[For the choirmaster . . . Jeduthun Of Asaph Psalm] I cry to God in distress, I cry to God and he hearsme. | 1 For the leader; al Jeduthun. A psalm of Asaph. |
In the day of my distress I sought the Lord; al night I tirelessly stretched out my hands, my heartrefused to be consoled. | 2 I cry aloud to God, cry to God to hear me. |
I sigh as I think of God, my spirit faints away as I ponder on him. Pause | 3 On the day of my distress I seek the Lord; by night my hands are raised unceasingly; I refuse to be consoled. |
You kept me from closing my eyes, I was too distraught to speak; | 4 When I think of God, I groan; as I ponder, my spirit grows faint. Selah |
I thought of former times, years long past | 5 My eyes cannot close in sleep; I am troubled and cannot speak. |
I recalled; through the night I ponder in my heart, as I reflect, my spirit asks this question: | 6 I consider the days of old; the years long past |
Is the Lord's rejection final? Will he never show favour again? | 7 I remember. In the night I meditate in my heart; I ponder and my spirit broods: |
Is his faithful love gone for ever? Has his Word come to an end for al time? | 8 "Will the Lord reject us forever, never again show favor? |
Does God forget to show mercy? In anger does he shut off his tenderness?Pause | 9 Has God's love ceased forever? Has the promise failed for all ages? |
And I said, 'This is what wounds me, the right hand of the Most High has lost its strength.' | 10 Has God forgotten mercy, in anger withheld compassion?" Selah |
Remembering Yahweh's great deeds, remembering your wonders in the past, | 11 I conclude: "My sorrow is this, the right hand of the Most High has left us." |
I reflect on al that you did, I ponder all your great deeds. | 12 I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, your wonders of old I will remember. |
God, your ways are holy! What god is as great as our God? | 13 I will recite all your works; your exploits I will tell. |
You are the God who does marvel ous deeds, brought nations to acknowledge your power, | 14 Your way, O God, is holy; what god is as great as our God? |
with your own arm redeeming your people, the children of Jacob and Joseph.Pause | 15 You alone are the God who did wonders; among the peoples you revealed your might. |
When the waters saw you, God, when the waters saw you they writhed in anguish, the very depthsshook with fear. | 16 With your arm you redeemed your people, the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah |
The clouds pelted down water, the sky thundered, your arrows shot back and forth. | 17 The waters saw you, God; the waters saw you and lashed about, trembled even to their depths. |
The rol ing of your thunder was heard, your lightning-flashes lit up the world, the earth shuddered andshook. | 18 The clouds poured down their rains; the thunderheads rumbled; your arrows flashed back and forth. |
Your way led over the sea, your path over the countless waters, and none could trace your footsteps. | 19 The thunder of your chariot wheels resounded; your lightning lit up the world; the earth trembled and quaked. |
You guided your people like a flock by the hand of Moses and Aaron. | 20 Through the sea was your path; your way, through the mighty waters, though your footsteps were unseen. |
You led your people like a flock under the care of Moses and Aaron. |
