Isaiah 40

1 Comfort, give comfort to my people, says your God.	1 Утіште, утіште народ мій, каже ваш Бог.
2 Speak tenderly to Jerusalem, and proclaim to her that her service is at an end, her guilt is expiated; Indeed, she has received from the hand of the LORD double for all her sins.	2 Промовляйте Єрусалимові до серця й вістіть йому, що скінчилась його служба, спокутувано його несправедливість, бо він прийняв з руки Господньої удвоє за всі його злочини!
3 A voice cries out: In the desert prepare the way of the LORD! Make straight in the wasteland a highway for our God!	3 Голос чути: — Стеліть Господові дорогу у пустині, рівняйте в степу шлях нашому Богові!
4 Every valley shall be filled in, every mountain and hill shall be made low; The rugged land shall be made a plain, the rough country, a broad valley.	4 Нехай кожна долина заповниться, кожна гора й пагорб нехай знизиться! Нехай провалля стануть рівниною, а прикрі кручі — низиною!
5 Then the glory of the LORD shall be revealed, and all mankind shall see it together; for the mouth of the LORD has spoken.	5 Тоді слава Господня з’явиться, і всі творіння узрять її разом, бо так прорекли уста Господні.
6 One man helps another, one says to the other, "Keep on!"	6 Голос велить: — Вісти! — Я ж сказав: — Що вістити? — Всяке тіло — трава, і вся його краса — мов квітка в полі.
7 The craftsman encourages the goldsmith, the one who beats with the hammer, him who strikes on the anvil; He says the soldering is good, and he fastens it with nails to steady it.	7 Висхне трава, зів’яне квітка, як подих Господній на неї подує. Так, народ — трава!
8 Though the grass withers and the flower wilts, the word of our God stands forever."	8 Висхне трава, зів’яне квітка; а слово Бога нашого стоятиме повіки.
9 Go up onto a high mountain, Zion, herald of glad tidings; Cry out at the top of your voice, Jerusalem, herald of good news! Fear not to cry out and say to the cities of Judah: Here is your God!	9 Зійди на гору, на високу, ти, що несеш Сіонові веселі вісті! Підніми сильно голос, ти, що несеш Єрусалимові веселі вісті! Підніми голос, не бійся! Скажи містам Юдеї: «Ось Бог ваш!
10 Here comes with power the Lord GOD, who rules by his strong arm; Here is his reward with him, his recompense before him.	10 Ось Господь Бог іде в потузі, раменом своїм панує. Ось нагорода його з ним, заплата його перед обличчям у нього.
11 Like a shepherd he feeds his flock; in his arms he gathers the lambs, Carrying them in his bosom, and leading the ewes with care.	11 Немов пастух, пастиме своє стадо, рукою власною збере їх, ягнят носитиме на грудях, дійних лагідно водитиме.»
12 Who has cupped in his hand the waters of the sea, and marked off the heavens with a span? Who has held in a measure the dust of the earth, weighed the mountains in scales and the hills in a balance?	12 Хто зміряв коли пригорщею у морі воду або небеса зміряв п’яддю, зібрав у мірку земний порох, важив на вазі гори чи пагорби на терезах?
13 Who has directed the spirit of the LORD, or has instructed him as his counselor?	13 Хто збагнув дух Господній, був його дорадником, учив його?
14 Whom did he consult to gain knowledge? Who taught him the path of judgment, or showed him the way of understanding?	14 З ким він радиться? Хто його напоумлює на розум, вказує стежку правди, його знання навчає, дороги мудрости йому вказує?
15 Behold, the nations count as a drop in the bucket, as dust on the scales; the coastlands weigh no more than powder.	15 Народи в нього — неначе з відра крапля; вони не більш, ніж на вазі пилинка. Острови в нього, як порошинка, важать.
16 Lebanon would not suffice for fuel, nor its animals be enough for holocausts.	16 Не вистачить Ливану на вогнище; тварин його не вистачить на всепальну жертву.
17 Before him all the nations are as nought, as nothing and void he accounts them.	17 Усі народи перед ним — ніщо: вони в нього менші від ніщоти й порожняви.
18 To whom can you liken God? With what equal can you confront him?	18 Кому ви хочете уподобити Бога? Який образ йому надати?
19 An idol, cast by a craftsman, which the smith plates with gold and fits with silver chains?	19 Мистець виливає образ кумира, що золотар золотом покриває й срібні ланцюжки чіпляє;
20 Mulberry wood, the choice portion which a skilled craftsman picks out for himself, Choosing timber that will not rot, to set up an idol that will not be unsteady?	20 а хто на такий принос не спроможний, вибирає дерево негниюче, вишукує мистця-умільця, щоб поставити непорушне божище.
21 Do you not know? Have you not heard? Was it not foretold you from the beginning? Have you not understood? Since the earth was founded	21 Чи ви ж не знаєте, чи ви не чували? Чи ж вам не сказано від початку? Чи ви ж не зрозуміли вже від заснування світу?
22 He sits enthroned above the vault of the earth, and its inhabitants are like grasshoppers; He stretches out the heavens like a veil, spreads them out like a tent to dwell in.	22 Це він — той, що над земним кругом возсідає; і мешканці його, мов сарана для нього. Він простирає небо, як намітку, він розпинає його, мов намет на житло.
23 He brings princes to nought and makes the rulers of the earth as nothing.	23 Він князів на ніщо обертає, а земні судді для нього — порожнеча.
24 Scarcely are they planted or sown, scarcely is their stem rooted in the earth, When he breathes upon them and they wither, and the stormwind carries them away like straw.	24 Ледве посаджено їх, ледве посіяно, ледь їх пень у землі вкорінився, а він дихнув на них, і вони сохнуть, і буревій несе їх, мов солому.
25 To whom can you liken me as an equal? says the Holy One.	25 Кому ж ви хочете мене вподобити, щоб я був йому подібний? — каже Святий.
26 Lift up your eyes on high and see who has created these: He leads out their army and numbers them, calling them all by name. By his great might and the strength of his power not one of them is missing!	26 Підійміть угору ваші очі й подивіться! Хто створив усе це? Той, хто виводить військо їх за лічбою і кличе усіх їх на ім’я. Сила його така велика й міць така потужна, що ні одного не бракує.
27 Why, O Jacob, do you say, and declare, O Israel, "My way is hidden from the LORD, and my right is disregarded by my God"?	27 Як же це ти, Якове, говориш як, Ізраїлю, кажеш: «Доля моя від Господа закрита, право моє забув мій Бог?»
28 Do you not know or have you not heard? The LORD is the eternal God, creator of the ends of the earth. He does not faint nor grow weary, and his knowledge is beyond scrutiny.	28 Чи ти ж не знаєш, чи ти не чував? Господь — Бог вічний, творець кінців землі: він не втомлюється, не знемагається, розум його недослідимий.
29 He gives strength to the fainting; for the weak he makes vigor abound.	29 Він дає змореному силу, він знеможеному додає міць.
30 Though young men faint and grow weary, and youths stagger and fall,	30 Навіть і молодь утомлюється, знемагає, і юнаки-вояки підупадають, —
31 They that hope in the LORD will renew their strength, they will soar as with eagles' wings; They will run and not grow weary, walk and not grow faint.	31 ті ж, що на Господа вповають, відновлюють сили, немов орел, здіймають крила, біжать, не знають утоми, ідуть уперед, не знемагають.
