1 Aleph. How hath the Lord covered with obscurity the daughter of Sion in his wrath! how hath he cast down from heaven to the earth the glorious one of Israel, and hath not remembered his footstool in the day of his anger!	1 Alef Come il Signore ha coperto con la oscurità nel suo furore la figliuola di Sion! Dal cielo ha gettato giù Israel, e nel dì del suo furore non s'ha ricordato del scabello de' suoi piedi nella (generosa e) inclita terra.
2 Beth. The Lord hath cast down headlong, and hath not spared, all that was beautiful in Jacob: he hath destroyed in his wrath the strong holds of the virgin of Juda, and brought them down to the ground: he hath made the kingdom unclean, and the princes thereof.	2 Bet Ha gittato da alto tutte le preziose cose di Iacob, e non gli ha perdonato; nel suo furore ha distrutto le fortezze della vergine di Giuda, e halle gittate in terra; ha maculato il regno e li suoi principi.
3 Ghimel. He hath broken in his fierce anger all the horn of Israel: he hath drawn back his right hand from before the enemy: and he hath kindled in Jacob as it were a flaming fire devouring round about.	3 Ghimel Egli ha fracassato nell' ira del suo furore ogni potente forza d' Israel; ha rivoltato a drieto la sua destra della faccia dell' inimico; e ha bruciato Iacob a modo di fuoco divorante con la fiamma per dintorno.
4 Daleth. He hath bent his bow as an enemy, he hath fixed his right hand as an adversary: and he hath killed all that was fair to behold in the tabernacle of the daughter of Sion, he hath poured out his indignation like fire.	4 Dalet Egli ha isteso l'arco suo come inimico, ha firmato la sua destra a modo di oste; e ha ucciso tutto quello che è bello a vedere; ha sparto il suo isdegno come fuoco nel tabernacolo della figliuola di Sion.
5 He. The Lord is become as an enemy: he hath cast down Israel headlong, he hath overthrown all the walls thereof: he hath destroyed his strong holds, and hath multiplied in the daughter of Juda the afflicted, both men and women.	5 He Egli è fatto il Signore a modo dell' inimico; ha gittato da alto a terra Israel, ha gittato tutte le sue mure; dissipoe le sue munizioni, e nella figliuola di Giuda ha riempiuto l' umiliato e la umiliata.
6 Vau. And he hath destroyed his tent as a garden, he hath thrown down his tabernacle: the Lord hath caused feasts and sabbaths to be forgotten in Sion: and hath delivered up king and priest to reproach, and to the indignation of his wrath.	6 Vau Ed egli ha dissipato il suo pavione a modo dell' orto, ha distrutto il suo tabernacolo; ha dato il Signore in dimenticanza la festività e il sabbato in Sion; e ha dato in obbrobrio e in isdegno del suo furore il re e il sacerdote.
7 Zain. The Lord hath cast off his altar, he hath cursed his sanctuary: he hath delivered the walls of the towers thereof into the hand of the enemy: they have made a noise in the house of the Lord, as in the day of a solemn feast.	7 Zain Il Signore ha ripreso il suo altare; egli ha maledetto alla sua santificazione; ha dato nelle mani dell' inimico le mura delle sue torri; dettero la voce nella casa del Signore, come nel dì solenne.
8 Heth. The Lord hath purposed to destroy the wall of the daughter of Sion: he hath stretched out his line, and hath not withdrawn his hand from destroying: and the bulwark hath mourned, and the wall hath been destroyed together.	8 Het Ha pensato il Signore di dissipare il muro della figliuola di Sion; egli ha isteso la sua funicella, e non ha rimosso la mano sua dalla perdizione; e pianse all' antimurale, ed egualmente egli è distrutto il muro.
9 Teth. Her gates are sunk into the ground: he hath destroyed, and broken her bars: her king and her princes are among the Gentiles: the law is no more, and her prophets have found no vision from the Lord.	9 Tet Le sue porte sono ruinate in terra; egli ha perduto e fracassato le sue serrature, e il suo re e li suoi principi nelle genti; non v'è più legge, e li suoi profeti non hanno trovato la visione dal Signore.
10 Jod. The ancients of the daughter of Sion sit upon the ground, they have held their peace: they have sprinkled their heads with dust, they are girded with haircloth, the virgins of Jerusalem hang down their heads to the ground.	10 Iod Sedettero in terra, tacettero li antiqui della figliuola di Sion; si sparsero loro capi con la cenere, sonsi vestiti con i cilicii; inclinorono in terra li suoi capi le vergini di Ierusalem.
11 Caph. My eyes have failed with weeping, my bowels are troubled: my liver is poured out upon the earth, for the destruction of the daughter of my people, when the children, and the sucklings, fainted away in the streets of the city.	11 Caf Sono venuti a meno gli occhi miei per le lacrime, si sono conturbate le viscere mie; egli è sparto in terra il fegato mio sopra la afflizione della figliuola del populo mio, venendo a meno il piccolino e lattante nelle piazze della terra.
