saul was back from pursuing the Philistines, he was told, 'David is now in the desert of En-Gedi.'	2 E ritornato Saul, avendo perseguitato gli Filistei, fugli detto: David si è nel deserto di Engaddi.
3 Saul thereupon took three thousand men selected from al Israel and went in search of David and hismen east of the Rocks of the Mountain Goats.	3 E Saul, tolti III milia uomini eletti di tutto Israel, andò a cercare di David e de' suoi uomini, eziandio sopra i sassi altissimi, li quali sono vie solo alle capre selvatiche.
4 He came to the sheepfolds along the route, where there was a cave, and went in to cover his feet.Now David and his men were sitting in the recesses of the cave;	4 E pervennero alle mandrie delle pecore, le quali si trovavano in via; dove ch' era una spelonca, nella quale entrò Saul per purgare il ventre. E David coi suoi erano nascosi, in parte più dentro, in questa spelonca.
5 David's men said to him, 'Today is the day of which Yahweh said to you, "I shall deliver your enemyinto your power; do what you like with him." ' David got up and, unobserved, cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	5 E dissero a David li servi suoi: ecco il dì, del quale Iddio ti disse: io ti darò il tuo nemico nelle tue mani, acciò che tu gli facci sì come negli occhi tuoi piacerà. E David si levò suso, e occultamente tagliò l'orlo del vestimento di Saul.
6 Afterwards David reproached himself for having cut off the border of Saul's cloak.	6 ...
7 He said to his men, 'Yahweh preserve me from doing such a thing to my lord as to raise my handagainst him, since he is Yahweh's anointed.'	7 E disse agli uomini suoi; perdonimi Iddio, ch' io non farò così al Signore mio, unto da Dio, che io metta in lui le mie mani, però ch' egli è cristo di Dio. (Vive il Signore che se Iddio nol ferirà, e non verrà il dì ch' egli moia o perisca in battaglia, Iddio mi sia propizio, ch' io non metterò la mano in lo cristo del Signore).
8 By these words David restrained his men and would not let them attack Saul.	8 E ruppe David con parole i servi suoi, e non permise che il toccassero. E Saul, levandosi, andava per lo incominciato cammino.
9 Saul then left the cave and went on his way. After this, David too left the cave and cal ed after Saul,'My lord king!' Saul looked behind him and David, bowing to the ground, prostrated himself.	9 E David, uscendo dopo lui, chiamò e disse: Signore, mio re. E Saul guardò adietro sè; e David adorò, chinandosi insino a terra.
10 David then said to Saul, 'Why do you listen to people who say, "David intends your ruin"?	10 E disse a Saul: perchè intendi le parole degli uomini che dicono: David va cercando male contra di te?
11 This very day you have seen for yourself how Yahweh put you in my power in the cave and how,refusing to kil you, I spared you saying, "I wil not raise my hand against my lord, since he is Yahweh'sanointed."	11 Ecco, i tuoi occhii hanno veduto che oggi Iddio t'ha dato nelle mie mani in questa spelonca; e pensai di ucciderti, ma il mio occhio ti perdonò, e dissi: non estenderò la mano nel mio Signore, perchè egli è cristo di Dio.
12 Look, father, look at the border of your cloak in my hand. Since, although I cut the border off yourcloak, I did not kil you, surely you realise that I intend neither mischief nor crime. I have not wronged you, andyet you hunt me down to take my life.	12 Or considera più forte, padre mio; ecco l'orlo del tuo vestimento, ch' io l' hoe nelle mie mani; e tagliando la sommità del tuo vestimento, non ti volsi uccidere; onde vedi e considera che nella mano mia non è male nè iniquità, e non ho peccato in te; e tu guati la mia vita per toglierla via.
13 May Yahweh be judge between me and you, and may Yahweh avenge me on you; but I shall neverlay a hand on you!	13 Iddio giudichi tra te e me, e facciami vendetta di te; ma la mia mano non sia in te
14 (As the old proverb says: Wickedness comes out of wicked people, but I shal never lay a hand onyou!)	14 Sì come si dice nel proverbio antico: DAGLI UOMINI EMPII NASCE LA EMPIETÀ. E la mia mano non sia in te.
15 On whose trail is the king of Israel campaigning? Whom are you pursuing? On the trail of a deaddog, of a flea!	15 E chi persèguiti tu, re d'Israel? chi persèguiti tu? uno cane morto tu persèguiti, e una pulce.
16 May Yahweh be the judge and decide between me and you; may he examine and defend my causeand give judgement for me by rescuing me from your clutches!'	16 Sia Iddio giudice, e giudichi intra me e te; e iscampi me delle tue mani.
17 When David had finished saying this to Saul, Saul said, 'Is that your voice, my son David?' And Saulbegan to weep aloud.	17 E compiuto di dire David a Saul queste parole, disse Saul: figliuolo mio David, questa è la tua voce. E levò Saul la sua voce, e pianse.
18 'You are upright and I am not,' he said to David, 'since you have behaved wel to me, whereas I havebehaved badly to you.	18 E disse a David: tu se' più giusto di me; e tu m' hai renduto bene, e io t'ho renduto male.
19 And today you have shown how well you have behaved to me, since Yahweh had put me in yourpower but you did not kil me.	19 Tu m' hai mostrato oggi, che tu m' hai fatto bene; come Iddio m' ha dato nelle tue mani, e non m' hai morto.
20 When a man comes on his enemy, does he let him go unmolested? May Yahweh reward you for thegood you have done me today!	20 Chi sarà quegli che trovando il suo nemico, il lascerà andare in buono viaggio? Ma Iddio ti renda buono merito per questo che oggi hai fatto in me.
21 Now I know that you wil indeed reign and that the sovereignty in Israel wil pass into your hands.	21 E ora perchè so certissimamente che tu dèi regnare, e dèi avere nelle tue mani il regno d' Israel;
22 Now swear to me by Yahweh that you wil not suppress my descendants once I am gone, or blot myname out of my family.'	22 giurami in Dominedio, che tu non diserti dopo me il mio seme; della casa del mio padre non tollere il mio nome.
23 This David swore to Saul, and Saul went home while David and his men went back to the stronghold.	23 E giurò David a Saul. E Saul se n' andò a casa sua; e David colli suoi se n' andarono in luoghi più sicuri.
