Seconda lettera a Timoteo - 2 Timothy 2

GREEK BIBLE	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Συ λοιπον, τεκνον μου, ενδυναμου δια της χαριτος της εν Χριστω Ιησου,	1 As for you, my dear son, take strength from the grace which is in Christ Jesus.
2 και οσα ηκουσας παρ' εμου δια πολλων μαρτυρων, ταυτα παραδος εις πιστους ανθρωπους, οιτινες θελουσιν εισθαι ικανοι και αλλους να διδαξωσι.	2 Pass on to reliable people what you have heard from me through many witnesses so that they in turn wilbe able to teach others.
3 Συ λοιπον κακοπαθησον ως καλος στρατιωτης Ιησου Χριστου.	3 Bear with your share of difficulties, like a good soldier of Christ Jesus.
4 Ουδεις στρατευομενος εμπλεκεται εις τας βιωτικας υποθεσεις, δια να αρεση εις τον στρατολογησαντα.	4 No one on active service involves himself in the affairs of civilian life, because he must win the approvalof the man who enlisted him;
5 Εαν δε και αγωνιζηται τις, δεν στεφανουται, εαν νομιμως δεν αγωνισθη.	5 or again someone who enters an athletic contest wins only by competing in the sports -- a prize can bewon only by competing according to the rules;
6 Ο κοπιαζων γεωργος πρεπει πρωτος να μεταλαμβανη απο των καρπων.	6 and again, it is the farmer who works hard that has the first claim on any crop that is harvested.
7 Εννοει εκεινα τα οποια λεγω? ειθε δε να σοι δωση ο Κυριος συνεσιν εις παντα.	7 Think over what I have said, and the Lord wil give you ful understanding.
8 Ενθυμου τον εκ σπερματος Δαβιδ Ιησουν Χριστον, τον ανασταντα εκ νεκρων, κατα το ευαγγελιον μου.	8 Remember the gospel that I carry, 'Jesus Christ risen from the dead, sprung from the race of David';
9 Δια το οποιον κακοπαθω μεχρι δεσμων ως κακουργος? αλλ' ο λογος του Θεου δεν δεσμευεται.	9 it is on account of this that I have to put up with suffering, even to being chained like a criminal. ButGod's message cannot be chained up.
10 Δια τουτο παντα υπομενω δια τους εκλεκτους, δια να απολαυσωσι και αυτοι την σωτηριαν την εν Χριστω Ιησου μετα δοξης αιωνιου.	10 So I persevere for the sake of those who are chosen, so that they, too, may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus with eternal glory.
11 Πιστος ο λογος? διοτι εαν συναπεθανομεν, θελομεν και συζησει?	11 Here is a saying that you can rely on: If we have died with him, then we shal live with him.
12 εαν υπομενωμεν, θελομεν και συμβασιλευσει? εαν αρνωμεθα αυτον, και εκεινος θελει αρνηθη ημας?	12 If we persevere, then we shal reign with him. If we disown him, then he wil disown us.
13 εαν απιστωμεν, εκεινος μενει πιστος? να αρνηθη εαυτον δεν δυναται.	13 If we are faithless, he is faithful still, for he cannot disown his own self.
14 Ταυτα υπενθυμιζε, διαμαρτυρομενος ενωπιον του Κυριου να μη λογομαχωσι, το οποιον δεν ειναι εις ουδεν χρησιμον, αλλα φερει καταστροφην των ακουοντων.	14 Remind them of this; and tell them in the name of God that there must be no wrangling about words: althat this ever achieves is the destruction of those who are listening.
15 Σπουδασον να παραστησης σεαυτον δοκιμον εις τον Θεον, εργατην ανεπαισχυντον, ορθοτομουντα τον λογον της αληθειας.	15 Make every effort to present yourself before God as a proven worker who has no need to be ashamed,but who keeps the message of truth on a straight path.
16 Τας δε βεβηλους ματαιοφωνιας φευγε? διοτι θελουσι προχωρησει εις πλειοτεραν ασεβειαν,	16 Have nothing to do with godless philosophical discussions -- they only lead further and further awayfrom true religion.
17 και ο λογος αυτων θελει κατατρωγει ως γαγγραινα? εκ των οποιων ειναι ο Υμεναιος και ο Φιλητος,	17 Talk of this kind spreads corruption like gangrene, as in the case of Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18 οιτινες απεπλανηθησαν απο της αληθειας, λεγοντες οτι εγεινεν ηδη η αναστασις, και ανατρεπουσι την πιστιν τινων.	18 the men who have gone astray from the truth, claiming that the resurrection has already taken place.They are upsetting some people's faith.
19 Το στερεον ομως θεμελιον του Θεου μενει, εχον την σφραγιδα ταυτην? Γνωριζει ο Κυριος τους οντας αυτου, και? Ας απομακρυνθη απο της αδικιας πας οστις ονομαζει το ονομα του Κυριου.	19 However, God's solid foundation-stone stands firm, and this is the seal on it: 'The Lord knows thosewho are his own' and 'Al who cal on the name of the Lord must avoid evil.'
20 Εν μεγαλη δε οικια δεν ειναι μονον σκευη χρυσα και αργυρα, αλλα και ξυλινα και οστρακινα, και αλλα μεν προς χρησιν τιμιαν, αλλα δε προς ατιμον.	20 Not al the dishes in a large house are made of gold and silver; some are made of wood orearthenware: the former are held in honour, the latter held cheap.
21 Εαν λοιπον καθαριση τις εαυτον απο τουτων, θελει εισθαι σκευος τιμιας χρησεως, ηγιασμενον και ευχρηστον εις τον δεσποτην, ητοιμασμενον εις παν εργον αγαθον.	21 If someone holds himself aloof from these faults I speak of, he wil be a vessel held in honour,dedicated and fit for the Master, ready for any good work.
22 Τας δε νεανικας επιθυμιας φευγε και ζητει την δικαιοσυνην, την πιστιν, την αγαπην, την ειρηνην μετα των επικαλουμενων τον Κυριον εκ καθαρας καρδιας.	22 Turn away from the passions of youth, concentrate on uprightness, faith, love and peace, in union withal those who cal on the Lord with a pure heart.
23 Τας δε μωρας και απαιδευτους φιλονεικιας παραιτου, εξευρων οτι γεννωσι μαχας?	23 Avoid these foolish and undisciplined speculations, understanding that they only give rise to quarrels;
24 ο δε δουλος του Κυριου δεν πρεπει να μαχηται, αλλα να ηναι πραος προς παντας, διδακτικος, ανεξικακος,	24 and a servant of the Lord must not engage in quarrels, but must be kind to everyone, a good teacher,and patient.
25 διδασκων μετα πραοτητος τους αντιφρονουντας, μηποτε δωση εις αυτους ο Θεος μετανοιαν, ωστε να γνωρισωσι την αληθειαν,	25 He must be gentle when he corrects people who oppose him, in the hope that God may give them achange of mind so that they recognise the truth
26 και να ανανηψωσιν απο της παγιδος του διαβολου, υπο του οποιου ειναι πεπαγιδευμενοι εις το θελημα εκεινου.	26 and come to their senses, escaping the trap of the devil who made them his captives and subjectedthem to his will.
