1 This is the text of the book written in Babylon by Baruch son of Neraiah, son of Mahseiah, son ofZedekiah, son of Hasadiah, son of Hilkiah,	1 E queste sono le parole dello libro, le quali scrisse Baruc, figliuolo di Neria, figliuolo di Maasia, figliuolo di Sedecia, figliuolo di Sedei, figliuolo di Elcia, in Babilonia,
2 in the fifth year, on the seventh day of the month, at the time when the Chaldaeans had capturedJerusalem and burned it down.	2 nello quinto anno, nel settimo dì del mese, nel tempo che li Caldei presono Ierusalem, e arserla al fuoco.
3 Baruch read the text of this book aloud to Jeconiah son of Jehoiakim, king of Judah, and to al thepeople who had come to hear the reading,	3 E Baruc leggeo la parola di questo libro alle orecchie di Ieconia, figliuolo di Ioachim, re di Giuda, e alle orecchie dello universo populo, che venìa allo libro;
4 to the nobles and the sons of the king, and to the elders; to the whole people, that is, to the least no lessthan to the greatest, to al who lived in Babylon beside the river Sud.	4 e alle orecchie de' potenti figliuoli delli re, e alle orecchie de' preti, e alle orecchie del populo, dal piccolo insino al grande, di tutti i loro abitanti in Babilonia, al fiume (che si chiama) Sodi.
5 On hearing it they wept, fasted and prayed before the Lord;	5 I quali udendo questo piagneano, e digiunavano, e oravano nel cospetto di Dio.
6 and they col ected as much money as each could afford	6 E ricolsono pecunia (nel cospetto di Dio) secondo quello che la mano di ciascuno poteo.
7 and sent it to Jerusalem to the priest Jehoiakim son of Hilkiah, son of Shallum, and the other priests,and all the people who were with him in Jerusalem.	7 E mandoronla in Ierusalem a Ioachim figliuolo d' Elcia, figliuolo di Salom, sacerdote, e alli sacerdoti, e a tutto il populo, i quali furono trovati con lui in Ierusalem;
8 Also on the tenth day of Sivan he was given the utensils of the house of the Lord, which had beenremoved from the Temple, to take them back to the land of Judah; these were silver utensils which Zedekiah sonof Josiah, king of Judah, had had made	8 conciosia cosa che togliessono li vasi del templo di Dio, i quali vasi erano stati tolti dal templo, a rivocarli nella terra di Giuda, lo decimo dì del mese di Sivan; vasi d'argento, i quali fece Sedecia, figliuolo di Iosia, re di Giuda,
9 after Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon had deported Jeconiah from Jerusalem to Babylon, together withthe princes, the metalworkers, the nobles and the common people.	9 poi che Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, prese Ieconia, e li suoi principi (e legati), e li potenti, e lo popolo della terra, di Ierusalem, e menolli legati in Babilonia.
10 Now, they wrote, we are sending you money to pay for burnt offerings, offerings for sin, and incense.Prepare oblations and offer them on the altar of the Lord our God;	10 E dissono: ecco noi avemo mandato a voi le pecunie, delle quali voi compariate sacrificio e incenso, e fate il Manna, e offerite per lo peccato all' altare del nostro Signore Iddio;
11 and pray for the long life of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and of his son Belshazzar, that they mayendure on earth as long as the heavens endure;	11 e pregate per la vita di Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, e per la vita di Baltassar, suo figliuolo, acciò che li loro dì sieno come li dì del cielo sopra la terra;
12 and that the Lord may give us strength and enlighten our eyes, so that we may lead our lives under theprotection of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon and of his son Belshazzar, and that we may serve them for a longtime and win their favour.	12 e acciò che Iddio ci dia virtù, e allumini li nostri occhi, e viviamo sotto l'ombra di Nabucodonosor, re di Babilonia, e sotto l'ombra di Baltassar, suo figliuolo, e serviamo a loro molto tempo, e che noi troviamo grazia nel conspetto loro.
13 Also pray to the Lord our God for us, because we have sinned against him, and the anger, the fury ofthe Lord, has still not turned away from us.	13 E anche preghiate il nostro Signore Iddio per noi medesimi; però che noi peccammo al nostro Signore Iddio, e non è rivolto lo suo furore da noi d'infino a questo dì.
14 Lastly, you must read the booklet which we are sending you, publicly in the house of the Lord on thefeastday and appropriate days.	14 E leggete questo libro, lo quale noi mandammo a voi, che si recitasse nel tempio di Dio, nel di solenne e nel di opportuno.
15 You must say: Saving justice is the Lord's, we have only the look of shame we bear, as is the casetoday for the people of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem,	15 E direte: al nostro Signore Iddio giustizia, e a noi confusione della nostra faccia, com' elli è a questo dì a tutto Giuda, e alli abitanti di Ierusalem,
16 for our kings and princes, our priests, our prophets, and for our ancestors,	16 alli nostri re, e nostri principi, e nostri sacerdoti, e nostri profeti, e nostri padri.
17 because we have sinned before the Lord,	17 Noi peccammo inanzi al nostro Signore Iddio, e diffidandoci non avemo creduto in lui.
18 have disobeyed him, and have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God tel ing us to follow thecommandments which the Lord had ordained for us.	18 E non li fummo suggetti, e non udimmo la voce del nostro Signore Iddio, per andare e fare li suoi comandamenti, e' quali egli ci diede.
19 From the day when the Lord brought our ancestors out of Egypt until today we have been disobedientto the Lord our God, we have been disloyal, refusing to listen to his voice.	19 Dal dì ch' egli menò li nostri padri dalla terra d'Egitto, infino a questo dì, noi eravamo tutti incredibili al nostro Signore Iddio; e dissipati ei partimmo, acciò che noi non udissimo la sua voce.
20 And we are not free even today of the disasters and the curse which the Lord pronounced through hisservant Moses the day he brought our ancestors out of Egypt to give us a land flowing with milk and honey.	20 E venneno a noi molti mali e maladizioni, le quali ordinò Iddio a Moisè suo servo, lo quale menò egli li nostri padri della terra d'Egitto, per dare a loro la terra che abbondava di latte e di miele, come fu al dì d' oggi.
21 We have not listened to the voice of the Lord our God in all the words of those prophets he sent us;	21 E non udimmo la voce del nostro Signore Iddio, secondo le parole di tutti i profeti li quali egli mandò a noi (e alli nostri padri, e alli nostri giudici).
22 but, each fol owing the dictates of our evil heart, we have taken to serving alien gods, and doing whatis displeasing to the Lord our God.	22 E ciascuno andò pure col senno del suo cuore maligno, e fummo operarii alli iddii strani, facendo male inanzi a Dio.
