Isaiah 34

1 Come near, O nations, and hear; be attentive, O peoples! Let the earth and what fills it listen, the world and all it produces.	1 Avvicinatevi, popoli, per udire, e voi, nazioni, prestate ascolto; ascolti la terra e quanti vi abitano, il mondo e quanto produce!
2 The LORD is angry with all the nations and is wrathful against all their host; he has doomed them and given them over to slaughter.	2 Poiché il Signore è adirato contro tutti i popoli ed è sdegnato contro tutti i loro eserciti; li ha votati allo sterminio, li ha destinati al massacro.
3 Their slain shall be cast out, their corpses shall send up a stench; The mountains shall run with their blood,	3 I loro uccisi sono gettati via, si diffonde il fetore dei loro cadaveri; grondano i monti del loro sangue.
4 and all the hills shall rot; The heavens shall be rolled up like a scroll, and all their host shall wither away, As the leaf wilts on the vine, or as the fig withers on the tree.	4 Tutta la milizia celeste si dissolve, i cieli si arrotolano come un libro, tutti i loro astri cadono come cade il pampino della vite, come le foglie avvizzite del fico.
5 When my sword has drunk its fill in the heavens, lo, it shall come down in judgment upon Edom, a people I have doomed.	5 Poiché nel cielo si è inebriata la spada del Signore, ecco essa si abbatte su Edom, su un popolo che egli ha votato allo sterminio per fare giustizia.
6 The LORD has a sword filled with blood, greasy with fat, With the blood of lambs and goats, with the fat of rams' kidneys; For the LORD has a sacrifice in Bozrah, a great slaughter in the land of Edom.	6 La spada del Signore è piena di sangue, è imbrattata di grasso, del sangue di agnelli e di capri, delle viscere grasse dei montoni, perché si compie un sacrificio al Signore in Bozra, una grande ecatombe nel paese di Edom.
7 Wild oxen shall be struck down with fatlings, and bullocks with bulls; Their land shall be soaked with blood, and their earth greasy with fat.	7 Cadono bisonti insieme con essi, giovenchi insieme con tori. La loro terra si imbeve di sangue, la polvere si impingua di grasso.
8 For the LORD has a day of vengeance, a year of requital by Zion's defender.	8 Poiché è il giorno della vendetta del Signore, l'anno della retribuzione per l'avversario di Sion.
9 Edom's streams shall be changed into pitch and her earth into sulphur, and her land shall become burning pitch;	9 I torrenti di quel paese si cambieranno in pece, la sua polvere in zolfo, la sua terra diventerà pece ardente.
10 Night and day it shall not be quenched, its smoke shall rise forever. From generation to generation she shall lie waste, never again shall anyone pass through her.	10 Non si spegnerà né di giorno né di notte, sempre salirà il suo fumo; per tutte le generazioni resterà deserta, mai più alcuno vi passerà.
11 But the desert owl and hoot owl shall possess her, the screech owl and raven shall dwell in her. The LORD will measure her with line and plummet to be an empty waste for satyrs to dwell in.	11 Ne prenderanno possesso il pellicano e il riccio, il gufo e il corvo vi faranno dimora. Il Signore stenderà su di essa la corda della solitudine e la livella del vuoto.
12 Her nobles shall be no more, nor shall kings be proclaimed there; all her princes are gone.	12 Non ci saranno più i suoi nobili, non si proclameranno più re, tutti i suoi capi saranno ridotti a nulla.
13 Her castles shall be overgrown with thorns, her fortresses with thistles and briers. She shall become an abode for jackals and a haunt for ostriches.	13 Nei suoi palazzi saliranno le spine, ortiche e cardi sulle sue fortezze; diventerà una tana di sciacalli, un recinto per gli struzzi.
14 Wildcats shall meet with desert beasts, satyrs shall call to one another; There shall the lilith repose, and find for herself a place to rest.	14 Gatti selvatici si incontreranno con iene, i satiri si chiameranno l'un l'altro; vi faranno sosta anche le civette e vi troveranno tranquilla dimora.
15 There the hoot owl shall nest and lay eggs, hatch them out and gather them in her shadow; There shall the kites assemble, none shall be missing its mate.	15 Vi si anniderà il serpente saettone, vi deporrà le uova, le farà dischiudere e raccoglierà i piccoli alla sua ombra; vi si raduneranno anche gli sparvieri, l'uno in cerca dell'altro;
16 Look in the book of the LORD and read: No one of these shall be lacking, For the mouth of the LORD has ordered it, and his spirit shall gather them there.
17 It is he who casts the lot for them, and with his hands he marks off their shares of her; They shall possess her forever, and dwell there from generation to generation.	17 Egli ha distribuito loro la parte in sorte, la sua mano ha diviso loro il paese con tutta esattezza, lo possederanno per sempre, lo abiteranno di generazione in generazione.
