1 All the people of Judah chose Uzziah, though he was but sixteen years of age, and proclaimed him king to succeed his father Amaziah.	1 - Tutto il popolo di Giuda allora costituì re, invece del padre Amasia, il figliuolo di lui Ozia di anni sedici,
2 He rebuilt Elath and restored it to Judah; this was after King Amaziah had gone to rest with his ancestors.	2 il quale edificò Ailat e la restituì al dominio di Giuda, dopo che il re si fu addormentato coi padri suoi.
3 Uzziah was sixteen years old when he became king, and he reigned fifty-two years in Jerusalem. His mother, named Jecoliah, was from Jerusalem.	3 Ozia aveva sedici anni, quando cominciò a regnare e ne regnò cinquantadue in Gerusalemme. Ebbe per madre, Jechelia di Gerusalemme.

6 He went out and fought the Philistines and razed the walls of Gath, Jabneh and Ashdod (and built cities in the district of Ashdod and in Philistia).	6 Da ultimo uscì a combattere contro i Filistei e demolì le mura di Get, di Jabnia e di Azoto e fabbricò castelli in Azoto e tra i Filistei.
7 God helped him against the Philistines, against the Arabs who dwelt in Gurbaal, and against the Meunites.	7 Dio lo aiutò contro i Filistei, contro gli Arabi abitanti di Gurbaal e contro gli Ammoniti.
8 The Ammonites paid tribute to Uzziah and his fame spread as far as Egypt, for he grew stronger and stronger.	8 Gli Ammoniti offrivano doni a Ozia e la fama di lui giunse fino ai confini d'Egitto, a cagione delle sue frequenti vittorie.
9 Moreover, Uzziah built towers in Jerusalem at the Corner Gate, at the Valley Gate, and at the Angle, and he fortified them.	9 Ozia edificò torri in Gerusalemme sulla porta dell'angolo, sulla porta della valle ed altre sullo stesso fianco delle mure e le fortificò.
10 He built towers in the desert and dug numerous cisterns, for he had many cattle. He had plowmen in the foothills and the plains, and vinedressers in the highlands and the garden land. He was a lover of the soil.	10 Costruì anche torri nel deserto e scavò cisterne in gran numero, avendo egli molte pecore sia nella pianura che nella vastità del deserto. Ebbe anche delle vigne e dei vignaiuoli tra i monti e al Carmelo; poichè egli era uomo dato all'agricoltura.
11 Uzziah also had a standing army of fit soldiers divided into bands according to the number in which they were mustered by Jeiel the scribe and Maaseiah the recorder, under the command of Hananiah, one of the king's officials.	11 L'esercito de' suoi combattenti, che andavano alla guerra, era comandato dallo scriba Jeiel, da Maasia dottore, e da Anania, uno dei capitani del re.
12 The entire number of family heads over these valiant warriors was two thousand six hundred,	12 In tutto, il numero dei principi delle famiglie degli uomini valorosi era di duemilaseicento;
13 and at their disposal was a mighty army of three hundred seven thousand five hundred fighting men of great valor to help the king against his enemies.	13 essi comandavano tutto l'esercito di trecentosettemilacinquecento uomini atti alla guerra e a combattere gli avversari del re.
14 Uzziah provided for them--for the entire army--bucklers, lances, helmets, breastplates, bows and slingstones.	14 Ozia preparò a costoro, cioè per tutto l'esercito, scudi, aste, cimieri, corazze, archi e fionde per scagliare sassi
15 He also built machines in Jerusalem, devices contrived to stand on the towers and at the angles of the walls to shoot arrows and cast large stones. His fame spread far and wide, and his power was ascribed to the marvelous help he had received.	15 e fabbricò in Gerusalemme diversi tipi di macchine, che collocò sulle torri e agli angoli delle mura per lanciare frecce e grosse pietre; e il suo nome divenne famoso nelle regioni lontane, perchè Iddio lo aiutava e l'aveva reso forte.
16 But after he had become strong, he became proud to his own destruction and broke faith with the LORD, his God. He entered the temple of the LORD to make an offering on the altar of incense.	16 Ma divenuto potente, il cuore di lui si insuperbì a sua ruina, e abbandonato il Signore Dio suo, entrò nel tempio del Signore, e volle bruciare l'incenso sopra l'altare dei profumi.
17 But Azariah the priest, and with him eighty other priests of the LORD, courageous men, followed him.	17 Ma immediatamente il sommo sacerdote Azaria entrò dopo di lui con ottanta sacerdoti del Signore, uomini coraggiosi,
18 They opposed King Uzziah, saying to him: "It is not for you, Uzziah, to burn incense to the LORD, but for the priests, the sons of Aaron, who have been consecrated for this purpose. Leave the sanctuary, for you have broken faith and no longer have a part in the glory that comes from the LORD God."	18 i quali si opposero al re e gli dissero: «Non spetta a te, Ozia, bruciare l'incenso al Signore; questo è l'ufficio dei sacerdoti figli di Aronne, consacrati per un tal ministero. Esci dal santuario; non disprezzare, poichè questo non torna certo a tua gloria dinanzi al Signore Iddio».
19 Uzziah, who was holding a censer for burning the incense, became angry, but at the moment he showed his anger to the priests, while they were looking at him in the house of the LORD beside the altar of incense, leprosy broke out on his forehead.	19 Ozia, che teneva in mano il turibolo per bruciare l'incenso, con gran collera si fece a minacciare i sacerdoti; ma tosto gli si sviluppò la lebbra sulla sua fronte, là dinanzi ai sacerdoti, nella casa del Signore, presso all'altare dei profumi.
20 Azariah the chief priest and all the other priests examined him, and when they saw that his forehead was leprous, they expelled him from the temple. He himself fled willingly, for the LORD had afflicted him.	20 Allorquando il pontefice Azaria e tutti gli altri sacerdoti lo guardarono, videro sulla fronte di lui la lebbra e lo scacciarono in fretta. Ma anch'egli, atterrito, si affrettò a uscire perchè aveva subito sentito il castigo del Signore.
21 King Uzziah remained a leper to the day of his death. As a leper he dwelt in a segregated house, for he was excluded from the house of the LORD. Therefore his son Jotham was regent of the palace and ruled the people of the land.	21 Ozia fu dunque lebbroso fino alla morte e abitò in una casa appartata, coperto dalla lebbra per la quale era stato cacciato dalla casa del Signore. Joatam poi suo figliuolo, tenne il governo del paese.
22 The prophet Isaiah, son of Amos, wrote the rest of the acts of Uzziah, first and last.	22 Il rimanente delle azioni di Ozia, le prime e le ultime, furono scritte da Isaia figlio di Amos profeta.
23 Uzziah rested with his ancestors; he was buried with them in the field adjoining the royal cemetery, for they said, "He was a leper." His son Jotham succeeded him as king.	23 Ozia s'addormentò co' suoi padri, e fu sepolto nel campo dei sepolcri reali, perchè era lebbroso. Gli successe nel regno il figlio Joatam.
