1 Nakon toga vidjeh: jedan drugi anđeo silazi s neba s moći velikom! Sva se zemlja zasvijetlila od njegova sjaja.1 After this, I saw another angel come down from heaven, with great authority given to him; the earthshone with his glory.
2 On povika iza glasa: »Pade, pade Babilon veliki – Bludnica – i postade prebivalištem zloduhâ, nastambom svih duhova nečistih, nastambom svih ptica nečistih mrskih2 At the top of his voice he shouted, 'Babylon has fal en, Babylon the Great has fallen, and has becomethe haunt of devils and a lodging for every foul spirit and dirty, loathsome bird.
3 jer se gnjevnim vinom bluda njezina opiše narodi; s njom su bludničili svi kraljevi zemaljski, a trgovci se zemaljski obogatiše od silna raskošja njezina.«3 Al the nations have drunk deep of the wine of her prostitution; every king on the earth has prostitutedhimself with her, and every merchant grown rich through her debauchery.'
4 Začujem i drugi glas s neba: »Iziđite iz nje, narode moj, da vas ne zadese zla njezina te ne budete suzajedničari grijeha njezinih!4 Another voice spoke from heaven; I heard it say, 'Come out, my people, away from her, so that you donot share in her crimes and have the same plagues to bear.
5 Jer njezini grijesi do neba dopriješe i spomenu se Bog zločina njezinih.5 Her sins have reached up to the sky, and God has her crimes in mind: treat her as she has treatedothers.
6 Vratite joj milo za drago, naplatite joj dvostruko po djelima! U čašu u koju je ona natakala natočite dvostruko!6 She must be paid double the amount she exacted. She is to have a doubly strong cup of her ownmixture.
7 Koliko se razmetala sjajem i raskoši, toliko joj zadajte muka i jada! Jer u srcu je svome govorila: ‘Na prijestolju sjedim kao kraljica i nikad neću obudovjeti, jad me nikada zadesiti neće!’7 Every one of her pomps and orgies is to be matched by a torture or an agony. I am enthroned asqueen, she thinks; I am no widow and wil never know bereavement.
8 Stoga u isti će je dan zla zadesiti: smrt i jad i glad te će sva u ognju biti spaljena. Jer silan je Gospod, Bog, Sudac njezin!«8 For that, in one day, the plagues wil fal on her: disease and mourning and famine. She wil be burnedto the ground. The Lord God who has condemned her is mighty.'
9 I plakat će i naricati za njom kraljevi zemlje što su s njome bludničili i raskošno živjeli kad gledali budu dim požara njezina.9 'There will be mourning and weeping for her by the kings of the earth who have prostituted themselveswith her and held orgies with her. They see the smoke as she burns,
10 Prestrašeni mukama njezinim, izadaleka će stajati i naricati: »Jao, jao, grade veliki, Babilone, grade silni! Kako li te u tren oka stiže osuda!«10 while they keep at a safe distance through fear of her anguish. They wil say: Mourn, mourn for thisgreat city, Babylon, so powerful a city, in one short hour your doom has come upon you.
11 I trgovci zemaljski plaču nad njom i tuguju jer im trga nitko više ne kupuje:11 'There wil be weeping and distress over her among al the traders of the earth when no one is left tobuy their cargoes of goods;
12 ni zlata, ni srebra, ni dragoga kamenja, ni biserja, ni tanana lana, ni grimiza, ni svile, ni skrleta: nit ikakva mirisava drveta, nit ikakva predmeta od slonove kosti, nit ikakva predmeta od skupocjena drveta, nit od mjedi, nit od željeza, nit od mramora;12 their stocks of gold and silver, jewels and pearls, linen and purple and silks and scarlet; al thesandalwood, every piece in ivory or fine wood, in bronze or iron or marble;
13 ni cimeta, ni balzama, ni miomirisa, ni pomasti, ni tamjana, ni vina, ni ulja, ni bijeloga brašna, ni pšenice; ni goveda, ni ovaca, ni konja, ni kočija, ni roblja nit ikoje žive duše.13 the cinnamon and spices, the myrrh and ointment and incense; wine, oil, flour and corn; their stocksof cattle, sheep, horses and chariots, their slaves and their human cargo.
14 »Voće za kojim ti duša žudjela pobježe od tebe, sav raskoš i sjaj propade ti – ne, nema ga više!«14 'Al the fruits you had set your hearts on have failed you; gone for ever, never to return again, is yourlife of magnificence and ease.
15 Trgovci što svim tim trgovahu, što ih ona obogati, izdaleka će stajati, prestrašeni mukama njezinim, plakat će i tugovati:15 'The traders who had made a fortune out of her wil be standing at a safe distance through fear of heranguish, mourning and weeping.
16 »Jao, jao, grade veliki, odjeveni nekoć u lan tanan i grimiz i skrlet, nakićeni zlatom i dragim kamenjem i biserjem!16 They wil be saying: Mourn, mourn for this great city; for al the linen and purple and scarlet that youwore, for al your finery of gold and jewels and pearls;
17 U tren oka opustje toliko bogatstvo!«
I svi kormilari i putnici, svi mornari i moreplovci izdaleka stoje
17 your huge riches are al destroyed within a single hour.' Al the captains and seafaring men, sailorsand all those who make a living from the sea kept a safe distance,
18 i, gledajući dim njezina požara, zapomažu: »Koji li je grad sličan gradu ovom velikom?«18 watching the smoke as she burned, and crying out, 'Has there ever been a city as great as this!'
19 I posuše glavu pepelom te plačući i tugujući viknuše: »Jao, jao, grada li velikoga! Dragocjenostima se njegovim obogatiše svi posjednici morskih brodova, a evo – u tren oka opustje!«19 They threw dust on their heads and said, with tears and groans: 'Mourn, mourn for this great citywhose lavish living has made a fortune for every owner of a sea-going ship, ruined within a single hour.
20 Vesèli se nad njom, nebo i svi sveti i apostoli i proroci, jer Bog osudivši nju, vama pravo dosudi!20 'Now heaven, celebrate her downfall, and all you saints, apostles and prophets: God has givenjudgement for you against her.'
21 I jedan snažan anđeo uze kamen, velik poput mlinskoga kamena, i baci ga u more govoreći: »Tako će silovito biti strovaljen Babilon, grad veliki, i nikada ga više biti neće!«21 Then a powerful angel picked up a boulder like a great mil stone, and as he hurled it into the sea, hesaid, 'That is how the great city of Babylon is going to be hurled down, never to be seen again.
22 »Glas citraša i pjevača
i svirača i trubljača
u tebi se više neće čuti!
Obrtnik vješt kojem god umijeću
u tebi se više neće naći!
Klopot žrvnja
u tebi se više neće čuti!
22 Never again in you will be heard the song of harpists and minstrels, the music of flute and trumpet;never again wil craftsmen of every skill be found in you or the sound of the handmil be heard;
23 Svjetlost svjetiljke
u tebi više neće sjati!
Glas zaručnika i zaručnice
u tebi se više neće čuti!
Jer trgovci tvoji bijahu velikaši zemlje
i čaranja tvoja zavedoše sve narode;
23 never again wil shine the light of the lamp in you, never again wil be heard in you the voices ofbridegroom and bride. Your traders were the princes of the earth, al the nations were led astray by your sorcery.
24 i u tebi se našla krv proroka i svetaca
i svih zaklanih na zemlji.«
24 In her was found the blood of prophets and saints, and all the blood that was ever shed on earth.'
