1 Μιμηται μου γινεσθε, καθως και εγω του Χριστου. | 1 Take me as your pattern, just as I take Christ for mine. |
2 Σας επαινω δε, αδελφοι, οτι εις παντα με ενθυμεισθε, και κρατειτε τας παραδοσεις, καθως παρεδωκα εις εσας. | 2 I congratulate you for remembering me so consistently and for maintaining the traditions exactly as Ipassed them on to you. |
3 Θελω δε να εξευρητε, οτι η κεφαλη παντος ανδρος ειναι ο Χριστος, κεφαλη δε της γυναικος ο ανηρ, κεφαλη δε του Χριστου ο Θεος. | 3 But I should like you to understand that the head of every man is Christ, the head of woman is man,and the head of Christ is God. |
4 Πας ανηρ προσευχομενος η προφητευων, εαν εχη κεκαλυμμενην την κεφαλην, καταισχυνει την κεφαλην αυτου. | 4 For any man to pray or to prophesy with his head covered shows disrespect for his head. |
5 Πασα δε γυνη προσευχομενη η προφητευουσα με την κεφαλην ασκεπη καταισχυνει την κεφαλην εαυτης? διοτι εν και το αυτο ειναι με την εξυρισμενην. | 5 And for a woman to pray or prophesy with her head uncovered shows disrespect for her head; it isexactly the same as if she had her hair shaved off. |
6 Επειδη αν δεν καλυπτηται η γυνη, ας κουρευση και τα μαλλια αυτης? αλλ' εαν ηναι αισχρον εις γυναικα να κουρευη τα μαλλια αυτης η να ξυριζηται, ας καλυπτηται. | 6 Indeed, if a woman does go without a veil, she should have her hair cut off too; but if it is a shamefulthing for a woman to have her hair cut off or shaved off, then she should wear a veil. |
7 Διοτι ο μεν ανηρ δεν χρεωστει να καλυπτη την κεφαλην αυτου, επειδη ειναι εικων και δοξα του Θεου? η δε γυνη ειναι δοξα του ανδρος. | 7 But for a man it is not right to have his head covered, since he is the image of God and reflects God'sglory; but woman is the reflection of man's glory. |
8 Διοτι ο ανηρ δεν ειναι εκ της γυναικος, αλλ' η γυνη εκ του ανδρος? | 8 For man did not come from woman; no, woman came from man; |
9 επειδη δεν εκτισθη ο ανηρ δια την γυναικα, αλλ' η γυνη δια τον ανδρα. | 9 nor was man created for the sake of woman, but woman for the sake of man: |
10 Δια τουτο η γυνη χρεωστει να εχη εξουσιαν επι της κεφαλης αυτης δια τους αγγελους. | 10 and this is why it is right for a woman to wear on her head a sign of the authority over her, becauseof the angels. |
11 Πλην ουτε ο ανηρ χωρις της γυναικος ουτε η γυνη χωρις του ανδρος υπαρχει εν Κυριω. | 11 However, in the Lord, though woman is nothing without man, man is nothing without woman; |
12 Διοτι καθως η γυνη ειναι εκ του ανδρος, ουτω και ο ανηρ ειναι δια της γυναικος, τα παντα δε εκ του Θεου. | 12 and though woman came from man, so does every man come from a woman, and everything comesfrom God. |
13 Κρινατε σεις καθ' εαυτους? ειναι πρεπον γυνη να προσευχηται εις τον Θεον ασκεπης; | 13 Decide for yourselves: does it seem fitting that a woman should pray to God without a veil? |
14 Η ουδε αυτη η φυσις δεν σας διδασκει, οτι ανηρ μεν εαν εχη κομην ειναι εις αυτον ατιμια, | 14 Does not nature itself teach you that if a man has long hair, it is a disgrace to him, |
15 γυνη δε εαν εχη κομην, ειναι δοξα εις αυτην; διοτι η κομη εδοθη εις αυτην αντι καλυμματος. | 15 but when a woman has long hair, it is her glory? After all, her hair was given to her to be a covering. |
16 Εαν τις ομως φαινηται οτι ειναι φιλονεικος, ημεις τοιαυτην συνηθειαν δεν εχομεν, ουδε αι εκκλησιαι του Θεου. | 16 If anyone wants to be contentious, I say that we have no such custom, nor do any of the churches ofGod. |
17 Ενω δε παραγγελλω τουτο, δεν επαινω οτι συνερχεσθε ουχι δια το καλητερον αλλα δια το χειροτερον. | 17 Now that I am on the subject of instructions, I cannot congratulate you on the meetings you hold;they do more harm than good. |
18 Διοτι πρωτον μεν οταν συνερχησθε εις την εκκλησιαν, ακουω οτι υπαρχουσι σχισματα μεταξυ σας, και μερος τι πιστευω? | 18 In the first place, I hear that when you al come together in your assembly, there are separatefactions among you, and to some extent I believe it. |
