1 L'anno settimo di Jehu cominciò di Gioas a regnare, e regnò quarant'anni in Gerusalemme: sua madre si chiamò Sebia di Bersabee.	1 Joash was seven years old when he became king.
2 E Gioas fece quel, che era giusto nel cospetto del Signore per tutto il tempo, che ebbe per maestro Joiada sommo Sacerdote.	2 Joash began to reign in the seventh year of Jehu, and he reigned forty years in Jerusalem. His mother, who was named Zibiah, was from Beer-sheba.
3 Egli però non tolse via i luoghi eccelsi; perocché il popolo immolava tutt'ora, e bruciava incenso ne' luoghi eccelsi.	3 Joash did what was pleasing to the LORD as long as he lived, because the priest Jehoiada guided him.
4 Or Gioas disse ai Sacerdoti: Tutto il denaro sacro, che sarà portato nel tempio del Signore dai passeggieri, e quello, che è offerto per riscatto della persona, e quello, che spontaneamente, e per libera elezione è portato nel tempio del Signore,	4 Still, the high places did not disappear; the people continued to sacrifice and to burn incense there.
5 Lo riceveranno i sacerdoti secondo il loro turno, e faranno i risarcimenti della casa secondo che vedranno esservi il bisogno.	5 For the priests Joash made this rule: "All the funds for sacred purposes that are brought to the temple of the LORD--the census tax, personal redemption money, and whatever funds are freely brought to the temple of the LORD--
6 Or fino all'anno ventesimo terzo del re Gioas, i sacerdoti non fecero i risarcimenti del tempio.	6 the priests may take for themselves, each from his own clients. However, they must make whatever repairs on the temple may prove necessary."
7 E il re Gioas chiamò a se Joiada Pontefice, e i sacerdoti, e disse loro: Per qual motivo non avete voi fatto i risarcimenti del tempio? Non prendete adunque peli' avvenire il danaro nei vostri turni, ma lasciatelo pei risarcimenti del tempio.	7 Nevertheless, as late as the twenty-third year of the reign of King Joash, the priests had not made needed repairs on the temple.
8 E fu vietato ai sacerdoti di continuare a prendere il danaro dal popolo, e di fare i risarcimenti della casa.	8 Accordingly, King Joash summoned the priest Jehoiada and the other priests. "Why do you not repair the temple?" he asked them. "You must no longer take funds from your clients, but you shall turn them over for the repairs."
9 E il Pontefice Joiada prese una cassa, e vi fece farà una buca dalla parte di sopra, e la collocò presso all'altare dal lato destro riguardo a quelli, che entravan nella casa del Signore, e i sacerdoti, che custodivan le porte, gettavano in quella cassa tutto il denaro, che era portato al tempio del Signore.	9 So the priests agreed that they would neither take funds from the people nor make the repairs on the temple.
10 E quando si accorgevano, che troppo di denaro era nella cassa, il segretario del re, e il Pontefice andavano, e lo cavavano, e contavano tutto quel denaro, che trovavasi nella casa del Signore.	10 The priest Jehoiada then took a chest, bored a hole in its lid, and set it beside the stele, on the right as one entered the temple of the LORD. The priests who guarded the entry would put into it all the funds that were brought to the temple of the LORD.
11 E numeratolo, e pesatolo, lo rimettevano nelle mani di quelli, che risiedevano agli operai della casa del Signore, e quelli ne pagavano i legnaiuoli, e muratori, che lavoravano nella casa del Signore,	11 When they noticed that there was a large amount of silver in the chest, the royal scribe (and the priest) would come up, and they would melt down all the funds that were in the temple of the LORD, and weigh them.
12 E facevano i risarcimenti, e quelli, che tagliavan le pietre, e comperavano i legnami, e le pietre da tagliare, affinchè fosse perfettamente risarcita la casa del Signore in qualunque parte occorresse dì spendere per la stabilita della casa.	12 The amount thus realized they turned over to the master workmen in the temple of the LORD. They in turn would give it to the carpenters and builders working in the temple of the LORD,
13 Ma di quel denaro, che era portato al tempio del Signore, non si facevano le idrie, e le forchette, e i turiboli, e le trombe, né alcuno de' vasi d'oro, e d'argento del tempio del Signore:	13 and to the lumbermen and stone cutters, and for the purchase of the wood and hewn stone used in repairing the breaches, and for any other expenses that were necessary to repair the temple.
14 Perocché egli si dava a quelli, che lavoravano ai risarcimenti del tempio del Signore:	14 None of the funds brought to the temple of the LORD were used there to make silver cups, snuffers, basins, trumpets, or any gold or silver article.
15 E non si faceva render conto a quelli, i quali riceveano il denaro per pagare gli artefici, ma lo amministravano sulla loro fede.	15 Instead, they were given to the workmen, and with them they repaired the temple of the LORD.
16 E non si portava nel tempio del Signore il danaro (offerto) per il delitto, o pel peccato, perchè questo era dei sacerdoti.	16 Moreover, no reckoning was asked of the men who were provided with the funds to give to the workmen, because they held positions of trust.
17 Allora Hazael re di Siria andò all'assedio di Geth, e la prese; e si voltò per andare a Gerusalemme.	17 The funds from guilt-offerings and from sin-offerings, however, were not brought to the temple of the LORD; they belonged to the priests.
18 Per la qual cosa Gioas re di Giuda prese tutte le cose sacre offerte da Josaphat, da Joram, e da Ochozia regi di Giuda suoi maggiori, e quelle, che egli avea offerte; e tutto l'argento, che potè trovarsi ne' tesori del tempio del Signore, e nel palazzo reale, e lo mandò ad Hazaele re di Siria, il quale si ritirò da Gerusalemme.	18 Then King Hazael of Aram mounted a siege against Gath. When he had taken it, Hazael decided to go on to attack Jerusalem.
19 Il resto poi delle azioni di Gioas, e tutto quello, ch'ei fece, non è egli scritto nel giornale de' fatti dei re di Giuda?	19 But King Jehoash of Judah took all the dedicated offerings presented by his forebears, Jehoshaphat, Jehoram, and Ahaziah, kings of Judah, as well as his own, and all the gold there was in the treasuries of the temple and the palace, and sent them to King Hazael of Aram, who then led his forces away from Jerusalem.
20 Or i suoi servi si sollevarono, e fecer congiura tra loro, e uccisero Gioas nella casa di Mello nella discesa di Sella.	20 The rest of the acts of Joash, with all that he did, are recorded in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah.
21 E quelli, che lo uccisero, furono Josachar figliuolo di Semaath, e Jozabad figliuolo di Somer, suoi servi; e morto ch'ei fu lo seppellirono co' padri suoi nella città di Davidde, e regnò in luogo di lui Amasia suo figliuolo.	21 Certain of his officials entered into a plot against him and killed him at Beth-millo.
	22 Jozacar, son of Shimeath, and Jehozabad, son of Shomer, were the officials who killed him. He was buried in his forefathers' City of David, and his son Amaziah succeeded him as king.
