1 How tarnished is the gold, how changed the noble metal; How the sacred stones lie strewn at every street corner!	1 Alef A qual modo egli è mutato l'auro, mutato è il colore suo, si sono disperse le pietre del santuario nel capo di tutte le piazze?
2 Zion's precious sons, fine gold their counterpart, Now worth no more than earthen jars made by the hands of a potter!	2 Bet Come sono reputati li (generosi e) incliti figliuoli di Sion, vestiti del primo auro, in vasi di terra, opera della mano del figulo?
3 Even the jackals bare their breasts and suckle their young; The daughter of my people has become as cruel as the ostrich in the desert.	3 Ghimel Ma le lamie sono scoperte, le mammelle hanno lattato li suoi cagnoli. (Lamie, come dicono le fabule, sono mostri che straziano li fanciulli, ovvero figliuoli, e poscia li restituiscono morti, e hanno la faccia di uomo e il corpo di bestia; e dicesi che sono più crudeli a' loro figliuoli, che tutte l'altre bestie). 4 The tongue of the suckling cleaves to the roof of its mouth in thirst; The babes cry for food, but there is no one to give it to them.	4 Dalet Accostossi la lingua del lattante per la sete al suo palato; addomandorono li piccolini il pane, e non v'era cui a loro il rompesse.
5 Those accustomed to dainty food perish in the streets; Those brought up in purple now cling to the ash heaps.	5 He Perirono nelle vie quelli che usavano con diletto li cibi; si sono abbracciati nelle immondizie quelli si nutricavano nelle cune.
6 The punishment of the daughter of my people is greater than the penalty of Sodom, Which was overthrown in an instant without the turning of a hand.	6 Vau Fatta è maggiore la iniquità della figliuola del mio populo, del peccato di Sodoma, la quale è sommersa in un momento, e le mani non la pigliorono.
7 Brighter than snow were her princes, whiter than milk, More ruddy than coral, more precious than sapphire.	7 Zain Li suoi Nazarei (che sono li consacrati al Signore) furono più bianchi della neve, più splendidi del latte, più rubicondi del dente dell' elefante antiquo, più belli del saffiro.

9 Better for those who perish by the sword than for those who die of hunger, Who waste away, as though pierced through, lacking the fruits of the field!	9 Tet Fue meglio alli uccisi di coltello, che alli ammazzati per fame; imperò che questi, consumati per la sterilità della terra, putrirono.
10 The hands of compassionate women boiled their own children, To serve them as mourners' food in the downfall of the daughter of my people.	10 Iod Cossero le mani delle misericordiose femine li suoi figliuoli; si sono fatti a quelle cibo nella contrizione della figliuola del mio populo.
11 The LORD has spent his anger, poured out his blazing wrath; He has kindled a fire in Zion that has consumed her foundations.	11 Caf Compiè il Signore il furore suo, sparse l' ira del suo isdegno; e abbruciò in Sion con il fuoco, e divorò le sua fundamenta.
12 The kings of the earth did not believe, nor any of the world's inhabitants, That enemy or foe could enter the gates of Jerusalem.	12 Lamed Non credettero li re della terra, e li universi abitatori del mondo, imperò che entrava l'oste e l'inimico per le porte di Ierusalem,
13 Because of the sins of her prophets and the crimes of her priests, Who shed in her midst the blood of the just!--	13 Mem per li peccati delli suoi profeti, e per le iniquità de' suoi sacerdoti, i quali nel suo mezzo sparsero il sangue de' giusti.
14 They staggered blindly in the streets, soiled with blood, So that people could not touch even their garments:	14 Nun Errorono li ciechi nelle piazze, sonosi maculati con lo sangue; e quando non potevano, tenettero le sue stracciate vestimenta.
15 "Away you unclean!" they cried to them, "Away, away, do not draw near!" If they left and wandered among the nations, nowhere could they remain.	15 Samec Gridorono a loro: partitevi tutti, o corrotti; partitevi, e andate, e non vogliate toccare; hanno fatto contenzione tutti, e commossi dissero: più non giungerà (fra la gente) chi abiti in essi.
16 The LORD himself has dispersed them, he regards them no more; He does not receive the priests with favor, nor show kindness to the elders.	16 Fe Halli divisi la faccia del Signore; egli non aggiungerà acciò li guardi; non si sono vergognate le faccie de' sacerdoti, e (quelle) de' vecchi non hanno avuto misericordia.
17 Our eyes ever wasted away, looking in vain for aid; From our watchtower we watched for a nation that could not save us.	17 Ain Quando ancora ci mantenevamo, vennero a meno gli occhi nostri al nostro vano aiuto, quando riguardavamo attenti alla gente la quale non ci poteva salvare.
18 Men dogged our steps so that we could not walk in our streets; Our end drew near, and came; our time had expired.	18 Sade Le nostre strade si sono fatte lasse nel cammino delle nostre piazze; èssi appressato il fine nostro; finiti sono li nostri giorni, imperò ch' egli è venuto il nostro fine.
19 Our pursuers were swifter than eagles in the air, They harassed us on the mountains and waylaid us in the desert.	19 Cof Sono stati più veloci li nostri persecutori delle aquile del cielo; ci hanno perseguitati sopra li monti; ne hanno poste le insidie nel deserto.
20 The anointed one of the LORD, our breath of life, was caught in their snares, He in whose shadow we thought we could live on among the nations.	20 Res Nelli nostri peccati egli è pigliato il Signore Cristo, spirito della nostra bocca, al quale noi dicessimo: viveremo nelle genti nell' ombra tua.
21 Though you rejoice and are glad, O daughter Edom, you who dwell in the land of Uz, To you also shall the cup be passed; you shall become drunk and naked.	21 Sin Godi, e rallègrati, figliuola di Edom, la quale abiti nella terra di Us; a te etiam perverrà il calice; ti inebrierai, e sarai nudata.
22 Your chastisement is completed, O daughter Zion, he will not prolong your exile; But your wickedness, O daughter Edom, he will punish, he will lay bare your sins.	22 Tau Finita è la tua iniquità, figliuola di Sion; più non aggiungerà, che ti transmigri; figliuola di Edom, egli visiterà la tua iniquità, discoprirà le tue peccata.
