1 בשביעי בעשרים ואחד לחדש היה דבר יהוה ביד חגי הנביא לאמר	1 on the twenty-first day of the seventh month, the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai:
2 אמר נא אל זרבבל בן שלתיאל פחת יהודה ואל יהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול ואל שארית העם לאמר	2 Tell this to the governor of Judah, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, and to the high priest Joshua, son of Jehozadak, and to the remnant of the people:
3 מי בכם הנשאר אשר ראה את הבית הזה בכבודו הראשון ומה אתם ראים אתו עתה הלוא כמהו כאין בעיניכם	3 Who is left among you that saw this house in its former glory? And how do you see it now? Does it not seem like nothing in your eyes?
4 ועתה חזק זרבבל נאם יהוה וחזק יהושע בן יהוצדק הכהן הגדול וחזק כל עם הארץ נאם יהוה ועשו כי אני אתכם נאם יהוה צבאות	4 But now take courage, Zerubbabel, says the LORD, and take courage, Joshua, high priest, son of Jehozadak, And take courage, all you people of the land, says the LORD, and work! For I am with you, says the LORD of hosts.
5 את הדבר אשר כרתי אתכם בצאתכם ממצרים ורוחי עמדת בתוככם אל תיראו	5 This is the pact that I made with you when you came out of Egypt, And my spirit continues in your midst; do not fear!
6 כי כה אמר יהוה צבאות עוד אחת מעט היא ואני מרעיש את השמים ואת הארץ ואת הים ואת החרבה	6 For thus says the LORD of hosts: One moment yet, a little while, and I will shake the heavens and the earth, the sea and the dry land.
7 והרעשתי את כל הגוים ובאו חמדת כל הגוים ומלאתי את הבית הזה כבוד אמר יהוה צבאות	7 I will shake all the nations, and the treasures of all the nations will come in, And I will fill this house with glory, says the LORD of hosts.
8 לי הכסף ולי הזהב נאם יהוה צבאות	8 Mine is the silver and mine the gold, says the LORD of hosts.
9 גדול יהיה כבוד הבית הזה האחרון מן הראשון אמר יהוה צבאות ובמקום הזה אתן שלום נאם יהוה צבאות	9 Greater will be the future glory of this house than the former, says the LORD of hosts; And in this place I will give you peace, says the LORD of hosts.
10 בעשרים וארבעה לתשיעי בשנת שתים לדריוש היה דבר יהוה אל חגי הנביא לאמר	10 On the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month, in the second year of King Darius, the word of the LORD came to the prophet Haggai:
11 כה אמר יהוה צבאות שאל נא את הכהנים תורה לאמר	11 Thus says the LORD of hosts: Ask the priests for a decision:
12 הן ישא איש בשר קדש בכנף בגדו ונגע בכנפו אל הלחם ואל הנזיד ואל היין ואל שמן ואל כל מאכל היקדש ויענו הכהנים ויאמרו לא	12 If a man carries sanctified flesh in the fold of his garment and the fold touches bread, or pottage, or wine, or oil, or any other food, do they become sanctified? "No," the priests answered.
13 ויאמר חגי אם יגע טמא נפש בכל אלה היטמא ויענו הכהנים ויאמרו יטמא	13 Then Haggai said: If a person unclean from contact with a corpse touches any of these, do they become unclean? The priests answered, "They become unclean."
14 ויען חגי ויאמר כן העם הזה וכן הגוי הזה לפני נאם יהוה וכן כל מעשה ידיהם ואשר יקריבו שם טמא הוא	14 Then Haggai continued: So is this people, and so is this nation in my sight, says the LORD: And so are all the works of their hands; and what they offer there is unclean.
15 ועתה שימו נא לבבכם מן היום הזה ומעלה מטרם שום אבן אל אבן בהיכל יהוה	15 But now, consider from this day forward. Before there was a stone laid upon a stone in the temple of the LORD,
16 מהיותם בא אל ערמת עשרים והיתה עשרה בא אל היקב לחשף חמשים פורה והיתה עשרים	16 how did you fare? When one went to a heap of grain for twenty measures, it would yield but ten; When another went to the vat to draw fifty measures, there would be but twenty.
17 הכיתי אתכם בשדפון ובירקון ובברד את כל מעשה ידיכם ואין אתכם אלי נאם יהוה	17 I struck you in all the works of your hands with blight, searing wind, and hail, yet you did not return to me, says the LORD.
18 שימו נא לבבכם מן היום הזה ומעלה מיום עשרים וארבעה לתשיעי למן היום אשר יסד היכל יהוה שימו לבבכם	18 (Consider from this day forward: from the twenty-fourth day of the ninth month. From the day on which the temple of the LORD was founded, consider!)
19 העוד הזרע במגורה ועד הגפן והתאנה והרמון ועץ הזית לא נשא מן היום הזה אברך	19 Indeed, the seed has not sprouted, nor have the vine, the fig, the pomegranate and the olive tree yet borne. From this day, I will bless!
20 ויהי דבר יהוה שנית אל חגי בעשרים וארבעה לחדש לאמר	20 The message of the LORD came a second time to Haggai on the twenty-fourth day of the month:
21 אמר אל זרבבל פחת יהודה לאמר אני מרעיש את השמים ואת הארץ	21 Tell this to Zerubbabel, the governor of Judah: I will shake the heavens and the earth;
22 והפכתי כסא ממלכות והשמדתי חזק ממלכות הגוים והפכתי מרכבה ורכביה וירדו סוסים ורכביהם איש בחרב אחיו	22 I will overthrow the thrones of kingdoms, destroy the power of the kingdoms of the nations. I will overthrow the chariots and their riders, and the riders with their horses shall go down by one another's sword.
23 ביום ההוא נאם יהוה צבאות אקחך זרבבל בן שאלתיאל עבדי נאם יהוה ושמתיך כחותם כי בך בחרתי נאם יהוה צבאות	23 On that day, says the LORD of hosts, I will take you, Zerubbabel, son of Shealtiel, my servant, says the LORD, And I will set you as a signet ring; for I have chosen you, says the LORD of hosts.
