EL LIBRO DEL PUEBLO DE DIOS	NEW JERUSALEM
1 Al llegar el día de Pentecostés, estaban todos reunidos en el mismo lugar.	1 When Pentecost day came round, they had al met together,
2 De pronto, vino del cielo un ruido, semejante a una fuerte ráfaga de viento, que resonó en toda la casa donde se encontraban.	2 when suddenly there came from heaven a sound as of a violent wind which fil ed the entire house inwhich they were sitting;
3 Entonces vieron aparecer unas lenguas como de fuego, que descendieron por separado sobre cada uno de ellos.	3 and there appeared to them tongues as of fire; these separated and came to rest on the head of each ofthem.
4 Todos quedaron llenos del Espíritu Santo, y comenzaron a hablar en distintas lenguas, según el Espíritu les permitía expresarse.	4 They were al fil ed with the Holy Spirit and began to speak different languages as the Spirit gave thempower to express themselves.
5 Había en Jerusalén judíos piadosos, venidos de todas las naciones del mundo.	5 Now there were devout men living in Jerusalem from every nation under heaven,
6 Al oírse este ruido, se congregó la multitud y se llenó de asombro, porque cada uno los oía hablar en su propia lengua.	6 and at this sound they al assembled, and each one was bewildered to hear these men speaking hisown language.
7 Con gran admiración y estupor decían: «¿Acaso estos hombres que hablan no son todos galileos?	7 They were amazed and astonished. 'Surely,' they said, 'al these men speaking are Galileans?
8 ¿Cómo es que cada uno de nosotros los oye en su propia lengua?	8 How does it happen that each of us hears them in his own native language?
9 Partos, medos y elamitas, los que habitamos en la Mesopotamia o en la misma Judea, en Capadocia, en el Ponto y en Asia Menor,	9 Parthians, Medes and Elamites; people from Mesopotamia, Judaea and Cappadocia, Pontus and Asia,
10 en Frigia y Panfilia, en Egipto, en la Libia Cirenaica, los peregrinos de Roma,	10 Phrygia and Pamphylia, Egypt and the parts of Libya round Cyrene; residents of Rome-
11 judíos y prosélitos, cretenses y árabes, todos los oímos proclamar en nuestras lenguas las maravillas de Dios».	11 Jews and proselytes alike -- Cretans and Arabs, we hear them preaching in our own language aboutthe marvels of God.'
12 Unos a otros se decían con asombro: «¿Qué significa esto?».	12 Everyone was amazed and perplexed; they asked one another what it all meant.
13 Algunos, burlándose, comentaban: «Han tomado demasiado vino».	13 Some, however, laughed it off. 'They have been drinking too much new wine,' they said.
14 Entonces, Pedro poniéndose de pie con los Once, levantó la voz y dijo: «Hombres de Judea y todos los que habitan en Jerusalén, presten atención, porque voy a explicarles lo que ha sucedido.	14 Then Peter stood up with the Eleven and addressed them in a loud voice: 'Men of Judaea, and al youwho live in Jerusalem, make no mistake about this, but listen careful y to what I say.
15 Estos hombres no están ebrios, como ustedes suponen, ya que no son más que las nueve de la mañana,	15 These men are not drunk, as you imagine; why, it is only the third hour of the day.
16 sino que se está cumpliendo lo que dijo el profeta Joel:	16 On the contrary, this is what the prophet was saying:
17 "En los últimos días, dice el Señor, derramaré mi Espíritu sobre todos los hombres y profetizarán sus hijos y sus hijas; los jóvenes verán visiones y los ancianos tendrán sueños proféticos.	17 In the last days -- the Lord declares -- I shal pour out my Spirit on al humanity. Your sons anddaughters shal prophesy, your young people shal see visions, your old people dream dreams.
18 Más aún, derramaré mi Espíritu sobre mis servidores y servidoras, y ellos profetizarán.	18 Even on the slaves, men and women, shall I pour out my Spirit.
19 Haré prodigios arriba, en el cielo, y signos abajo, en la tierra: verán sangre, fuego y columnas de humo.	19 I will show portents in the sky above and signs on the earth below.
20 El sol se convertirá en tinieblas y la luna en sangre, antes que llegue el Día del Señor, día grande y glorioso.	20 The sun wil be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the day of the Lord comes, thatgreat and terrible Day.
