And the word of the Lord came to me, saying:1 The word of Yahweh was addressed to me as follows,
Son of man prophesy, and say: Thus saith the Lord God: Howl ye, Woe, woe to the day:2 'Son of man, prophesy and say, "The Lord Yahweh says this: Howl: Disaster day!
For the day is near, yea the day of the Lord is near: a cloudy day, it shall be the time of the nations.3 For the day is near, the day of Yahweh is near; it wil be a day dark with cloud, a time of doom for thenations.
And the sword shall come upon Egypt: and there shall be dread in Ethiopia, when the wounded shall fall in Egypt, and the multitude thereof shall be taken away, and the foundations thereof shall be destroyed.4 "The sword wil come on Egypt, and anguish on the country of Cush when the slaughtered fal inEgypt, when her riches are carried away and her foundations are destroyed.
Ethiopia, and Libya, and Lydia, and all the rest of the crowd, and Chub, and the children of the land of the covenant, shall fall with them by the sword.5 Cush, Put and Lud, all Arabia, Cub and the children of the country of the covenant will fal by thesword with them.
Thus saith the Lord God: They also that uphold Egypt shall fall, and the pride of her empire shall be brought down: from the tower of Syene shall they fall in it by the sword, saith the Lord the God of hosts.6 "Yahweh says this: "The supports of Egypt wil fall; the pride of her strength wil crumble; they will fal by the sword from Migdol to Syene -- declares the Lord Yahweh.
And they shall be desolate in the midst of the lands that are desolate, and the cities thereof shall be in the midst of the cities that are wasted.7 "They will be the most desolate of desolate countries, and its cities the most ruined of cities.
And they shall know that I am the Lord: when I shall have set a fire in Egypt, and all the helpers thereof shall be destroyed.8 And they wil know that I am Yahweh when I set fire to Egypt and al its supports are shattered.
In that day shall messengers go forth from my face in ships to destroy the confidence of Ethiopia, and there shall be dread among them in the day of Egypt: because it shall certainly come.9 "That day, I shal send messengers by ship to terrify the carefree Cushites, and anguish wil overtakethem on the day of Egypt -- it is coming now!
Thus saith the Lord God : I will make the multitude of Egypt to cease by the hand of Nabuchodonosor the king of Babylon.10 The Lord Yahweh says this: I shal destroy the huge population of Egypt at the hand ofNebuchadnezzar king of Babylon.
He and his people with him, the strongest of nations, shall be brought to destroy the land: and they shall draw their swords upon Egypt: and shall fill the land with the slain.11 He and his people, the most barbarous of nations, wil be brought to ravage the country. They wildraw the sword against Egypt and fil the country with corpses.
And I will make the channels of the rivers dry, and will deliver the land into the hand of the wicked: and will lay waste the land and all that is therein by the hands of strangers, I the Lord have spoken it.12 I shal dry up the courses of the Nile and sel the country to the wicked. I shal lay the whole countrywaste and everything in it, at the hand of foreigners. I, Yahweh, have spoken.
Thus saith the Lord God: I will also destroy the idols, and I will make an end of the idols of Memphis: and there shall be no more a prince of the land of Egypt: and I will cause a terror in the land of Egypt.13 "The Lord Yahweh says this: I shall destroy the foul idols and take the false gods away from Noph.Egypt wil be left without a ruler. I shall spread fear through Egypt.
And I will destroy the land of Phatures, and will make a fire in Taphnis, and will execute judgments in Alexandria.14 I shal lay Pathros waste, set Zoan on fire, inflict my punishments on No.
And I will pour out my indignation upon Pelusium the strength of Egypt, and will cut off the multitude of Alexandria.15 I shal vent my fury on Sin, the bastion of Egypt; I shall wipe out the throngs of No.
And I will make a fire in Egypt: Pelusium shall be in pain like a woman in labour, and Alexandria shall be laid waste, and in Memphis there shall be daily distresses.16 I shal set fire to Egypt; Sin will be seized with convulsions; a breach wil be opened at No and thewaters flood out.
The young men of Heliopolis, and of Bubastus shall fall by the sword, and they themselves shall go into captivity.17 The young men of On and Pi-Beseth wil fal by the sword and the cities themselves go into captivity.
And in Taphnis the day shall be darkened, when I shall break there the sceptres of Egypt, and the pride of her power shall cease in her: a cloud shall cover her, and her daughters shall be led into captivity.18 At Tahpanhes day will turn to darkness when I shatter the sceptres of Egypt there, when the pride ofher strength ceases. A cloud will cover Egypt itself, and its daughters will go into captivity.
And I will execute judgments in Egypt: and they shall know that I am the Lord.19 Such wil be the punishments I inflict on Egypt. And they wil know that I am Yahweh." '
And it came to pass in the eleventh year, in the first month, in the seventh day of the month, that the word of the Lord came to me, saying:20 In the eleventh year, on the seventh day of the first month, the word of Yahweh was addressed to meas fol ows,
Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharao king of Egypt: and behold it is not bound up, to be healed, to be tied up with clothes, and swathed with linen, that it might recover strength, and hold the sword.21 'Son of man, I have broken the arm of Pharaoh king of Egypt; you can see that no one has dressedhis wound by applying remedies to it, by bandaging it and by dressing it, to make it strong enough to wield thesword.
Therefore, thus saith the Lord God: Behold, I come against Pharao king of Egypt, and I will break into pieces his strong arm, which is already broken: and I will cause the sword to fall out of his hand:22 This being so, the Lord Yahweh says this, "Look, I am against Pharaoh king of Egypt; I shal breakhis arms, the sound one and the broken one, and make the sword drop from his hand.
And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and scatter them through the countries.23 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries.
And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and will put my sword in his hand: and I will break the arms of Pharao, and they shall groan bitterly being slain before his face.24 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon and put my sword in his hand. I shal breakPharaoh's arms and, confronted with his enemy, he wil groan like a dying man.
And I will strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharao shall fall: and they shall know that I am the Lord, when I shall have given my sword into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he shall have stretched it forth upon the land of Egypt.25 I shal strengthen the arms of the king of Babylon, and the arms of Pharaoh wil fall. And they wilknow that I am Yahweh, when I put my sword into the hands of the king of Babylon and he wields it againstEgypt.
And I will disperse Egypt among the nations, and will scatter them through the countries, and they shall know that I am the Lord.26 I shal scatter Egypt among the nations and disperse it among the countries; and they wil know that Iam Yahweh." '
