Sirach 3

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Children, listen to me for I am your father: do what I tel you, and so be safe;	1 Figliuoli di sapienza son chiesa di giusti; e' discendenti di coloro, ubbidienza e dilezione.
2 for the Lord honours the father above his children and upholds the rights of a mother over her sons.	2 Figliuoli (diletti), udite la volontà del padre, e fate sì che voi siate salvi.
3 Whoever respects a father expiates sins,	3 Iddio onorò il padre nelli figliuoli; e udita la esaminazione e la volontade della madre, fermò ne' figliuoli.
4 whoever honours a mother is like someone amassing a fortune.	4 Chi ama Iddio, pregherà per li peccati suoi, e ritrarrassi da quelli, e sarà esaudito nella orazione de' dì.
5 Whoever respects a father will in turn be happy with children, the day he prays for help, he will be heard.	5 E sì come [chi] tesaurizza, così è colui che onora la madre sua.
6 Long life comes to anyone who honours a father, whoever obeys the Lord makes a mother happy.	6 Colui che onora il padre suo, si rallegrerà ne' suoi figliuoli, e nella orazione sarà esaudito.
7 Such a one serves parents as wel as the Lord.	7 Chi onora il padre suo, viverà per molto lunga vita; e chi ubbedirae il padre, refrigerae la madre.
8 Respect your father in deed as wel as word, so that blessing may come on you from him;	8 Chi teme Iddio, onora il padre e la madre, e quasi signori servirà coloro che lo generarono.
9 since a father's blessing makes his children's house firm, while a mother's curse tears up its foundations.	9 In opera e in detto e in ogni pazienza onora il padre tuo,
10 Do not make a boast of disgrace overtaking your father, your father's disgrace reflects no honour onyou;	10 acciò che sopra te vegna da Dio la benedizione, e nella fine stea ferma la sua benedizione.
11 for a person's own honour derives from the respect shown to his father, and a mother held in dishonouris a reproach to her children.	11 La benedizione del padre ferma le case dei figliuoli; la maledizione della madre disturba le fondamenta.
12 My child, support your father in his old age, do not grieve him during his life.	12 Non ti vanagloriare nella ingiuria (e nella villania) del padre tuo; però ch' ella non t' è gloria, ma confusione.
13 Even if his mind should fail, show him sympathy, do not despise him in your health and strength;	13 La gloria dell' uomo si è dello onore del padre suo, e il vituperio del figliuolo è il padre sanza onore.
14 for kindness to a father will not be forgotten but wil serve as reparation for your sins.	14 O figliuolo, ricevi la vecchiezza del padre tuo, e non lo contristare nella vita sua.
15 On your own day of ordeal God wil remember you: like frost in sunshine, your sins wil melt away.	15 E s' egli rinfanciullisce, passalo benignamente, e non lo spregiare nella tua forza; la limosina del padre non si dimenticherae.
16 Whoever deserts a father is no better than a blasphemer, and whoever distresses a mother is accursedof the Lord.	16 Per lo peccato della madre il bene ti sarà restituito.
17 My child, be gentle in carrying out your business, and you will be better loved than a lavish giver.	17 E in giustizia fia edificato a te, e nel die della tribulazione si ricorderae di te; e sì come nel tempo chiaro il ghiaccio si disfà, così si disfaranno li tuoi peccati.
18 The greater you are, the more humbly you should behave, and then you wil find favour with the Lord;	18 Com'è di mala fama colui che abbandona il padre, e da Dio è maledetto colui che cruccia la madre!
19	19 O figliuolo, compi l' opere tue in mansuetudine, e sarai amato sopra la fama degli uomini.
20 for great though the power of the Lord is, he accepts the homage of the humble.	20 Quanto più tu se' maggiore, più umilia te in tutte le cose; e troverai grazia dinanzi da Dio.
21 Do not try to understand things that are too difficult for you, or try to discover what is beyond yourpowers.	21 Però ch' è la grande potenza del solo Iddio, ed è onorato dalli umili.
22 Concentrate on what has been assigned you, you have no need to worry over mysteries.	22 Non cercherai cose più alte di te, e cose più forti di te non cercare; se alcune cose ti comanda Iddio, pensa quelle sempre, e in più opere non sarai sollecito.
23 Do not meddle with matters that are beyond you; what you have been taught already exceeds thescope of the human mind.	23 Non ti sono necessarie quelle cose, le quali sono nascose, di vedere agli occhi tuoi.
24 For many have been misled by their own notions, wicked presumption having warped their judgement.	24 In cose vane e di soperchio non cercare molto, e in più opere di quelle che comandò Iddio, non sarai curioso.
25	25 Molte cose sopra il sentimento degli uomini sono mostrate a te.
26 A stubborn heart wil come to a bad end, and whoever dal ies with danger wil perish in it.	26 La sospicione di quelli ne ingannò molti, e ritenne li sensi di coloro nella vanitade.
27 A stubborn heart is weighed down with troubles, the sinner heaps sin on sin.	27 Il cuore duro starà male nella fine; e chi ama i pericoli, in quelli perirà.
28 For the disease of the proud there is no cure, since an evil growth has taken root there.	28 Il (duro) cuore ch' entra per due vie, non averae i suoi intendimenti; e l'uomo che è di malvagio cuore si scandelizzerà in quelli.
29 The heart of the sensible wil reflect on parables, an attentive ear is the sage's dream.	29 Lo reo cuore si graverà nel dolore; e il peccatore aggiugnerae nel peccato.
30 Water puts out a blazing fire, almsgiving expiates sins.	30 Non è sanitade nella sinagoga de' superbi; lo spirito de' peccati si debarberae in quelli, e non fia inteso..
31 Whoever gives favours in return is mindful of the future; at the moment of falling, such a person wil findsupport.	31 Il cuore de' savi s' intende in sapienza; e l'orecchio buono ode con ogni desiderio la sapienza.
	32 Il cuore savio e intendente si ritrarrae dalli peccati; e averà felice avvenimento nelle opere della giustizia.
	33 L'acqua spegne l'ardente fuoco, e la limosina resiste alli peccati.
	34 E Iddio sì è difenditore di colui che rende grazia; ricordossi del passato, e nel tempo della sua tribulazione troverae fermamento.
