Then Moses and the children of Israel sung this canticle to the Lord: and said: Let us sing to the Lord: for he is gloriously magnified, the horse and the rider he hath thrown into the sea.1 Entonces Moisés y los israelitas cantaron este cántico a Yahveh. Dijeron: «Canto a Yahveh pues se cubrió de gloria arrojando en el mar caballo y carro.
The Lord is my strength and my praise, and he is become salvation to me: he is my God and I will glorify him: the God of my father, and I will exalt him.2 Mi fortaleza y mi canción es Yah. El es mi salvación. El, mi Dios, yo le glorifico, el Dios de mi padre, a quien exalto.
The Lord is as a man of war, Almighty is his name.3 ¡Un guerrero Yahveh, Yahveh es su nombre!
Pharao's chariots and his army he hath cast into the sea: his chosen captains are drowned in the Red Sea.4 Los carros de Faraón y sus soldados precipitó en el mar. La flor de sus guerreros tragó el mar de Suf;
The depths have covered them, they are sunk to the bottom like a stone.5 cubriólos el abismo, hasta el fondo cayeron como piedra.
Thy right hand, O Lord, is magnified in strength: thy right hand, O Lord, hath slain the enemy.6 Tu diestra, Yahveh, relumbra por su fuerza; tu diestra, Yahveh, aplasta al enemigo.
And in the multitude of they glory thou hast put down thy adversaries: thou hast sent thy wrath, which hath devoured them like stubble.7 En tu gloria inmensa derribas tus contrarios, desatas tu furor y los devora como paja.
And with the blast of thy anger the waters were gathered together: the flowing water stood, the depth were gathered together in the midst of the sea.8 Al soplo de tu ira se apiñaron las aguas, se irguieron las olas como un dique, los abismos cuajaron en el corazón del mar.
The enemy said: I will pursue and overtake, I will divide the spoils, my soul shall have its fill: I will draw my sword, my hand shall slay them.9 Dijo el enemigo: «Marcharé a su alcance, repartiré despojos, se saciará mi alma, sacaré mi espada y los aniquilará mi mano.»
Thy wind blew and the sea covered them: they sunk as lead in the mighty waters.10 Mandaste tu soplo, cubriólos el mar; se hundieron como plomo en las temibles aguas.
Who is like to thee, among the strong, O Lord? who is like to thee, glorious in holiness, terrible and praiseworthy, doing wonders?11 ¿Quién como tú, Yahveh, entre los dioses? ¿Quién como tú, glorioso en santidad, terrible en prodigios, autor de maravillas?
Thou stretchedst forth thy hand, and the earth swallowed them.12 Tendiste tu diestra y los tragó la tierra.
In thy mercy thou hast been a leader to the people which thou hast redeemed: and in thy strength thou hast carried them to thy holy habitation.13 Guiaste en tu bondad al pueblo rescatado. Tu poder los condujo a tu santa morada.
Nations rose up, and were angry: sorrows took hold on the inhabitants of Philisthiim.14 Oyéronlo los pueblos, se turbaron, dolor como de parto en Filistea.
Then were the princes of Edom troubled, trembling seized on the stout men of Moab: all the inhabitants of Chanaan became stiff.15 Los príncipes de Edom se estremecieron, se angustiaron los jefes de Moab y todas las gentes de Canaán temblaron.
Let fear and dread fall upon them, in the greatness of thy arm: let them become unmoveable as a stone, until thy people, O Lord, pass by: until this thy people pass by, which thou hast possessed.16 Pavor y espanto cayó sobre ellos. La fuerza de tu brazo los hizo enmudecer como una piedra, hasta que pasó tu pueblo, oh Yahveh, hasta pasar el pueblo que compraste.
Thou shalt bring them in, and plant them in the mountain of thy inheritance, in thy most firm habitation which thou hast made, O Lord; thy sanctuary, O Lord, which thy hands have established.17 Tú le llevas y le plantas en el monte de tu herencia, hasta el lugar que tú te has preparado para tu sede, ¡oh Yahveh! Al santuario, Adonay, que tus manos prepararon.
The Lord shall reign for ever and ever.18 ¡Yahveh reinará por siempre jamás!»
For Pharao went in on horseback with his chariots and horsemen into the sea: and the Lord brought back upon them the waters of the sea: but the children of Israel walked on dry ground in the midst thereof.19 Porque cuando los caballos de Faraón y los carros con sus guerreros entraron en el mar, Yahveh hizo que las aguas del mar volvieran sobre ellos, mientras que los israelitas pasaron a pie enjuto por medio del mar.
So Mary the prophetess, the sister of Aaron, took a timbrel in her hand: and all the women went forth after her with timbrels and with dances:20 María, la profetisa, hermana de Aarón tomó en sus manos un tímpano y todas la mujeres la seguían con tímpanos y danzando en coro.
And she began the song to them, saying: Let us sing to the Lord, for he is gloriously magnified, the horse and his rider he hath thrown into the sea.21 Y María les entonaba el estribillo: «Cantad a Yahveh pues se cubrió de gloria. arrojando en el mar caballo y carro.»
And Moses brought Israel from the Red Sea, and they went forth into the wilderness of Sur: and they marched three days through the wilderness, and found no water.22 Moisés hizo partir a los israelitas del mar de Suf y se dirigieron hacia el desierto de Sur: caminaron tres días por el desierto sin encontrar agua.
And they came into Mara, and they could not drink the waters of Mara, because they were bitter: whereupon he gave a name also agreeable to the place, calling it Mara, that is, bitterness.23 Luego llegaron a Mará, porque era amarga. Por eso se llama aquel lugar Mará.
And the people murmured against Moses, saying: What shall we drink?24 El pueblo murmuró contra Moisés, diciendo: «¿Qué vamos a beber?»
But he cried to the Lord, and he shewed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, they were turned into sweetness. There he appointed him ordinances, and judgments, and there he proved him,25 Entonces Moisés invocó a Yahveh, y Yahveh le mostró un madero que Moisés echó al agua, y el agua se volvió dulce. Allí dio a Israel decretos y normas, y allí le puso a prueba.
Saying: If thou wilt hear the voice of the Lord thy God, and do what is right before him, and obey his commandments, and keep all his precepts, none of the evils that I laid upon Egypt, will I bring upon thee: for I am the Lord thy healer.26 Y dijo: «Si de veras escuchas la voz de Yahveh, tu Dios, y haces lo que es recto a sus ojos, dando oídos a sus mandatos y guardando todos sus preceptos, no traeré sobre ti ninguna de las plagas que envié sobre los egipcios; porque yo soy Yahveh, el que te sana.»
And the children of Israel came into Elim, where there were twelve fountains of water, and seventy palm trees: and they encamped by the waters.27 Después llegaron a Elim, donde hay doce fuentes de agua y setenta palmeras, y acamparon allí junto a las aguas.