12 Lamed. They said to their mothers: Where is corn and wine? when they fainted away as the wounded in the streets of the city: when they breathed out their souls in the bosoms of their mothers.	12 Lamed Loro dissero alle sue madri: dove è il frumento e il vino? venendo a meno quasi feriti nelle piazze delle città, e spingendo fuori loro alme nel seno delle sue madri.
13 Mem. To what shall I compare thee? or to what shall I liken thee, O daughter of Jerusalem? to what shall I equal thee, that I may comfort thee, O virgin daughter of Sion? for great as the sea is thy destruction: who shall heal thee?	13 Mem A cui te agguaglierò, ovvero a cui assimiglierò te, figliuola di Ierusalem? a cui te appropriarò, e consolarommi di te, o vergine figliuola di Sion? imperò che certo egli è grande a modo del mare la tua contrizione: cui ti medicarà?
14 Nun. Thy prophets have seen false and foolish things for thee: and they have not laid open thy iniquity, to excite thee to penance: but they have seen for thee false revelations and banishments.	14 Nun Li tuoi profeti di te videro le cose false e stolte, e non aprivano la tua iniquità acciò che ti provocasseno a penitenza; etiam di te vedettero le assunzioni false, e le deiezioni.
15 Samech. All they that passed by the way have clapped their hands at thee: they have hissed, and wagged their heads at the daughter of Jerusalem, saying: Is this the city of perfect beauty, the joy of all the earth?	15 Samec Tutti che passavano per la via si percossero le mani sopra di te; sibilorono e movettero li capi suoi sopra la figliuola di Ierusalem, dicendo: or non è questa la città che era di perfetta bellezza, e gaudio dell' universa terra?
16 Phe. All thy enemies have opened their mouth against thee: they have hissed, and gnashed with the teeth, and have said: We will swallow her up: lo, this is the day which we looked for: we have found it, we have seen it.	16 Fe Tutti i tuoi inimici apersero sopra di te la bocca sua; sibilorono, e strinsero li denti, e dissero: noi la divoreremo; ecco, che questo egli è il giorno che noi aspettavamo; abbiamolo trovato e veduto.
17 Ain. The Lord hath done that which he purposed, he hath fulfilled his word, which he commanded in the days of old: he hath destroyed, and hath not spared, and he hath caused the enemy to rejoice over thee, and hath set up the horn of thy adversaries.	17 Ain Fece Iddio quello egli pensoe, adempì il parlare suo, il quale avea comandato dalli giorni antiqui; egli distrusse, non perdonoe; sopra di te rallegrò l' inimico, ed esaltò li molti tuoi osti.
18 Sade. Their heart cried to the Lord upon the walls of the daughter of Sion: Let tears run down like a torrent day and night: give thyself no rest, and let not the apple of thy eye cease.	18 Sade Loro core gridò al Signore sopra le mura della figliuola di Sion: come il (fiume) torrente, spingi le lacrime per lo die e per la notte; a te non dare riposo, e non taccia (ovvero cessi) la pupilla del tuo occhio.
19 Coph. Arise, give praise in the night, in the beginning of the watches: pour out thy heart like water before the face of the Lord: lift up thy hands to him for the life of thy little children, that have fainted for hunger at the top of all the streets.	19 Cof Lèvati, lauda nella notte, nel principio delle vigilie; spargi come acqua il cuore tuo inanzi il conspetto del Signore; a lui leva le mani per l'auima. de' tuoi piccolini, imperò che periscono per fame in capo di tutte le strade.
20 Res. Behold, O Lord, and consider whom thou hast thus dealt with: shall women then eat their own fruit, their children of a span long? shall the priest and the prophet be slain in the sanctuary of the Lord ?	20 Res Vedi, Signore, e considera colui che a tal modo hai vendemmiato; adunque or mangeranno le femine il suo frutto, li fanciulli alla mensura del palmo? a tal modo uccidesi il sacerdote e il profeta nel santuario del Signore?
21 Sin. The child and the old man lie without on the ground: my virgins and my young men are fallen by the sword: thou hast slain them in the day of thy wrath: thou hast killed, and shewn them no pity.	21 Sin Giacquero in terra di fuori il fanciullo e il vecchio; le mie vergini e li miei giovani cadettero nel coltello; nel giorno del tuo furore uccidestili; percotesti, e non hai avuto misericordia.
22 Thau. Thou hast called as to a festival, those that should terrify me round about, and there was none in the day of the wrath of the Lord that escaped and was left: those that I brought up, and nourished, my enemy hath consumed them.	22 Tau Chiamasti quasi al di solenne coloro che mi spaventassero per dintorno; e non vi fu nel giorno del furore del Signore cui fuggisse e fosse lasciato; quelli ch' io elevai e nutrii, l' inimico li consumoe.
