1 The heads of the ancestral houses in the clan of descendants of Gilead, son of Machir, son of Manasseh-one of the Josephite clans-came up and laid this plea before Moses and the priest Eleazar and before the princes who were the heads of the ancestral houses of the other Israelites.	1 Les chefs de famille du clan de Galaad, fils de Makir, fils de Manassé, l’un des clans de Joseph, s’approchèrent et dirent à Moïse et à tous les chefs des familles Israélites:
2 They said: "The LORD commanded you, my lord, to apportion the land by lot among the Israelites; and you, my lord, were also commanded by the LORD to give the heritage of our kinsman Zelophehad to his daughters.	2 “Yahvé a donné l’ordre à mon seigneur de partager le pays par le sort pour le distribuer entre les Israélites. Mon seigneur a aussi reçu de Yahvé l’ordre de donner l’héritage de Séloféhad, notre frère, à ses filles.
3 But if they marry into one of the other Israelite tribes, their heritage will be withdrawn from our ancestral heritage and will be added to that of the tribe into which they marry; thus the heritage that fell to us by lot will be diminished.	3 Mais si elles se marient avec un homme d’une autre tribu Israélite, leur héritage sera retranché de l’héritage de nos pères et s’ajoutera à l’héritage de la tribu dont elles feront désormais partie. Cet héritage sera donc retranché de notre lot.
4 When the Israelites celebrate the jubilee year, the heritage of these women will be permanently added to that of the tribe into which they marry and will be withdrawn from that of our ancestral tribe."	4 Quand viendra le Jubilé pour les Israélites, leur héritage sera ajouté à celui de la tribu dont elles font désormais partie et leur héritage sera retranché de celui de la tribu de nos pères.”
5 So Moses gave this regulation to the Israelites according to the instructions of the LORD: "The tribe of the Josephites are right in what they say.	5 Moïse donna donc cet ordre aux Israélites, selon la volonté de Yahvé. Il dit: “La tribu des fils de Joseph a bien parlé.
6 This is what the LORD commands with regard to the daughters of Zelophehad: They may marry anyone they please, provided they marry into a clan of their ancestral tribe,	6 Voici ce que Yahvé ordonne à propos des filles de Séloféhad. Elles se marieront avec qui elles voudront, à condition qu’en se mariant elles restent dans une famille de la tribu de leur père.
7 so that no heritage of the Israelites will pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelites will retain their own ancestral heritage.	7 Ainsi l’héritage des Israélites ne passera pas d’une tribu à l’autre. Chaque Israélite restera ainsi lié à l’héritage de la tribu de son père.
8 Therefore, every daughter who inherits property in any of the Israelite tribes shall marry someone belonging to a clan of her own ancestral tribe, in order that all the Israelites may remain in possession of their own ancestral heritage.	8 “Toute fille qui possède un héritage, dans quelque tribu d’Israël que ce soit, se mariera avec un homme appartenant à la tribu de son père. Ainsi les Israélites conserveront chacun l’héritage de leur père.
9 Thus, no heritage can pass from one tribe to another, but all the Israelite tribes will retain their own ancestral heritage."	9 Aucun héritage ne passera d’une tribu à l’autre; chacune des tribus israélites restera liée à son héritage.”
10 The daughters of Zelophehad obeyed the command which the LORD had given to Moses.	10 Les filles de Séloféhad firent donc comme Yahvé l’avait ordonné à Moïse.
11 Mahlah, Tirzah, Hoglah, Milcah and Noah, Zelophehad's daughters, married relatives on their father's side	11 Mala, Tirsa, Hogla, Milka et Noa, les filles de Séloféhad, se marièrent avec des hommes de leur parenté.
12 within the clans of the descendants of Manasseh, son of Joseph; hence their heritage remained in the tribe of their father's clan.	12 Elles se marièrent dans les familles des fils de Manassé, fils de Joseph; ainsi leur héritage resta dans la tribu de la famille de leur père.
13 These are the commandments and decisions which the LORD prescribed for the Israelites through Moses, on the plains of Moab beside the Jericho stretch of the Jordan.	13 Voilà les ordonnances et les lois que Yahvé donna par Moïse aux Israélites dans les Steppes-de-Moab, près du Jourdain en face de Jéricho.
