Geremia 37

BIBBIA MARTINI	NEW JERUSALEM
1 E Sedecia figliuolo di Giosia ebbe il regno in luogo di Jeconia figliuolo di Joachim, essendo stato constituito re del paese da Nabuchodonosor re di Babilonia.	1 Zedekiah son of Josiah became king, succeeding Coniah son of Jehoiakim. Nebuchadnezzar king ofBabylon had made him king of Judah.
2 E non ubbidì né egli, né i suoi servidori, né il popolo alle parole dette dal Signore per bocca del profeta Geremia.	2 But neither he nor his courtiers nor the people of the country paid any attention to the words Yahwehspoke through the prophet Jeremiah.
3 E il re Sedecia mandò Juchal figliuolo di Selemia, e Sofonia figliuolo di Maasia sacerdote a dire al profeta Geremia: Fa orazione per noi al Signore Dio nostro.	3 King Zedekiah sent Jehucal son of Shelemiah and the priest Zephaniah son of Maaseiah to the prophetJeremiah with this message, 'Intercede for us with Yahweh our God.'
4 Or Geremia andava, e stava liberamente in mezzo al popolo: perocché non lo avevano messo in prigione. Frattanto l'esercito di Faraone uscì dall'Egitto, e udita questa nuova i Caldei, che assediavan Gerusalemme, se ne ritirarono.	4 Now Jeremiah was still moving freely among the people: he had not yet been put in prison.
5 E il Signore parlò a Geremia profeta, dicendo:	5 Meanwhile Pharaoh's army was on the move from Egypt and the Chaldaeans besieging Jerusalem hadraised the siege when they heard the news.
6 Queste cose dice il Signore Dio d'Israele: Voi direte così al re di Giuda, il quale vi ha mandati a consultarmi: Ecco, che l'esercito di Faraone, che veniva in vostro soccorso, se ne tornerà nella sua terra, in Egitto:	6 Then the word of Yahweh came to the prophet Jeremiah as fol ows,
7 E i Caldei torneranno, e combatteranno questa città, e la espugeranno, e la incendieranno.	7 'Yahweh, God of Israel, says this, "To the king of Judah who sent you to consult me make this reply: IsPharaoh's army marching to your aid? It wil withdraw to its own country, Egypt.
8 Queste cose dice il Signore: Non ingannate voi stessi, dicendo: Se ne anderanno assolutamente, e si allontaneranno da noi i Caldei: perocché ei non se ne anderanno.	8 The Chaldaeans wil return to attack this city; they will capture it and burn it down.
9 Ma quand'anche voi disfaceste tutto l'esercito de' Caldei, che combattono contro di voi, e restasser di loro o solamente alcuni feriti, uscirebbe ognun di questi dalla sua tenda, e incendierebbero questa città.	9 Yahweh says this: Do not cheer yourselves up by thinking: The Chaldaeans are leaving us for good.They are not leaving.
10 Essendosi adunque l'esercito de' Caldei ritirato da Gerusalemme per ragion dell'esercito di Faraone,	10 Even if you cut to pieces the whole Chaldaean army now fighting against you until there were only thewounded left, they would stand up again, each man in his tent, to burn this city down." '
11 Si partì Geremia da Gerusalemme per andare nella terra di Benjamin, per ivi spartire una possessione alla presenza de' cittadini;	11 At the time when the Chaldaean army, threatened by Pharaoh's army, had raised the siege ofJerusalem,
12 E arrivato, ch'ei fu alla porta di Beniamin, il custode, che era ivi di turno, di nome Geria figliuolo di Selemia, figliuolo di Hanama, fermò Geremia profeta, dicendo: Tu vai a trovare i Caldei.	12 Jeremiah set out from Jerusalem for the territory of Benjamin to see about a piece of his propertyamong the people there.
13 E Geremia rispose: Questo è falso, non vo' a trovare i Caldei. Ma Geria non l'ascoltò, e preso Geremia lo menò ai principi.	13 He was at the Benjamin Gate when the guard commander there, a certain Irijah son of Shelemiah,son of Hananiah, arrested the prophet Jeremiah, shouting, 'You are deserting to the Chaldaeans!'
14 I principi adunque adirati contro Geremia, fattolo battere, lo poser nella carcere, che era nella casa di Jonathan segretario: imperocché egli avea la soprintendenza della carcere.	14 Jeremiah answered, 'It is a lie! I am not deserting to the Chaldaeans.' But Irijah would not listen toJeremiah and took him under arrest to the chief men.
15 Entrò adunque Geremia nella fossa, e nell'ergastolo, e vi stette per molti giorni.	15 And the chief men, furious with Jeremiah, had him beaten and shut up in the house of the scribeJonathan, which had been turned into a prison.
16 Ma il re Sedecia mandò a cavarlo, e lo interrogò in casa sua segretamente, e disse: V'ha egli qualche Parola da parte del Signore? E Geremia disse: Havvi; e soggiunse: Tu sarai dato in potere del re di Babilonia.	16 Thus Jeremiah found himself in an underground vault. And there for a long time he stayed.
17 E disse Geremia al re Sedecia: Qual fallo ho io commesso contro di te, e contro de' servitori tuoi, e contro il tuo popolo, per ragion del quale tu mi hai mandato in prigione?	17 Later, King Zedekiah had him sent for, and the king questioned him privately in his palace. 'Is thereany word from Yahweh?' he asked. 'There is,' Jeremiah answered, and added, 'you wil be handed over to theking of Babylon.'
18 Dove sono que' vostri profeti, i quali profetizzavano a voi, e dicevano: Non verrà il re di Babilonia sopra di voi, e sopra la vostra terra?	18 Jeremiah then said to King Zedekiah, 'What wrong have I done you, or your courtiers or this people,for you to have put me in prison?
19 Adesso pertanto ascolta, o re mio signore; vaglia la mia preghiera dinanzi a te, e non rimandarmi a casa di Jonathan segretario, perchè io non vi muoia.	19 Where are your prophets now who prophesied, "The king of Babylon wil not attack you or thiscountry"?
20 Comandò adunque il re Sedecia, che Geremia fosse messo nel vestibolo della prigione, e che se gli desse ogni giorno un pane, oltre il companatico, fino a tanto che vi restasse pane in città: e Geremia se ne stava nel vestibolo della prigione.	20 So now I beg you to hear me, my lord king! I beg you to approve my request! Do not have me takenback to the house of the scribe Jonathan, or I shall die there.'
	21 King Zedekiah then gave an order, and Jeremiah was confined in the Court of the Guard and given aloaf of bread a day from the Street of the Bakers as long as there was bread left in the city. So Jeremiah stayedin the Court of the Guard.
