Nehemiah 6

1 And it came to pass, when Sanaballat, and Tobias, and Gossem the Arabian, and the rest of our enemies, heard that I had built the wall, and that there was no breach left in it, (though at that time I had not set up the doors in the gates,)	1 OR quando Samballat, e Tobia, e Ghesem Arabo, e gli altri nostri nemici, ebbero inteso che io avea riedificate le mura, e che non vi era restata alcuna rottura quantunque fino a quel tempo io non avessi poste le reggi alle porte,
2 Sanaballat and Gossem Rent to me, saying: Come, and let us make a league together in the villages, in the plain of Ono. But they thought to do me mischief.	2 Sanballat e Ghesem mi mandarono a dire: Vieni, troviamci insieme in alcuna delle ville della valle di Ono. Or essi macchinavano di farmi del male.
3 And I sent messengers to them, saying: I am doing a great work, and I cannot come down, lest it be neglected whilst I come, and go down to you.	3 Ed io mandai loro de’ messi, per dir loro: Io fo una grande opera, e non posso andarvi; perchè cesserebbe l’opera, tosto che io l’avrei lasciata, e sarei andato da voi?
4 And they sent to me according to this word, four times: and I answered them after the same manner.	4 Ed essi mi mandarono a dire la stessa cosa quattro volte; ed io feci loro la medesima risposta.
5 And Sanaballat sent his servant to me the fifth time according to the former word, and he had a letter in his hand written in this manner:	5 E Sanballat mi mandò il suo servitore a dirmi la medesima cosa la quinta volta; e quel servitore avea una lettera aperta in mano;
6 It is reported amongst the Gentiles, and Gossem hath said it, that thou and the Jews think to rebel, and therefore thou buildest the wall, and hast a mind to set thyself king over them : for which end	6 nella quale era scritto: Ei s’intende fra queste genti, e Gasmu dice, che tu e i Giudei deliberate di ribellarvi; e che perciò tu riedifichi le mura; e secondo ciò che se ne dice, tu diventi lor re.
7 Thou hast also set up prophets, to preach of thee at Jerusalem, saying: There is a king in Judea. The king will hear of these things: therefore come now, that we may take counsel together.	7 Ed anche, che tu hai costituiti de’ profeti, per predicar di te in Gerusalemme, dicendo: Ei v’è un re in Giuda. Or queste cose perverranno agli orecchi del re; ora dunque, vieni, e prendiamo consiglio insieme.
8 And I sent to them, saying: There is no such thing done as thou sayest: but thou feignest these things out of thy own heart.	8 Ma io gli mandai a dire: Queste cose che tu dici non sono; ma tu le fingi da te stesso.
9 For all these men thought to frighten us, thinking that our hands would cease from the work, and that we would leave off. Wherefore I strengthened my hands the more:	9 Perciocchè essi tutti ci spaventavano, dicendo: Le lor mani si rallenteranno, e lasceranno l’opera, sì che non si farà. Ora dunque, o Dio, fortifica le mie mani
10 And I went into the house of Samaia the son of Delaia, the son of Metabeel privately. And he said: Let us consult together in the house of God in the midst of the temple: and let us shut the doors of the temple, for they will come to kill thee, and in the night they will come to slay thee.	10 Oltre a ciò, essendo io entrato in casa di Semaia, figliuolo di Delaia, figliuolo di Mehetabeel, il quale era rattenuto, egli mi disse: Riduciamoci insieme nella Casa di Dio, dentro al Tempio, e serriamo le porte del Tempio; perciocchè coloro vengono per ucciderti; e per questo effetto arriveranno di notte.
11 And I said: Should such a man as I Bee? and who is there that being as I am, would go into the temple, to save his life? I will not go in.	11 Ma io risposi: Un uomo par mio fuggirebbe egli? e qual sarebbe il par mio ch’entrasse nel Tempio, per salvar la sua vita? Io non vi entrerò.
12 And I understood that God had not sent him, but that he had spoken to me as if he had been prophesying, and Tobias, and Sanaballat had hired him.	12 Ed io riconobbi che Iddio non l’avea mandato; perciocchè avea pronunziata quella profezia contro a me; e che Tobia e Sanballat gli davano pensione;
13 For he had taken money, that I being afraid should do this thing, and sin, and they might have some evil to upbraid me withal.	13 acciocchè fosse loro pensionario, per fare che io mi spaventassi, e facessi così come egli diceva, e commettessi peccato; onde avessero alcun soggetto di spargere alcuna cattiva fama, per vituperarmi.
14 Remember me, O Lord, for Tobias and Sanaballat, according to their works of this kind: and Noadias the prophet, and the rest of the prophets that would have put me in fear.	14 Ricordati, o Dio mio, di Tobia, e di Sanballat, secondo quest’opere di ciascun di loro. Ricordati anche della profetessa Noadia, e degli altri profeti che hanno cercato di spaventarmi
15 But the wall was finished the five and twentieth day of the month of Elul, in two and fifty days.	15 Or le mura furono finite al venticinquesimo giorno di Elul, nello spazio di cinquantadue giorni.
16 And it came to pass when all our enemies heard of it, that all nations which were round about us, were afraid, and were cast down within themselves, for they perceived that this work was the work of God.	16 E, quando tutti i nostri nemici ebbero ciò inteso, e tutte le nazioni ch’erano d’intorno a noi l’ebber veduto, si videro grandemente scaduti; e riconobbero che quest’opera era stata fatta dall’Iddio nostro.
17 Moreover in those days many letters were sent by the principal men of the Jews to Tobias, and from Tobias there came letters to them.	17 A que’ dì ancora andavano e venivano lettere di molti notabili di Giuda a Tobia, e di esso a loro.
18 For there were many in Judea sworn to him, because he was the son in law of Sechenias the son of Area, and Johanan his son had taken to wife the daughter of Mosollam the son of Barachias.	18 Perciocchè molti in Giuda erano in giuramento con lui; conciossiachè egli fosse genero il Secania, figliuolo di Ara; e Iohanan, suo figliuolo, avea presa per moglie la figliuola di Mesullam, figliuolo di Berechia.
19 And they praised him also before me, and they related my words to him: And Tobias sent letters to put me in fear.	19 Ed anche in presenza mia raccontavano le sue virtù, e gli palesavano i miei ragionamenti. E Tobia mandava lettere per ispaventarmi