19 διοτι ειναι αναγκη να υπαρχωσι και αιρεσεις μεταξυ σας, δια να γεινωσι φανεροι μεταξυ σας οι δοκιμοι. | 19 It is no bad thing, either, that there should be differing groups among you so that those who are to betrusted among you can be clearly recognised. |
20 Οταν λοιπον συνερχησθε επι το αυτο, τουτο δεν ειναι να φαγητε Κυριακον δειπνον? | 20 So, when you meet together, it is not the Lord's Supper that you eat; |
21 διοτι εκαστος λαμβανει προ του αλλου το ιδιον εαυτου δειπνον εν τω καιρω του τρωγειν, και αλλος μεν πεινα, αλλος δε μεθυει. | 21 for when the eating begins, each one of you has his own supper first, and there is one going hungrywhile another is getting drunk. |
22 Μη δεν εχετε οικιας δια να τρωγητε και να πινητε; η την εκκλησιαν του Θεου καταφρονειτε, και καταισχυνετε τους μη εχοντας; τι να σας ειπω; να σας επαινεσω εις τουτο; δεν σας επαινω. | 22 Surely you have homes for doing your eating and drinking in? Or have you such disregard for God'sassembly that you can put to shame those who have nothing? What am I to say to you? Congratulate you? Onthis I cannot congratulate you. |
23 Διοτι εγω παρελαβον απο του Κυριου εκεινο, το οποιον και παρεδωκα εις εσας, οτι ο Κυριος Ιησους εν τη νυκτι καθ' ην παρεδιδετο ελαβεν αρτον, | 23 For the tradition I received from the Lord and also handed on to you is that on the night he wasbetrayed, the Lord Jesus took some bread, |
24 και ευχαριστησας εκοψε και ειπε? Λαβετε, φαγετε? τουτο ειναι το σωμα μου το υπερ υμων κλωμενον? τουτο καμνετε εις την αναμνησιν μου. | 24 and after he had given thanks, he broke it, and he said, 'This is my body, which is for you; do this inremembrance of me.' |
25 Ομοιως και το ποτηριον, αφου εδειπνησε, λεγων? Τουτο το ποτηριον ειναι η καινη διαθηκη εν τω αιματι μου? τουτο καμνετε, οσακις πινητε, εις την αναμνησιν μου. | 25 And in the same way, with the cup after supper, saying, 'This cup is the new covenant in my blood.Whenever you drink it, do this as a memorial of me.' |
26 Διοτι οσακις αν τρωγητε τον αρτον τουτον και πινητε το ποτηριον τουτο, τον θανατον του Κυριου καταγγελλετε, μεχρι της ελευσεως αυτου. | 26 Whenever you eat this bread, then, and drink this cup, you are proclaiming the Lord's death until hecomes. |
27 Ωστε οστις τρωγη τον αρτον τουτον η πινη το ποτηριον του Κυριου αναξιως, ενοχος θελει εισθαι του σωματος και αιματος του Κυριου. | 27 Therefore anyone who eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord unworthily is answerable for thebody and blood of the Lord. |
28 Ας δοκιμαζη δε εαυτον ο ανθρωπος, και ουτως ας τρωγη εκ του αρτου και ας πινη εκ του ποτηριου? | 28 Everyone is to examine himself and only then eat of the bread or drink from the cup; |
29 διοτι ο τρωγων και πινων αναξιως τρωγει και πινει κατακρισιν εις εαυτον, μη διακρινων το σωμα του Κυριου. | 29 because a person who eats and drinks without recognising the body is eating and drinking his owncondemnation. |
30 Δια τουτο υπαρχουσι μεταξυ σας πολλοι ασθενεις και αρρωστοι, και αποθνησκουσιν ικανοι. | 30 That is why many of you are weak and il and a good number have died. |
31 Διοτι εαν διεκρινομεν εαυτους, δεν ηθελομεν κρινεσθαι? | 31 If we were critical of ourselves we would not be condemned, |
32 αλλ' οταν κρινωμεθα, παιδευομεθα υπο του Κυριου, δια να μη κατακριθωμεν μετα του κοσμου. | 32 but when we are judged by the Lord, we are corrected by the Lord to save us from being condemnedalong with the world. |
33 Ωστε αδελφοι μου, οταν συνερχησθε δια να φαγητε, περιμενετε αλληλους? | 33 So then, my brothers, when you meet for the Meal, wait for each other; |
34 εαν δε τις πεινα, ας τρωγη εν τη οικια αυτου, δια να μη συνερχησθε προς κατακρισιν. Τα δε λοιπα, οταν ελθω, θελω διαταξει. | 34 anyone who is hungry should eat at home. Then your meeting wil not bring your condemnation. Theother matters I shal arrange when I come. |
