Sirach 33

DOUAI-RHEIMS	SAGRADA BIBLIA
1 No evils shall happen to him that feareth the Lord, but in temptation God will keep him, and deliver him from evils.	1 Aquele que teme o Senhor não será surpreendido por nenhuma desgraça. Mas Deus o protegerá na provação, e o livrará de todo o mal.
2 A wise man hateth not the commandments and justices, and he shall not be dashed in pieces as a ship in a storm.	2 O sábio não odeia nem os mandamentos nem os preceitos. Ele não se despedaçará como uma nave na tempestade.
3 A man of understanding is faithful to the law of God, and the law is faithful to him.	3 O homem sensato crê na lei de Deus, e a lei lhe é fiel.
4 He that cleareth up a question, shall prepare what to say, and so having prayed he shall be heard, and shall keep discipline, and then he shall answer.	4 Aquele que esclarece uma pergunta, prepara a resposta; depois de assim ter orado, ele será atendido. Ele concentra as suas idéias e depois responde.
5 The heart of a fool is as a wheel of a cart: and his thoughts are like a rolling axletree.	5 O coração do insensato é como as rodas de um carro, e o seu pensamento é semelhante a um eixo que gira.
6 A friend that is a mocker, is like a stallion horse: he neigheth under every one that sitteth upon him.	6 O amigo zombador é como o garanhão, que relincha debaixo de qualquer um que o monta.
7 Why doth one day excel another, and one light another, and one year another year, when all come of the sun?	7 Por que um dia prevalece sobre outro dia, uma luz sobre outra luz, um ano sobre outro ano, (provindo todos) do mesmo sol?
8 By the knowledge of the Lord they were distinguished, the sun being made, and keeping his commandment.	8 Foi a ciência do Senhor que os diferenciou, quando criou o sol que atende às suas leis;
9 And he ordered the seasons, and holidays of them, and in them they celebrated festivals at an hour.	9 ele distinguiu os tempos e os dias de festa, nos quais os homens celebram pontualmente as solenidades.
10 Some of them God made high and great days, and some of them he put in the number of ordinary days. And all men are from the ground, and out of the earth, from whence Adam was created.	10 Entre eles há alguns que Deus elevou e consagrou; a outros pôs no número dos dias comuns. Foi assim que Deus tirou todos os homens do solo e da terra de que foi formado Adão.
11 With much knowledge the Lord hath divided them and diversified their ways.	11 Em sua grande sabedoria, o Senhor os distinguiu, e diversificou os seus caminhos.
12 Some of them hath he blessed, and exalted: and some of them hath he sanctified, and set near himself: and some of them hath he cursed and brought low, end turned them from their station.	12 Entre eles, alguns foram abençoados e exaltados, outros foram santificados, e ele os tomou para si. Entre eles, alguns foram amaldiçoados e humilhados, os quais ele expulsou de seu lugar de exílio.
13 As the potter's clay is in his hand, to fashion and order it:	13 Como o barro está nas mãos do oleiro, que o molda e o dispõe,
14 All his ways are according to his ordering: so man is in the hand of him that made him, and he will render to him according to his judgment.	14 dando-lhe todas as formas que deseja, assim é o homem na mão de quem o criou, e que lhe retribuirá segundo o seu juízo.
15 Good is set against evil, and life against death: so also is the sinner against a just man. And so look upon all the works of the most High. Two and two, and one against another.	15 Diante do mal está o bem; diante da morte, a vida, assim também diante do justo está o pecador. Considera assim todas as obras do Altíssimo; estão sempre duas a duas, opostas uma à outra.
16 And I awaked last of all, and as one that gathereth after the grapegatherers.	16 E eu fui o último que despertei, e fiz como o que junta os grãos depois da vindima.
17 In the blessing of God I also have hoped: and as one that gathereth grapes, have I filled the winepress.	17 Eu também esperei na bênção de Deus, e enchi a tina como o vindimador.
18 See that I have not laboured for myself only, but for all that seek discipline.	18 Olhai que não trabalhei só para mim, mas para todos os que buscam a doutrina.
19 Hear me, ye great men, and all ye people, and hearken with your ears, ye rulers of the church.	19 Ouvi-me, ó poderosos e todos os povos! E vós, chefes da assembléia, escutai-me!
20 Give not to son or wife, brother or friend, power over thee while thou livest; and give not thy estate to another, lest then repent, and thou entreat for the same.	20 Ao teu filho, à tua mulher, ao teu irmão, ao teu amigo, não concedas autoridade sobre ti durante tua vida. Não dês teus bens a outrem, para não te arrependeres e teres de tornar a pedi-los.
21 As long as thou livest, and hast breath in thee, let no man change thee.	21 Enquanto viveres e respirares, que ninguém te faça mudar a esse respeito,
22 For it is better that thy children should ask of thee, than that thou look toward the hands of thy children.	22 porque é melhor que os teus filhos te peçam, do que estares tu olhando para as mãos de teus filhos.
23 In all thy works keep the pre-eminence.	23 Em tudo o que fizeres conserva a tua autoridade;
24 Let no stain sully thy glory. In the time when thou shalt end the days of thy life, and in the time of thy decease, distribute thy inheritance.	24 não manches o teu bom nome. (Somente) no fim de tua vida, no momento da morte, distribuirás a tua herança.
25 Fodder, and a wand, and a burden are for an ass: bread, and correction, and work for a slave.	25 Para o jumento o feno, a vara e a carga. Para o escravo o pão, o castigo e o trabalho.
26 He worketh under correction, and seeketh to rest: let his hands be idle, and he seeketh liberty.	26 O escravo só trabalha quando corrigido, e só aspira ao repouso; afrouxa-lhe a mão, e ele buscará a liberdade.
27 The yoke and the thong bend a stiff neck, and continual labours bow a slave.	27 O jugo e a correia fazem dobrar o mais rígido pescoço; o trabalho contínuo torna o escravo dócil.
28 Torture and fetters are for a malicious slave: send him to work, that he be not idle:	28 Para o escravo malévolo a tortura e as peias; manda-o para o trabalho para que ele não fique ocioso,
29 For idleness hath taught much evil.	29 pois a ociosidade ensina muita malícia.
30 Set him to work: for so it is fit for him. And if he be not obedient, bring him down with fetters, but be not excessive towards any one: and do no grievous thing without judgment.	30 Ocupa-o no trabalho, pois é o que lhe convém. Se ele não obedecer, submete-o com grilhões, mas não cometas excessos, seja com quem for, e não faças coisa alguma importante sem ter refletido.
31 If thou have a faithful servant, let him be to thee as thy own soul: treat him as a brother: because in the blood of thy soul thou hast gotten him.	31 Se tiveres um escravo fiel, que ele te seja tão estimado como tu mesmo. Trata-o como irmão, porque foi pelo preço de teu sangue que o obtiveste.
32 If thou hurt him unjustly, he will run away:	32 Se o maltratares injustamente, ele fugirá;
33 And if he rise up and depart, thou knowest not whom to ask, and in what way to seek him.	33 se ele for embora, não saberás a quem perguntar, nem onde deverás procurá-lo.
