1 A mild answer calms wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger.	1 Una risposta gentile allontana la collera, una parola pungente fa crescere l'ira.
2 The tongue of the wise pours out knowledge, but the mouth of fools spurts forth folly.	2 La lingua dei saggi produce la scienza, la bocca degli stolti produce stoltezza.
3 The eyes of the LORD are in every place, keeping watch on the evil and the good.	3 Gli occhi del Signore sono in ogni luogo per osservare buoni e cattivi.
4 A soothing tongue is a tree of life, but a perverse one crushes the spirit.	4 Una lingua benevola è un albero di vita, una lingua perversa distrugge lo spirito.
5 The fool spurns his father's admonition, but prudent is he who heeds reproof.	5 Lo stolto disprezza la correzione di suo padre, chi apprezza il rimprovero è saggio.
6 In the house of the just there are ample resources, but the earnings of the wicked are in turmoil.	6 Nella casa del giusto c'è molta ricchezza, nei proventi dell'empio c'è insicurezza.
7 The lips of the wise disseminate knowledge, but the heart of fools is perverted.	7 Le labbra del giusto diffondono la scienza, ma non così il cuore degli stolti.
8 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but the prayer of the upright is his delight.	8 Il sacrificio degli empi è abominio al Signore, della preghiera dei retti egli si compiace.
9 The way of the wicked is an abomination to the LORD, but he loves the man who pursues virtue.	9 Obbrobrio per il Signore è la via del peccatore, egli ama chi cerca la giustizia.
10 Severe punishment is in store for the man who goes astray; he who hates reproof will die.	10 Correzione severa a chi abbandona il sentiero, chi odia il rimprovero, muore.
11 The nether world and the abyss lie open before the LORD; how much more the hearts of men!	11 Inferi e abisso sono davanti al Signore, quanto più i cuori degli uomini!
12 The senseless man loves not to be reproved; to wise men he will not go.	12 L'insolente non ama chi lo ammonisce, egli non vuol frequentare i sapienti.
13 A glad heart lights up the face, but by mental anguish the spirit is broken.	13 Un cuore gioioso distende la faccia, nella tristezza del cuore si deprime lo spirito.
14 The mind of the intelligent man seeks knowledge, but the mouth of fools feeds on folly.	14 Un cuore intelligente cerca la scienza, la bocca degli stolti si pasce di stoltezza.
15 Every day is miserable for the depressed, but a lighthearted man has a continual feast.	15 Tutti i giorni del misero sono cattivi, per un cuore contento è sempre una festa.
16 Better a little with fear of the LORD than a great fortune with anxiety.	16 Un po' di felicità nel timore del Signore val più di un grande tesoro con l'inquietudine.
17 Better a dish of herbs where love is than a fatted ox and hatred with it.	17 Val più una porzione di legumi dove c'è amore che un bue grasso dove c'è l'odio.
18 An ill-tempered man stirs up strife, but a patient man allays discord.	18 Un uomo irascibile suscita contese, l'uomo paziente smorza le liti.
19 The way of the sluggard is hemmed in as with thorns, but the path of the diligent is a highway.	19 La strada del pigro è come una siepe spinosa, il sentiero dei retti invece è scorrevole.
20 A wise son makes his father glad, but a fool of a man despises his mother.	20 Un figlio sapiente allieta il padre, l'uomo stolto disprezza sua madre.
21 Folly is joy to the senseless man, but the man of understanding goes the straight way.	21 La stoltezza allieta chi è privo di senno, chi è intelligente va dritto per la sua strada.
22 Plans fail when there is no counsel, but they succeed when counselors are many.	22 I progetti vanno all'aria per mancanza di discussione, si realizzano quando molti discutono.
23 There is joy for a man in his utterance; a word in season, how good it is!	23 E' una gioia per l'uomo una risposta della sua bocca; una parola a suo tempo com'è deliziosa!
24 The path of life leads the prudent man upward, that he may avoid the nether world below.	24 C'è un sentiero di vita, in alto, per il saggio, perché si allontani dagli inferi in basso.
25 The LORD overturns the house of the proud, but he preserves intact the widow's landmark.	25 Il Signore abbatte la casa dei superbi, consolida invece il confine della vedova.
26 The wicked man's schemes are an abomination to the LORD, but the pure speak what is pleasing to him.	26 Il Signore detesta i disegni malvagi, invece sono pure le parole benevole.
27 He who is greedy of gain brings ruin on his own house, but he who hates bribes will live.	27 Sconvolge la sua casa chi ammassa rapine, chi disprezza i regali avrà la vita.
28 The just man weighs well his utterance, but the mouth of the wicked pours out evil.	28 Il cuore del giusto riflette alle sue risposte, la bocca degli empi vomita malvagità.
29 The LORD is far from the wicked, but the prayer of the just he hears.	29 Il Signore sta lontano dagli empi, ascolta invece la preghiera dei giusti.
30 A cheerful glance brings joy to the heart; good news invigorates the bones.	30 Uno sguardo lucente dà gioia al cuore, una buona notizia ingrassa le ossa.
31 He who listens to salutary reproof will abide among the wise.	31 L'orecchio che ascolta l'ammonizione di vita avrà dimora in mezzo ai sapienti.
32 He who rejects admonition despises his own soul, but he who heeds reproof gains understanding.	32 Chi rigetta la correzione disprezza se stesso, ma chi ascolta il rimprovero acquista senno.
33 The fear of the LORD is training for wisdom, and humility goes before honors.	33 Il timore del Signore è saggia disciplina e prima della gloria c'è l'umiltà.
