1 The men of Ephraim mobilised; they crossed the Jordan near Zaphon and said to Jephthah, 'Why didyou go and make war on the Ammonites without asking us to go with you? We shal burn down your house overyour head!'	1 Ed ecco che dopo questo si levò il rumore in Efraim. Imperciò che coloro i quali passarono verso l'aquilone sì dissono a Iefte: perchè andando tu alla battaglia contro ai figliuoli di Ammon, tu non ci volesti chiamare acciò che noi venissimo teco? E però noi arderemo a fuoco la casa tua.
2 Jephthah replied, 'My people and I were in serious conflict with the Ammonites. I summoned you, butyou did not come to rescue me from them.	2 Ai quali rispose Iefte: egli era a me, e al popolo il quale era meco, una grande briga contro ai figliuoli d'Ammon, (che mi costringeva fortemente); e io vi chiamai, che voi mi deste (tanto) aiuto, e non voleste dare.
3 When I saw that no one was coming to rescue me, I took my life in my hands and marched against theAmmonites, and Yahweh handed them over to me. So why advance on me today to make war on me?'	3 E veggendo ciò, mèssi nelle mie mani l'anima (e la vita) mia (mettendomi a pericolo). E passai (oltre) ai figliuoli di Ammon; e Iddio sì gli mise nelle mie mani. Che ho io meritato, che vi siete levati contro a me per combattere?
4 Jephthah then mustered al the men of Gilead and made war on Ephraim, and the men of Gileaddefeated Ephraim -- since the latter used to say, 'You are only fugitives from Ephraim, you Gileadites in the heartof Ephraim and Manasseh.'	4 E chiamati a sè tutti quanti gli uomini di Galaad, sì combattevano forte contro quegli di Efraim; e sconfissono gli uomini di Galaad quelli di Efraim; imperciò che aveano detto, che Galaad era fuggito (e iscacciato) di Efraim; e abita ora in mezzo di Efraim e di Manasse.
5 Gilead then cut Ephraim off from the fords of the Jordan, and whenever Ephraimite fugitives said, 'Letme cross,' the men of Gilead would ask, 'Are you an Ephraimite?' If he said, 'No,'	5 E occuparono quelli di Galaad (il secco del Giordano, i quali diedono) i passi del (fiume) Giordano, per li quali doveano tornare quelli di Efraim. E vegnendo a questi passi uno uomo di Efraim fuggendo, e disse: prego te, che mi lasci passare, diceano allora quelli di Galaad : or non se' tu di Efraim? (cioè de' nemici); il quale rispondendo (disse): non sono,
6 they then said, 'Very well, say Shibboleth.' If anyone said, "Sibboleth", because he could notpronounce it, then they would seize him and kil him by the fords of the Jordan. Forty-two thousand Ephraimitesfel on this occasion.	6 domandavangli quelli (di Galaad, e dicevano): dì adunque SCIBBOLETH, che tanto è a dire quanto Spiga. Il quale sì rispose, (e disse): SIBBOLETH, non sapiendo proferire nè dire Spiga in quella medesima lettera. E incontanente sì gli pigliarono le vene della gola, e sì lo scannarono in quello passare del (fiume) Giordano. E furono morti in quello tempo di Efraim XLII milia di uomini.
7 Jephthah judged Israel for six years. Jephthah the Gileadite then died and was buried in his town, inGilead.	7 E giudicò Iefte (e resse) i figliuoli d' Israel sei anni; e morì, e fue sotterrato nella città sua di Galaad.
8 After him, Ibzan of Bethlehem was judge in Israel.	8 E dopo Iefte giudicò (e resse) Israel Abesan di Betleem,
9 He had thirty sons and thirty daughters. He gave his daughters in marriage outside his clan andbrought in thirty brides from outside for his sons. He was judge in Israel for seven years.	9 il quale sì ebbe XXX figliuoli e trenta figliuole, le quali mandandole fuori di casa, a tutte diede marito; e a' suoi medesimi XXX figliuoli diede XXX mogli, menando tutte le nuore sue (cioè le mogli de' suoi figliuoli) a casa sua propria. Il quale giudicò (e resse) Israel sette anni.
10 Ibzan then died and was buried in Bethlehem.	10 E morì, e fue sotterrato in Betleem.
11 After him, Elon of Zebulun was judge in Israel. He was judge in Israel for ten years.	11 Dopo il quale sì venne Aialon della schiatta di Zabulon; e giudicò (e resse) Israel X anni.
12 Elon of Zebulun then died and was buried at Aijalon in the territory of Zebulun.	12 E morì, e fue sotterrato in Zabulon.
13 After him, Abdon son of Hil el of Pirathon was judge in Israel.	13 E dopo costui (resse e) giudicò Israel Abdon, figliuolo di Illel, Faratonito;
14 He had forty sons and thirty grandsons who rode seventy young donkeys. He was judge in Israel foreight years.	14 il quale ebbe quaranta figliuoli e XXX di loro nepoti (ed ebbe nepoti), i quali tutti andavano sopra (e a cavallo) a LXX poledri figliuoli d' asine; e giudicò Israel otto anni.
15 Abdon son of Hil el of Pirathon then died and was buried at Pirathon in the territory of Ephraim, in theAmalekite highlands.	15 E morì, e fue sotterrato (e riposto) in Faraton della terra di Efraim, nel monte di Amalec.
