A song of ascents. Like Mount Zion are they who trust in the LORD, unshakable, forever enduring. | 1 A Canticle in steps. When the Lord turned back the captivity of Zion, we became like those who are consoled. |
As mountains surround Jerusalem, the LORD surrounds his people both now and forever. | 2 Then our mouth was filled with gladness and our tongue with exultation. Then they will say among the nations: “The Lord has done great things for them.” |
The scepter of the wicked will not prevail in the land given to the just, Lest the just themselves turn their hands to evil. | 3 The Lord has done great things for us. We have become joyful. |
Do good, LORD, to the good, to those who are upright of heart. | 4 Convert our captivity, O Lord, like a torrent in the south. |
But those who turn aside to crooked ways may the LORD send down with the wicked. Peace upon Israel! | 5 Those who sow in tears shall reap in exultation. |
When departing, they went forth and wept, sowing their seeds. | |
But when returning, they will arrive with exultation, carrying their sheaves. |
