KING JAMES BIBLE | NEW AMERICAN BIBLE |
---|---|
He that dwelleth in the secret place of the most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. | 1 You who dwell in the shelter of the Most High, who abide in the shadow of the Almighty, |
I will say of the LORD, He is my refuge and my fortress: my God; in him will I trust. | 2 Say to the LORD, "My refuge and fortress, my God in whom I trust." |
Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence. | 3 God will rescue you from the fowler's snare, from the destroying plague, |
He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler. | 4 Will shelter you with pinions, spread wings that you may take refuge; God's faithfulness is a protecting shield. |
Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day; | 5 You shall not fear the terror of the night nor the arrow that flies by day, |
Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday. | 6 Nor the pestilence that roams in darkness, nor the plague that ravages at noon. |
A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee. | 7 Though a thousand fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, near you it shall not come. |
Only with thine eyes shalt thou behold and see the reward of the wicked. | 8 You need simply watch; the punishment of the wicked you will see. |
Because thou hast made the LORD, which is my refuge, even the most High, thy habitation; | 9 You have the LORD for your refuge; you have made the Most High your stronghold. |
There shall no evil befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling. | 10 No evil shall befall you, no affliction come near your tent. |
For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. | 11 For God commands the angels to guard you in all your ways. |
They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone. | 12 With their hands they shall support you, lest you strike your foot against a stone. |
Thou shalt tread upon the lion and adder: the young lion and the dragon shalt thou trample under feet. | 13 You shall tread upon the asp and the viper, trample the lion and the dragon. |
Because he hath set his love upon me, therefore will I deliver him: I will set him on high, because he hath known my name. | 14 Whoever clings to me I will deliver; whoever knows my name I will set on high. |
He shall call upon me, and I will answer him: I will be with him in trouble; I will deliver him, and honour him. | 15 All who call upon me I will answer; I will be with them in distress; I will deliver them and give them honor. |
With long life will I satisfy him, and shew him my salvation. | 16 With length of days I will satisfy them and show them my saving power. |
