1 Thessalonians 5

1 About times and dates, brothers, there is no need to write to you	1 А про часи та пори не маєте, брати, потреби, щоб до вас писати.
2 for you are wel aware in any case that the Day of the Lord is going to come like a thief in the night.	2 Самі бо знаєте, що день Господній прийде, як злодій уночі.
3 It is when people are saying, 'How quiet and peaceful it is' that sudden destruction fal s on them, assuddenly as labour pains come on a pregnant woman; and there is no escape.	3 Саме, як говоритимуть: Мир і безпечність, — тоді зненацька злетить на них погибель, як біль на вагітну лоном, — і не уникнуть.
4 But you, brothers, do not live in the dark, that the Day should take you unawares like a thief.	4 Та ви, брати, не в темряві, щоб вас той день зненацька захопив, як злодій:
5 No, you are al children of light and children of the day: we do not belong to the night or to darkness,	5 бо всі ви — сини світла й сини дня. Ми не належимо ні ночі, ані темряві.
6 so we should not go on sleeping, as everyone else does, but stay wide awake and sober.	6 Не спімо, отже, як інші, а чуваймо та будьмо тверезі!
7 Night is the time for sleepers to sleep and night the time for drunkards to be drunk,	7 Ті бо, що сплять, сплять уночі, і ті, що впиваються, впиваються вночі.
8 but we belong to the day and we should be sober; let us put on faith and love for a breastplate, and thehope of salvation for a helmet.	8 Ми ж, які належимо дневі, будьмо тверезі, надягнувши броню віри та любови й шолом надії на спасіння.
9 God destined us not for his retribution, but to win salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ,	9 Бож призначив нас Бог не на гнів, а на те, щоб ми одержали спасіння через Господа нашого Ісуса Христа,
10 who died for us so that, awake or asleep, we should stil live united to him.	10 який умер за нас, щоб ми, чи чуваємо, чи спимо, разом з ним жили.
11 So give encouragement to each other, and keep strengthening one another, as you do already.	11 Тому втішайте один одного і будуйте один одного, як то ви й робите.
12 We appeal to you, my brothers, to be considerate to those who work so hard among you as yourleaders in the Lord and those who admonish you.	12 Прохаємо вас, брати: поважайте тих, які серед вас працюють і які над вами в Господі старшують та на розум вас наводять.
13 Have the greatest respect and affection for them because of their work. Be at peace amongyourselves.	13 Шануйте їх у надмірі любови за їхню працю. Живіть у мирі між собою.
14 We urge you, brothers, to admonish those who are undisciplined, encourage the apprehensive,support the weak and be patient with everyone.	14 Благаємо вас, брати: карайте ледачих, малодушних підбадьорюйте, підтримуйте безсилих, супроти всіх будьте терплячі.
15 Make sure that people do not try to repay evil for evil; always aim at what is best for each other and foreveryone.	15 Уважайте, щоб ніхто не віддавав нікому злом за зло, а старайтеся робити добро один одному і для всіх.
16 Always be joyful;	16 Завжди радійте.
17 pray constantly;	17 Моліться без перерви.
18 and for al things give thanks; this is the wil of God for you in Christ Jesus.	18 За все дякуйте: така бо воля Божа щодо вас у Христі Ісусі.
19 Do not stifle the Spirit	19 Духа не гасіте,
20 or despise the gift of prophecy with contempt;	20 пророцтва не легковажте,
21 test everything and hold on to what is good	21 усе перевіряйте; тримайте те, що добре,
22 and shun every form of evil.	22 і стримуйтесь від усякого роду лукавства.
23 May the God of peace make you perfect and holy; and may your spirit, life and body be keptblameless for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.	23 Сам же Бог миру нехай освятить вас цілковито, і нехай уся ваша істота — дух і душа, і тіло — буде збережена без плями на прихід Господа нашого Ісуса Христа.
24 He who has cal ed you is trustworthy and wil carry it out.	24 Вірний той, хто вас покликав, — він і здійснить це.
25 Pray for us, my brothers.	25 Брати, моліться і за нас!
26 Greet al the brothers with a holy kiss.	26 Вітайте всіх братів святим поцілунком.
27 My orders, in the Lord's name, are that this letter is to be read to al the brothers.	27 Заклинаю вас Господом прочитати цього листа всім братам.
