NEW JERUSALEM | VULGATA |
---|---|
Jotham was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. His mother's name was Jerushah daughter of Zadok. | 1 Viginti quinque annorum erat Joatham cum regnare cœpisset, et sedecim annis regnavit in Jerusalem : nomen matris ejus Jerusa filia Sadoc. |
He did what Yahweh regards as right, just as his father Uzziah had done. Only he did not enterYahweh's sanctuary. But the people continued to do wrong. |
It was he who built the Upper Gate of the Temple of Yahweh and carried out considerable work on thewal of the Ophel. | 3 Ipse ædificavit portam domus Domini excelsam, et in muro Ophel multa construxit. |
He also built towns in the highlands of Judah and built forts and towers in the wooded areas. | 4 Urbes quoque ædificavit in montibus Juda, et in saltibus castella et turres. |
He also went to war against the king of the Ammonites and defeated them; and the Ammonites had togive him a hundred talents of silver, ten thousand kor of wheat and ten thousand of barley that year. And theAmmonites paid him the same amount, the second and third years afterwards. | 5 Ipse pugnavit contra regem filiorum Ammon, et vicit eos, dederuntque ei filii Ammon in tempore illo centum talenta argenti, et decem millia coros tritici, ac totidem coros hordei : hæc ei præbuerunt filii Ammon in anno secundo et tertio. |
Jotham became powerful because he kept an unswerving course before Yahweh his God. |
The rest of the history of Jotham, al his wars and his policy, are recorded in the Book of the Kings ofIsrael and Judah. |
He was twenty-five years old when he came to the throne and he reigned for sixteen years inJerusalem. |
Then Jotham fel asleep with his ancestors, and was buried in the City of David; his son Ahazsucceeded him. |
