Job 38

NEW JERUSALEM	BIBBIA VOLGARE
1 Then from the heart of the tempest Yahweh gave Job his answer. He said:	1 Rispondendo lo Signore a Iob della caligine, disse:
2 Who is this, obscuring my intentions with his ignorant words?	2 Chi è questi, che involge le scienze nelli sermoni sanza documento?
3 Brace yourself like a fighter; I am going to ask the questions, and you are to inform me!	3 Cìgniti, sì come uomo, li tuoi lombi; io addomanderò a te; rispondi a me.
4 Where were you when I laid the earth's foundations? Tel me, since you are so wel -informed!	4 Dove eri, quando io poneva i fondamenti alla terra? Dimostralo a me, se hai intelligenza.
5 Who decided its dimensions, do you know? Or who stretched the measuring line across it?	5 Chi pose le misure sue, se l'hai conosciuto? ovvero chi tese sopra lei lo regolo?
6 What supports its pil ars at their bases? Who laid its cornerstone	6 Sopra quale cosa li piedi suoi sono fermati? Ovvero chi lasciò la pietra angolare sua,
7 to the joyful concert of the morning stars and unanimous acclaim of the sons of God?	7 conciosia cosa che me lodassero insieme le stelle mattutine, e rallegrassonsi tutti i figliuoli di Dio?
8 Who pent up the sea behind closed doors when it leapt tumultuous from the womb,	8 Chi rinchiuse cogli usci lo mare, quando rompea quasi dello ventre procedente,
9 when I wrapped it in a robe of mist and made black clouds its swaddling bands;	9 conciosia cosa ch' io ponessi lo nuvolo, suo vestimento, e involgessi quello d'oscuritade, quasi come de' panni della fanciullezza?
10 when I cut out the place I had decreed for it and imposed gates and a bolt?	10 Io lo circondai (e intorniai quello) coi miei termini, e posi la chiavicella e gli usci.
11 'Come so far,' I said, 'and no further; here your proud waves must break!'	11 E dissi: insino qui verrai, e non andarae più oltre, e qui ti romperai gonfiando le tue onde.
12 Have you ever in your life given orders to the morning or sent the dawn to its post,	12 Or da poi il tuo nascimento comandasti al diluculo, e mostrasti all' aurora il suo luogo?
13 to grasp the earth by its edges and shake the wicked out of it?	13 Or (non) tenesti percotendo le estremità della terra, e percotesti li malvagi di quella?
14 She turns it as red as a clay seal, she tints it as though it were a dress,	14 Sarà restituito sì come fango lo segnale : starà si come vestimento.
15 stealing the light from evil-doers and breaking the arm raised to strike.	15 Sarà tolta dai malvagi la loro luce, e lo braccio alto sarà constretto.
16 Have you been right down to the sources of the sea and walked about at the bottom of the Abyss?	16 Or andasti tu nello profondo del mare, e nelle parti ultime dello abisso andasti?
17 Have you been shown the gates of Death, have you seen the janitors of the Shadow dark as death?	17 Or sono aperte a te le porte della morte, e le uscia tenebrose vedesti?
18 Have you an inkling of the extent of the earth? Tell me al about it if you have!	18 E (non) hai considerato la larghezza della terra? Dimostra a me, se hai conosciuto ogni cosa,
19 Which is the way to the home of the Light, and where does darkness live? -	19 nella quale via abita la luce, e quale sia lo luogo delle tenebre,
20 You could then show them the way to their proper places, you could put them on the path homeagain!	20 acciò che tu meni ciascuno alli suoi termini, e intenda le vie della casa sua.
21 If you do know, you must have been born when they were, you must be very old by now!	21 Sapevi tu allora, quando tu dovessi nascere? e conoscevi lo numero de' tuoi giorni?
22 Have you visited the place where the snow is stored? Have you seen the stores of hail,	22 Or se' tu entrato ne' tesori della neve, ovvero li tesori della gragnuola riguardasti?
23 which I keep for times of distress, for days of battle and war?	23 Li quali apparecchiai nel tempo del nemico, nel dì della zuffa e della battaglia?
24 From which direction does the lightning fork, where in the world does the east wind blow itself out?	24 Per la qual via si sparge la luce, e dividesi lo caldo sopra la terra?
25 Who bores a channel for the downpour or clears the way for the rol ing thunder	25 Chi diede al grandissimo vento piovoso lo corso, e la via al sonante tuono,
26 so that rain may fal on lands where no one lives, and the deserts void of human dwel ing,	26 acciò che piovesse sopra la terra sanza l'uomo nel deserto, dove non ha casa alcuno delli mortali,
27 to meet the needs of the lonely wastes and make grass sprout on the thirsty ground?	27 acciò ch' ella empisse il luogo senza via, e il desolato luogo producesse l'erba virente?
28 Has the rain a father? Who begets the dewdrops?	28 Chi è padre della piova? ovvero chi generoe le cose stillate della rugiada?
29 What womb brings forth the ice, who gives birth to the frost of heaven,	29 Di quale ventre è venuto lo ghiaccio? e lo gelo del cielo, chi lo generoe?
30 when the waters grow hard as stone and the surface of the deep congeals?	30 Nella similitudine di pietra s' indurano l' acque, e la superficie dello abisso è constretta.
31 Can you fasten the harness of the Pleiades, or untie Orion's bands?	31 Or potrai tu congiugnere le risplendenti stelle Plejade, ovvero potrai guastare lo giro dell' Orsa? (cioè uno segno celeste lo quale è appo il polo settentrionale).
32 Can you guide the Crown season by season and show the Bear and its cubs which way to go?	32 Or produci tu lo splendore nel suo tempo, e la stella vespertina sopr' a' figliuoli della terra la fai tu levare?
33 Have you grasped the celestial laws? Could you make their writ run on the earth?	33 Or hai conosciuto l'ordine del cielo, e poni la sua ragione nella terra?
34 Can your voice carry as far as the clouds and make the pent-up waters do your bidding?	34 Or leverai fu nella nebula la tua voce, e lo impeto dell' acque coprirà te?
35 Will lightning flashes come at your command and answer, 'Here we are'?	35 Or manderai tu le saette, e anderanno, e con reverenza diranno a te: siamo presenti?
36 Who endowed the ibis with wisdom and gave the cock his intel igence?	36 Chi pose nelle budella dell' uomo la sapienza? ovvero chi diede al gallo la intelligenza?
37 Whose skil details every cloud and tilts the water-skins of heaven	37 Chi narrerà la ragione de' cieli, e lo canto e armonia del cielo chi farà dormire?
38 until the dust solidifies and the cracks in the ground close up?	38 Quando si fondava la polvere nella terra, e le sue parti s' ingrassavano?
39 Do you go hunting prey for the lioness; do you satisfy the hunger of young lions	39 Or piglierai tu alla lionessa la preda, e riempierai l'anima de' suoi figliuoli,
40 where they crouch in their den, waiting eagerly in the bushes?	40 quando giacciono nelle caverne, e guatano nelle spelonche?
41 Who makes provision for the raven when his little ones cry out to God craning their necks in search offood?	41 Chi apparecchia al corbo la sua esca, quando li suoi figliuoli gridano a Dio vaganti, perciò che non hanno li cibi?
