LXXNEW AMERICAN BIBLE
εαν δε γενηται αντιλογια ανα μεσον ανθρωπων και προσελθωσιν εις κρισιν και κρινωσιν και δικαιωσωσιν τον δικαιον και καταγνωσιν του ασεβους1 "When men have a dispute and bring it to court, and a decision is handed down to them acquitting the innocent party and condemning the guilty party,
και εσται εαν αξιος η πληγων ο ασεβων και καθιεις αυτον εναντι των κριτων και μαστιγωσουσιν αυτον εναντιον αυτων κατα την ασεβειαν αυτου αριθμω2 if the latter deserves stripes, the judge shall have him lie down and in his presence receive the number of stripes his guilt deserves.
τεσσαρακοντα μαστιγωσουσιν αυτον ου προσθησουσιν εαν δε προσθωσιν μαστιγωσαι αυτον υπερ ταυτας τας πληγας πλειους ασχημονησει ο αδελφος σου εναντιον σου3 Forty stripes may be given him, but no more; lest, if he were beaten with more stripes than these, your kinsman should be looked upon as disgraced because of the severity of the beating.
ου φιμωσεις βουν αλοωντα4 "You shall not muzzle an ox when it is treading out grain.
εαν δε κατοικωσιν αδελφοι επι το αυτο και αποθανη εις εξ αυτων σπερμα δε μη η αυτω ουκ εσται η γυνη του τεθνηκοτος εξω ανδρι μη εγγιζοντι ο αδελφος του ανδρος αυτης εισελευσεται προς αυτην και λημψεται αυτην εαυτω γυναικα και συνοικησει αυτη5 "When brothers live together and one of them dies without a son, the widow of the deceased shall not marry anyone outside the family; but her husband's brother shall go to her and perform the duty of a brother-in-law by marrying her.
και εσται το παιδιον ο εαν τεκη κατασταθησεται εκ του ονοματος του τετελευτηκοτος και ουκ εξαλειφθησεται το ονομα αυτου εξ ισραηλ6 The first-born son she bears shall continue the line of the deceased brother, that his name may not be blotted out from Israel.
εαν δε μη βουληται ο ανθρωπος λαβειν την γυναικα του αδελφου αυτου και αναβησεται η γυνη επι την πυλην επι την γερουσιαν και ερει ου θελει ο αδελφος του ανδρος μου αναστησαι το ονομα του αδελφου αυτου εν ισραηλ ουκ ηθελησεν ο αδελφος του ανδρος μου7 If, however, a man does not care to marry his brother's wife, she shall go up to the elders at the gate and declare, 'My brother-in-law does not intend to perform his duty toward me and refuses to perpetuate his brother's name in Israel.'
και καλεσουσιν αυτον η γερουσια της πολεως αυτου και ερουσιν αυτω και στας ειπη ου βουλομαι λαβειν αυτην8 Thereupon the elders of his city shall summon him and admonish him. If he persists in saying, 'I am not willing to marry her,'
και προσελθουσα η γυνη του αδελφου αυτου εναντι της γερουσιας και υπολυσει το υποδημα αυτου το εν απο του ποδος αυτου και εμπτυσεται εις το προσωπον αυτου και αποκριθεισα ερει ουτως ποιησουσιν τω ανθρωπω ος ουκ οικοδομησει τον οικον του αδελφου αυτου9 his sister-in-law, in the presence of the elders, shall go up to him and strip his sandal from his foot and spit in his face, saying publicly, 'This is how one should be treated who will not build up his brother's family!'
και κληθησεται το ονομα αυτου εν ισραηλ οικος του υπολυθεντος το υποδημα10 And his lineage shall be spoken of in Israel as 'the family of the man stripped of his sandal.'
εαν δε μαχωνται ανθρωποι επι το αυτο ανθρωπος μετα του αδελφου αυτου και προσελθη γυνη ενος αυτων εξελεσθαι τον ανδρα αυτης εκ χειρος του τυπτοντος αυτον και εκτεινασα την χειρα επιλαβηται των διδυμων αυτου11 "When two men are fighting and the wife of one intervenes to save her husband from the blows of his opponent, if she stretches out her hand and seizes the latter by his private parts,
αποκοψεις την χειρα αυτης ου φεισεται ο οφθαλμος σου επ' αυτη12 you shall chop off her hand without pity.
ουκ εσται εν τω μαρσιππω σου σταθμιον και σταθμιον μεγα η μικρον13 "You shall not keep two differing weights in your bag, one large and the other small;
ουκ εσται εν τη οικια σου μετρον και μετρον μεγα η μικρον14 nor shall you keep two different measures in your house, one large and the other small.
σταθμιον αληθινον και δικαιον εσται σοι και μετρον αληθινον και δικαιον εσται σοι ινα πολυημερος γενη επι της γης ης κυριος ο θεος σου διδωσιν σοι εν κληρω15 But use a true and just weight, and a true and just measure, that you may have a long life on the land which the LORD, your God, is giving you.
οτι βδελυγμα κυριω τω θεω σου πας ποιων ταυτα πας ποιων αδικον16 Everyone who is dishonest in any of these matters is an abomination to the LORD, your God.
μνησθητι οσα εποιησεν σοι αμαληκ εν τη οδω εκπορευομενου σου εξ αιγυπτου17 "Bear in mind what Amalek did to you on the journey after you left Egypt,
πως αντεστη σοι εν τη οδω και εκοψεν σου την ουραγιαν τους κοπιωντας οπισω σου συ δε επεινας και εκοπιας και ουκ εφοβηθη τον θεον18 how without fear of any god he harassed you along the way, weak and weary as you were, and cut off at the rear all those who lagged behind.
και εσται ηνικα εαν καταπαυση σε κυριος ο θεος σου απο παντων των εχθρων σου των κυκλω σου εν τη γη η κυριος ο θεος σου διδωσιν σοι εν κληρω κατακληρονομησαι εξαλειψεις το ονομα αμαληκ εκ της υπο τον ουρανον και ου μη επιλαθη19 Therefore, when the LORD, your God, gives you rest from all your enemies round about in the land which he is giving you to occupy as your heritage, you shall blot out the memory of Amalek from under the heavens. Do not forget!
