1 That thou wouldst rend the heavens, and wouldst come down: the mountains would melt away at thy presence.	1 - O se tu squarciassi i cieli e scendessi! Al tuo cospetto si squaglierebbero i monti;
2 They would melt as at the burning of fire, the waters would burn with fire, that thy name might be made known to thy enemies: that the nations might tremble at thy presence.	2 come in una fiammata di fuoco si consumerebbero; ribollirebbero le acque; affinchè fosse noto ai tuoi nemici il tuo nome e al tuo cospetto tremassero le genti!
3 When thou shalt do wonderful things, we shall not bear them: thou didst come down, and at thy presence the mountains melted away.	3 Quando tu avessi operato portenti a cui non potessimo reggere; fosti disceso e i monti si fossero liquefatti;
4 From the beginning of the world they have not heard, nor perceived with the ears: the eye hath not seen, O God, besides thee, what things thou hast prepared for them that wait for thee.	4 non per questo al mondo si potrà udire, nè intendere colle orecchie: occhio non vide eccetto te, o Dio, quello che tu hai preparato per coloro che ti aspettano.
5 Thou hast met him that rejoiceth, and doth justice: in thy ways they shall remember thee: behold thou art angry, and we have sinned: in them we have been always, and we shall be saved.	5 Tu sei andato incontro a chi ti faceva buon viso, e a chi praticava la tua giustizia; nelle tue vie si ricorderanno di te. Ecco che ti sei sdegnato: noi abbiamo peccato, siamo sempre negli stessi peccati; ma saremo salvati.
6 And we are all become as one unclean, and all our justices as the rag of a menstruous woman: and we have all fallen as a leaf, and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.	6 Tutti siamo diventati come persone contaminate, tutta la nostra giustizia è come panno da mestrui; siamo tutti caduti come la foglia e le nostre iniquità come il vento ci travolsero.
7 There is none that calleth upon thy name: that riseth up, and taketh hold of thee: thou hast hid thy face from us, and hast crushed us in the hand of our iniquity.	7 Non c'è nessuno che invochi il tuo nome, che si risvegli e si stringa a te; hai nascosta a noi la tua faccia e ci hai schiacciati sotto la nostra iniquità.
8 And now, O Lord, thou art our father, and we are clay: and thou art our maker, and we all are the works of thy hands.	8 Ed ora, o Signore, tu sei il nostro padre e noi un impasto di creta; sei tu che ci hai impastati, e noi siamo tutti opera delle tue mani.
9 Be not very angry, O Lord, and remember no longer our iniquity: behold, see we are all thy people.	9 Non adirarti, o Signore, di più: non voler più oltre rammentare la nostra iniquità; ecco, guardaci, siamo tutti tuo popolo.
10 The city of thy sanctuary is become a desert, Sion is made a desert, Jerusalem is desolate.	10 La città del tuo santuario è diventata deserta, deserta Sion, Gerusalemme abbandonata.
11 The house of our holiness, and of our glory, where our fathers praised thee, is burnt with fire, and all our lovely things are turned into ruins.	11 La casa che era il nostro santuario e la nostra gloria, dove i nostri padri ti avevano lodato, è stata arsa dal fuoco, e tutte le nostre cose più care sono andate in rovina.
12 Wilt thou refrain thyself, O Lord, upon these things, wilt thou hold thy peace, and afflict us vehemently?	12 In faccia a questo spettacolo potrai, o Signore, contenerti? tacerai e seguiterai ad affligerci oltre misura?
