1 Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the commandment of God our Savior, and of Christ Jesus our hope:	1 Pál, Istennek, a mi Üdvözítőnknek és Krisztus Jézusnak, a mi reménységünknek rendeletéből Jézus Krisztus apostola
2 To Timothy, his beloved son in faith. Grace, mercy, and peace from God the Father, and from Christ Jesus our Lord.	2 Timóteusnak, édes fiának a hitben. Kegyelem, irgalom és béke az Atyaistentől és Krisztus Jézustól, a mi Urunktól!
3 As I desired thee to remain at Ephesus when I went into Macedonia, that thou mightest charge some not to teach otherwise,	3 Amikor elindultam Makedóniába, arra kértelek, hogy maradj Efezusban, és parancsold meg egyeseknek, hogy ne tanítsanak másként,
4 Not to give heed to fables and endless genealogies: which furnish questions rather than the edification of God, which is in faith.	4 ne foglalkozzanak mesékkel és vég nélküli nemzetségtáblákkal, amelyek inkább vitatkozásokhoz vezetnek, mint az Isten szerint való rendhez, amely hiten alapszik.
5 Now the end of the commandment is charity, from a pure heart, and a good conscience, and an unfeigned faith.	5 A parancs célja a tiszta szívből, a jó lelkiismeretből és a tettetés nélküli hitből származó szeretet.
6 From which things some going astray, are turned aside unto vain babbling:	6 Az illetők eltértek mindettől, és üres fecsegésre adták a fejüket.
7 Desiring to be teachers of the law, understanding neither the things they say, nor whereof they affirm.	7 A törvény tanítói akarnak lenni, pedig nem is értik, amit mondanak és bizonygatnak.
8 But we know that the law is good, if a man use it lawfully:	8 Mi azonban tudjuk, hogy a törvény jó, ha a törvénynek megfelelően alkalmazzák:
9 Knowing this, that the law is not made for the just man, but for the unjust and disobedient, for the ungodly, and for sinners, for the wicked and defiled, for murderers of fathers, and murderers of mothers, for manslayers,	9 tudva, hogy az igazra nem vonatkozik törvény, hanem csak a gonoszokra, engedetlenekre, istentelenekre, bűnösökre, vétkesekre, szentségtelenekre, apagyilkosokra, anyagyilkosokra, gyilkosokra,
10 For fornicators, for them who defile themselves with mankind, for menstealers, for liars, for perjured persons, and whatever other thing is contrary to sound doctrine,	10 paráznákra, férfiakkal fajtalankodókra, emberrablókra, hazugokra, hamisan esküvőkre, és arra, ami ezeken kívül még ellenkezik az egészséges tanítással,
11 Which is according to the gospel of the glory of the blessed God, which hath been committed to my trust.	11 a boldog Isten dicsőségének rám bízott evangéliuma szerint.
12 I give thanks who hath strengthened me, even to Christ Jesus our Lord, for that he hath counted me faithful, putting me in the ministry;	12 Hálát adok annak, aki erőt adott nekem, Krisztus Jézusnak, a mi Urunknak, hogy megbízhatónak ítélt, és erre a szolgálatra rendelt engem,
13 Who before was a blasphemer, and a persecutor, and contumelious. But I obtained the mercy of God, because I did it ignorantly in unbelief.	13 aki azelőtt káromló, üldöző és gyalázkodó voltam, de irgalmat találtam, mert hitetlenségemben tudatlanul cselekedtem.
14 Now the grace of our Lord hath abounded exceedingly with faith and love, which is in Christ Jesus.	14 Sőt, valósággal elárasztott a mi Urunk kegyelme, a Krisztus Jézusban való hittel és szeretettel együtt.
15 A faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into this world to save sinners, of whom I am the chief.	15 Igaz beszéd ez, s teljes hitelt érdemlő: azért jött el Krisztus Jézus erre a világra, hogy üdvözítse a bűnösöket. Ezek között az első én vagyok.
16 But for this cause have I obtained mercy: that in me first Christ Jesus might shew forth all patience, for the information of them that shall believe in him unto life everlasting.	16 De éppen azért találtam irgalmasságot, hogy Krisztus Jézus rajtam, az elsőn mutassa meg egész hosszantűrését, okulásul azoknak, akik hinni fognak benne az örök életre.
17 Now to the king of ages, immortal, invisible, the only God, be honour and glory for ever and ever. Amen.	17 Tisztesség és dicsőség érte az örökkévalóság halhatatlan, láthatatlan Királyának, az egy Istennek, mindörökkön örökké! Ámen!
18 This precept I commend to thee, O son Timothy; according to the prophecies going before on thee, that thou war in them a good warfare,	18 Ezt a parancsot kötöm a lelkedre, Timóteus fiam, hivatkozva a rád vonatkozó, egykori jövendölésekre, hogy azokban bízva harcold a jó harcot,
19 Having faith and a good conscience, which some rejecting have made shipwreck concerning the faith.	19 s tartsd meg a hitet és a jó lelkiismeretet, amelyet egyesek elvetettek, s így hajótörést szenvedtek a hitben.
20 Of whom is Hymeneus and Alexander, whom I have delivered up to Satan, that they may learn not to blaspheme.	20 Ezek közé tartozik Himéneusz és Alexander, akiket átadtam a sátánnak, hadd tanulják meg, hogy ne káromkodjanak.
