1 ואלה הבאים אל דויד לציקלג עוד עצור מפני שאול בן קיש והמה בגבורים עזרי המלחמה	1 These are the men who rallied to David at Ziklag while he was stil being kept away from Saul son ofKish; they were among the champions, the warriors.
2 נשקי קשת מימינים ומשמאלים באבנים ובחצים בקשת מאחי שאול מבנימן	2 They were equipped with bows and could sling stones or shoot arrows from the bow with either righthand or left. Of Saul's fellow-tribesmen from Benjamin:
3 הראש אחיעזר ויואש בני השמעה הגבעתי ויזואל ופלט בני עזמות וברכה ויהוא הענתתי	3 Ahiezer the leader, and Joash, sons of Hassemar of Gibeah, Jeziel and Peleth, sons of Azmaveth,Berachah and Jehu of Anathoth,
4 וישמעיה הגבעוני גבור בשלשים ועל השלשים וירמיה ויחזיאל ויוחנן ויוזבד הגדרתי	4 Ishmaiah of Gibeon, one of the champions in the Thirty and commander of the Thirty,
5 אלעוזי וירימות ובעליה ושמריהו ושפטיהו החריפי	5 Jeremiah, Jahaziel, Johanan and Jozabed of Gederoth,
6 אלקנה וישיהו ועזראל ויועזר וישבעם הקרחים	6 Eluzai, Jerimoth, Bealiah, Shemariah, Shephatiah of Hariph,
7 ויועאלה וזבדיה בני ירחם מן הגדור	7 Elkanah, Isshiah, Azarel, Joezer and Jashobeam the Korahites,
8 ומן הגדי נבדלו אל דויד למצד מדברה גברי החיל אנשי צבא למלחמה ערכי צנה ורמח ופני אריה פניהם וכצבאים על ההרים למהר	8 Joelah, Zebadiah, sons of Jeroham of Gedor.
9 עזר הראש עבדיה השני אליאב השלשי	9 From the Gadites, some good, capable fighting men defected and came to David at the stronghold inthe desert -- al skil ed with shield and spear, fierce as lions and nimble as mountain gazel es.
10 משמנה הרביעי ירמיה החמשי	10 Ezer was the leader, Obadiah second, Eliab third,
11 עתי הששי אליאל השבעי	11 Mishmannah fourth, Jeremiah fifth,
12 יוחנן השמיני אלזבד התשיעי	12 Attai sixth, Eliel seventh,
13 ירמיהו העשירי מכבני עשתי עשר	13 Johanan eighth, Elzabad ninth,
14 אלה מבני גד ראשי הצבא אחד למאה הקטן והגדול לאלף	14 Jeremiah tenth, Machbannai eleventh.
15 אלה הם אשר עברו את הירדן בחדש הראשון והוא ממלא על כל גדיתיו ויבריחו את כל העמקים למזרח ולמערב	15 These Gadites were the leaders of the troops, the least of them a match for a hundred men and thegreatest a match for a thousand.
16 ויבאו מן בני בנימן ויהודה עד למצד לדויד	16 These were the men who once crossed the Jordan in the first month, when it had overflowed itsbanks and had driven out al the lowlanders to east and west.
17 ויצא דויד לפניהם ויען ויאמר להם אם לשלום באתם אלי לעזרני יהיה לי עליכם לבב ליחד ואם לרמותני לצרי בלא חמס בכפי ירא אלהי אבותינו ויוכח	17 Some of the Benjaminites and Judahites also joined David at the stronghold.
18 ורוח לבשה את עמשי ראש השלושים לך דויד ועמך בן ישי שלום שלום לך ושלום לעזרך כי עזרך אלהיך ויקבלם דויד ויתנם בראשי הגדוד	18 When David came forward to meet them, he responded to them by saying, 'If you have come to mewith peaceful intent to help me, you will find me a good friend. But if it is to betray me to my enemies, seeing thatI have done nothing wrong, may the God of our ancestors take note and condemn you.'
19 וממנשה נפלו על דויד בבאו עם פלשתים על שאול למלחמה ולא עזרם כי בעצה שלחהו סרני פלשתים לאמר בראשינו יפול אל אדניו שאול	19 Then the Spirit invested Amasai the leader of the Thirty: 'We are your men, David; with you, son ofJesse! Peace be with you, peace be with you; peace be with those who help you! For your God has helped you!'And David accepted them, including them among his more senior officers.
20 בלכתו אל ציקלג נפלו עליו ממנשה עדנח ויוזבד וידיעאל ומיכאל ויוזבד ואליהוא וצלתי ראשי האלפים אשר למנשה	20 Some Manassehites also defected to David as he was setting out with the Philistines to fight Saul.But he did not help the Philistines because, after consultation, their chiefs sent him away, saying, 'He wil defectto his master Saul and it wil cost us our heads!'
