Prva Ivanova poslanica 3

1 Gledajte koliku nam je ljubav darovao Otac: djeca se Božja zovemo, i jesmo. A svijet nas ne poznaje zato što ne poznaje njega.	1 You must see what great love the Father has lavished on us by letting us be cal ed God's children --which is what we are! The reason why the world does not acknowledge us is that it did not acknowledge him.
2 Ljubljeni, sad smo djeca Božja i još se ne očitova što ćemo biti. Znamo: kad se očituje, bit ćemo njemu slični jer vidjet ćemo ga kao što jest.	2 My dear friends, we are already God's children, but what we shall be in the future has not yet beenrevealed. We are wel aware that when he appears we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he real yis.
3 I tko god ima tu nadu u njemu, čisti se kao što je on čist.	3 Whoever treasures this hope of him purifies himself, to be as pure as he is.
4 Tko god čini grijeh, čini i bezakonje; ta grijeh je bezakonje.	4 Whoever sins, acts wickedly, because al sin is wickedness.
5 I znate: on se pojavi da odnese grijehe i grijeha nema u njemu.	5 Now you are well aware that he has appeared in order to take sins away, and that in him there is no sin.
6 Tko god u njemu ostaje, ne griješi. Tko god griješi, nije ga vidio nit’ upoznao.	6 No one who remains in him sins, and whoever sins has neither seen him nor recognised him.
7 Dječice, nitko neka vas ne zavede! Tko čini pravdu, pravedan je kao što je On pravedan.	7 Children, do not let anyone lead you astray. Whoever acts uprightly is upright, just as he is upright.
8 Tko čini grijeh, od đavla je jer đavao griješi od početka. Zato se pojavi Sin Božji: da razori djela đavolska.	8 Whoever lives sinfully belongs to the devil, since the devil has been a sinner from the beginning. Thiswas the purpose of the appearing of the Son of God, to undo the work of the devil.
9 Tko god je rođen od Boga, ne čini grijeha jer njegovo sjeme ostaje u njemu; ne može griješiti jer je rođen od Boga.	9 No one who is a child of God sins because God's seed remains in him. Nor can he sin, because he is achild of God.
10 Po ovom se raspoznaju djeca Božja i djeca đavolska: tko god ne čini pravde i tko ne ljubi brata, nije od Boga.	10 This is what distinguishes the children of God from the children of the devil: whoever does not liveuprightly and does not love his brother is not from God.
11 Jer ovo je navještaj koji čuste od početka: da ljubimo jedni druge.	11 This is the message which you heard from the beginning, that we must love one another,
12 Ne kao Kajin, koji bijaše od Zloga i ubi brata svog. A zašto ga ubi? Jer mu djela bijahu zla, a bratova pravedna.	12 not to be like Cain, who was from the Evil One and murdered his brother. And why did he murder hisbrother? Because his own actions were evil and his brother's upright.
13 Ne čudite se, braćo, ako vas svijet mrzi.	13 Do not be surprised, brothers, if the world hates you.
14 Mi znamo da smo iz smrti prešli u život jer ljubimo braću; tko ne ljubi, ostaje u smrti.	14 We are wel aware that we have passed over from death to life because we love our brothers.Whoever does not love, remains in death.
15 Tko god mrzi brata svoga, ubojica je. A znate da nijedan ubojica nema u sebi trajnoga, vječnoga života.	15 Anyone who hates his brother is a murderer, and you are well aware that no murderer has eternal life remaining in him.
16 Po ovom smo upoznali Ljubav: on je za nas položio život svoj. I mi smo dužni živote položiti za braću.	16 This is the proof of love, that he laid down his life for us, and we too ought to lay down our lives for ourbrothers.
17 Tko ima dobra ovoga svijeta i vidi brata svoga u potrebi pa zatvori pred njim srce – kako ljubav Božja ostaje u njemu?	17 If anyone is wel -off in worldly possessions and sees his brother in need but closes his heart to him,how can the love of God be remaining in him?
18 Dječice, ne ljubimo riječju i jezikom, već djelom i istinom.	18 Children, our love must be not just words or mere talk, but something active and genuine.
19 Po tom ćemo znati da smo od istine. I umirit ćemo pred njim srce svoje	19 This will be the proof that we belong to the truth, and it wil convince us in his presence,
20 ako nas ono bilo u čem osuđuje. Jer Bog je veći od našega srca i znade sve.	20 even if our own feelings condemn us, that God is greater than our feelings and knows al things.
21 Ljubljeni, ako nas srce ne osuđuje, možemo zaufano k Bogu.	21 My dear friends, if our own feelings do not condemn us, we can be fearless before God,
22 I što god ištemo, primamo od njega jer zapovijedi njegove čuvamo i činimo što je njemu drago.	22 and whatever we ask we shal receive from him, because we keep his commandments and do what isacceptable to him.
23 I ovo je zapovijed njegova: da vjerujemo u ime Sina njegova Isusa Krista i da ljubimo jedni druge kao što nam je dao zapovijed.	23 His commandment is this, that we should believe in the name of his Son Jesus Christ and that weshould love one another as he commanded us.
24 I tko čuva zapovijedi njegove, u njemu ostaje, i On u njemu. I po ovom znamo da on ostaje u nama: po Duhu kojeg nam je dao.	24 Whoever keeps his commandments remains in God, and God in him. And this is the proof that heremains in us: the Spirit that he has given us.
