1 Now as touching things offered unto idols, we know that we all have knowledge. Knowledge puffeth up, but charity edifieth.	1 Parlons des viandes consacrées aux idoles. Bien sûr, tous nous avons la connaissance. Mais la connaissance nous enfle, pendant que l’amour construit.
2 And if any man think that he knoweth anything, he knoweth nothing yet as he ought to know.	2 Celui qui croit savoir (quelque chose), il ne sait pas encore ce que doit être la connaissance.
3 But if any man love God, the same is known of him.	3 Par contre, si quelqu’un aime (Dieu), celui-là est connu de Dieu.
4 As concerning therefore the eating of those things that are offered in sacrifice unto idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is none other God but one.	4 Peut-on manger les viandes consacrées aux idoles? Nous savons que l’idole n’est rien dans la réalité et qu’il n’y a pas d’autre Dieu que l’Unique.
5 For though there be that are called gods, whether in heaven or in earth, (as there be gods many, and lords many,)	5 Bien sûr, on parle de dieux aussi bien dans les cieux que sur la terre et cela fait beaucoup de dieux et beaucoup de seigneurs.
6 But to us there is but one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we in him; and one Lord Jesus Christ, by whom are all things, and we by him.	6 Mais pour nous il n’y a qu’un seul Dieu, le Père; tout vient de lui et nous allons vers lui. Et il n’y a qu’un seul Seigneur, Jésus, le Christ: tout dépend de lui et nous dépendons de lui.
7 Howbeit there is not in every man that knowledge: for some with conscience of the idol unto this hour eat it as a thing offered unto an idol; and their conscience being weak is defiled.	7 Mais tous n’ont pas la connaissance; pour certains qui étaient habitués aux idoles, c’est là manger une viande consacrée à l’idole, et leur conscience mal formée en est souillée.
8 But meat commendeth us not to God: for neither, if we eat, are we the better; neither, if we eat not, are we the worse.	8 Après tout, ce n’est pas notre régime qui nous fait plaire à Dieu. Si nous n’en mangeons pas, nous ne perdons rien, et ce n’est pas d’en manger qui nous donnera grand-chose.
9 But take heed lest by any means this liberty of yours become a stumblingblock to them that are weak.	9 Donc, avec vos droits, évitez de causer du tort à ceux qui sont mal assurés.
10 For if any man see thee which hast knowledge sit at meat in the idol's temple, shall not the conscience of him which is weak be emboldened to eat those things which are offered to idols;	10 Si l’un d’eux te voit, toi qui as la connaissance, installé dans le salon du temple, sa conscience non libérée en est influencée, et lui aussi mangera ce qui est consacré à l’idole.
11 And through thy knowledge shall the weak brother perish, for whom Christ died?	11 Et voilà que ce faible, ce frère pour qui le Christ est mort, se perd grâce à ton savoir.
12 But when ye sin so against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, ye sin against Christ.	12 Quand vous blessez ainsi les consciences non libérées et péchez contre vos frères, vous péchez contre le Christ.
13 Wherefore, if meat make my brother to offend, I will eat no flesh while the world standeth, lest I make my brother to offend.	13 Donc si quelque aliment entraîne au mal un de mes frères, je ne veux plus jamais manger de viande plutôt que de faire chuter mon frère.
