KING JAMES BIBLENEW JERUSALEM
And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place.1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,
And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting.2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;
And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them.3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.
And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.
And there were dwelling at Jerusalem Jews, devout men, out of every nation under heaven.5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,
Now when this was noised abroad, the multitude came together, and were confounded, because that every man heard them speak in his own language.6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.
And they were all amazed and marvelled, saying one to another, Behold, are not all these which speak Galilaeans?7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?
And how hear we every man in our own tongue, wherein we were born?8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?
Parthians, and Medes, and Elamites, and the dwellers in Mesopotamia, and in Judaea, and Cappadocia, in Pontus, and Asia,9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
Phrygia, and Pamphylia, in Egypt, and in the parts of Libya about Cyrene, and strangers of Rome, Jews and proselytes,10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-
Cretes and Arabians, we do hear them speak in our tongues the wonderful works of God.11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'
And they were all amazed, and were in doubt, saying one to another, What meaneth this?12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.
Others mocking said, These men are full of new wine.13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.
But Peter, standing up with the eleven, lifted up his voice, and said unto them, Ye men of Judaea, and all ye that dwell at Jerusalem, be this known unto you, and hearken to my words:14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.
For these are not drunken, as ye suppose, seeing it is but the third hour of the day.15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.
But this is that which was spoken by the prophet Joel;16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:
And it shall come to pass in the last days, saith God,I will pour out of my Spirit upon all flesh: and your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, and your young men shall see visions, and your old men shall dream dreams:17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.
And on my servants and on my handmaidens I will pour out in those days of my Spirit; and they shall prophesy:18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.
And I will shew wonders in heaven above, and signs in the earth beneath; blood, and fire, and vapour of smoke:19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.
The sun shall be turned into darkness, and the moon into blood, before that great and notable day of the Lord come:20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.
And it shall come to pass, that whosoever shall call on the name of the Lord shall be saved.21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.
Ye men of Israel, hear these words; Jesus of Nazareth, a man approved of God among you by miracles and wonders and signs, which God did by him in the midst of you, as ye yourselves also know:22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.
Him, being delivered by the determinate counsel and foreknowledge of God, ye have taken, and by wicked hands have crucified and slain:23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.
Whom God hath raised up, having loosed the pains of death: because it was not possible that he should be holden of it.24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,
For David speaketh concerning him, I foresaw the Lord always before my face, for he is on my right hand, that I should not be moved:25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.
Therefore did my heart rejoice, and my tongue was glad; moreover also my flesh shall rest in hope:26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,
Because thou wilt not leave my soul in hell, neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.
Thou hast made known to me the ways of life; thou shalt make me full of joy with thy countenance.28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.
Men and brethren, let me freely speak unto you of the patriarch David, that he is both dead and buried, and his sepulchre is with us unto this day.29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.
Therefore being a prophet, and knowing that God had sworn with an oath to him, that of the fruit of his loins, according to the flesh, he would raise up Christ to sit on his throne;30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,
He seeing this before spake of the resurrection of Christ, that his soul was not left in hell, neither his flesh did see corruption.31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.
This Jesus hath God raised up, whereof we all are witnesses.32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.
Therefore being by the right hand of God exalted, and having received of the Father the promise of the Holy Ghost, he hath shed forth this, which ye now see and hear.33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.
For David is not ascended into the heavens: but he saith himself, The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand,34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,
Until I make thy foes thy footstool.35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.
Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'
Now when they heard this, they were pricked in their heart, and said unto Peter and to the rest of the apostles, Men and brethren, what shall we do?37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'
Then Peter said unto them, Repent, and be baptized every one of you in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins, and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'
And with many other words did he testify and exhort, saying, Save yourselves from this untoward generation.40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'
Then they that gladly received his word were baptized: and the same day there were added unto them about three thousand souls.41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.
And they continued stedfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.
And fear came upon every soul: and many wonders and signs were done by the apostles.43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.
And all that believed were together, and had all things common;44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;
And sold their possessions and goods, and parted them to all men, as every man had need.45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.
And they, continuing daily with one accord in the temple, and breaking bread from house to house, did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart,46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;
Praising God, and having favour with all the people. And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved.47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.