21 והמה עזרו עם דויד על הגדוד כי גבורי חיל כלם ויהיו שרים בצבא	21 He was on his way to Ziklag when these Manassehites deserted to him: Adnah, Jozabad, Jediael,Michael, Jozabad, Elihu, Zil ethai, chiefs of thousands in Manasseh.
22 כי לעת יום ביום יבאו על דויד לעזרו עד למחנה גדול כמחנה אלהים	22 They helped David and his band, since they were al men of standing and became officers in thearmy.
23 ואלה מספרי ראשי החלוץ לצבא באו על דויד חברונה להסב מלכות שאול אליו כפי יהוה	23 Indeed reinforcements reached David day after day, so that his camp grew into a camp of prodigioussize.
24 בני יהודה נשאי צנה ורמח ששת אלפים ושמונה מאות חלוצי צבא	24 These are the numbers of ful y armed men who joined David at Hebron to transfer Saul's kingdom tohim in accordance with the order of Yahweh:
25 מן בני שמעון גבורי חיל לצבא שבעת אלפים ומאה	25 Judahites carrying shield and spear: six thousand eight hundred ful y armed warriors;
26 מן בני הלוי ארבעת אלפים ושש מאות	26 Simeonites; seven thousand one hundred champions valiant in war;
27 ויהוידע הנגיד לאהרן ועמו שלשת אלפים ושבע מאות	27 Levites: four thousand six hundred,
28 וצדוק נער גבור חיל ובית אביו שרים עשרים ושנים	28 in addition to Jehoiada, in command of the Aaronites, with three thousand seven hundred of these,
29 ומן בני בנימן אחי שאול שלשת אלפים ועד הנה מרביתם שמרים משמרת בית שאול	29 Zadok, a young and valiant champion, and twenty-two commanders of his family;
30 ומן בני אפרים עשרים אלף ושמונה מאות גבורי חיל אנשי שמות לבית אבותם	30 Benjaminites: three thousand kinsmen of Saul, most of them hitherto in the service of the House ofSaul;
31 ומחצי מטה מנשה שמונה עשר אלף אשר נקבו בשמות לבוא להמליך את דויד	31 Ephraimites: twenty thousand eight hundred valiant champions, men famous in their families;
32 ומבני יששכר יודעי בינה לעתים לדעת מה יעשה ישראל ראשיהם מאתים וכל אחיהם על פיהם	32 of the half-tribe of Manasseh: eighteen thousand men assigned by name to go and proclaim Davidking;
33 מזבלון יוצאי צבא ערכי מלחמה בכל כלי מלחמה חמשים אלף ולעדר בלא לב ולב	33 Issacharites, sound judges of the times when Israel should take action, and the way to do it: twohundred chiefs and al their kinsmen under their command;
34 ומנפתלי שרים אלף ועמהם בצנה וחנית שלשים ושבעה אלף	34 Zebulunites: fifty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle, with warlike weapons of everykind, staunch-hearted auxiliaries;
35 ומן הדני ערכי מלחמה עשרים ושמונה אלף ושש מאות	35 Naphtalites: a thousand commanders, and with them thirty-seven thousand men armed with shieldand spear;
36 ומאשר יוצאי צבא לערך מלחמה ארבעים אלף	36 Danites: twenty-eight thousand six hundred men marshal ed for battle;
37 ומעבר לירדן מן הראובני והגדי וחצי שבט מנשה בכל כלי צבא מלחמה מאה ועשרים אלף	37 Asherites: forty thousand men fit for service, marshalled for battle;
38 כל אלה אנשי מלחמה עדרי מערכה בלבב שלם באו חברונה להמליך את דויד על כל ישראל וגם כל שרית ישראל לב אחד להמליך את דויד	38 from Transjordan: a hundred and twenty thousand men of Reuben, Gad and the half-tribe ofManasseh, with warlike weapons of every kind.
39 ויהיו שם עם דויד ימים שלושה אכלים ושותים כי הכינו להם אחיהם	39 Al these warriors in battle array came to David at Hebron with the firm determination of makingDavid king of al Israel; and the rest of Israel, too, was of one mind in wanting to make David king.
40 וגם הקרובים אליהם עד יששכר וזבלון ונפתלי מביאים לחם בחמורים ובגמלים ובפרדים ובבקר מאכל קמח דבלים וצמוקים ויין ושמן ובקר וצאן לרב כי שמחה בישראל	40 For three days they stayed there with David, eating and drinking, their fellow-tribesmen having madepreparations for them;
	41 their neighbours too, from as far away as Issachar and Zebulun and Naphtali, came bringing food ondonkeys, camels, mules and oxen-supplies of flour, fig cakes, bunches of raisins, wine, oil, quantities of oxenand sheep -- for there was joy in Israel.