21 Y todo el que invoque el nombre del Señor se salvará".	21 And al who cal on the name of the Lord will be saved.
22 Israelitas, escuchen: A Jesús de Nazaret, el hombre que Dios acreditó ante ustedes realizando por su intermedio los milagros, prodigios y signos que todos conocen,	22 'Men of Israel, listen to what I am going to say: Jesus the Nazarene was a man commended to you byGod by the miracles and portents and signs that God worked through him when he was among you, as youknow.
23 a ese hombre que había sido entregado conforme al plan y a la previsión de Dios, ustedes lo hicieron morir, clavándolo en la cruz por medio de los infieles.	23 This man, who was put into your power by the deliberate intention and foreknowledge of God, you tookand had crucified and kil ed by men outside the Law.
24 Pero Dios lo resucitó, librándolo de las angustias de la muerte, porque no era posible que ella tuviera dominio sobre él.	24 But God raised him to life, freeing him from the pangs of Hades; for it was impossible for him to be heldin its power since,
25 En efecto, refiriéndose a él, dijo David: "Veía sin cesar al Señor delante de mí, porque él está a mi derecha para que yo no vacile.	25 as David says of him: I kept the Lord before my sight always, for with him at my right hand nothing canshake me.
26 Por eso se alegra mi corazón y mi lengua canta llena de gozo. También mi cuerpo descansará en la esperanza,	26 So my heart rejoiced my tongue delighted; my body, too, wil rest secure,
27 porque tú no entregarás mi alma al Abismo, ni dejarás que tu servidor sufra la corrupción.	27 for you will not abandon me to Hades or al ow your holy one to see corruption.
28 Tú me has hecho conocer los caminos de la vida y me llenarás de gozo en tu presencia".	28 You have taught me the way of life, you wil fil me with joy in your presence.
29 Hermanos, permítanme decirles con toda franqueza que el patriarca David murió y fue sepultado, y su tumba se conserva entre nosotros hasta el día de hoy.	29 'Brothers, no one can deny that the patriarch David himself is dead and buried: his tomb is stil with us.
30 Pero como él era profeta, sabía que Dios le había jurado que un descendiente suyo se sentaría en su trono.	30 But since he was a prophet, and knew that God had sworn him an oath to make one of hisdescendants succeed him on the throne,
31 Por eso previó y anunció la resurrección del Mesías, cuando dijo que no fue entregado al Abismo ni su cuerpo sufrió la corrupción.	31 he spoke with foreknowledge about the resurrection of the Christ: he is the one who was notabandoned to Hades, and whose body did not see corruption.
32 A este Jesús, Dios lo resucitó, y todos nosotros somos testigos.	32 God raised this man Jesus to life, and of that we are al witnesses.
33 Exaltado por el poder de Dios, él recibió del Padre el Espíritu Santo prometido, y lo ha comunicado como ustedes ven y oyen.	33 Now raised to the heights by God's right hand, he has received from the Father the Holy Spirit, whowas promised, and what you see and hear is the outpouring of that Spirit.
34 Porque no es David el que subió a los cielos; al contrario, él mismo afirma: "Dijo el Señor a mi Señor: Siéntate a mi derecha,	34 For David himself never went up to heaven, but yet he said: The Lord declared to my Lord, take yourseat at my right hand,
35 hasta que ponga a todos tus enemigos debajo de tus pies".	35 till I have made your enemies your footstool.
36 Por eso, todo el pueblo de Israel debe reconocer que a ese Jesús que ustedes crucificaron, Dios lo ha hecho Señor y Mesías».	36 'For this reason the whole House of Israel can be certain that the Lord and Christ whom God has madeis this Jesus whom you crucified.'
37 Al oír estas cosas, todos se conmovieron profundamente, y dijeron a Pedro y a los otros Apóstoles: «Hermanos, ¿qué debemos hacer?».	37 Hearing this, they were cut to the heart and said to Peter and the other apostles, 'What are we to do,brothers?'
38 Pedro les respondió: «Conviértanse y háganse bautizar en el nombre de Jesucristo para que les sean perdonados los pecados, y así recibirán el don del Espíritu Santo.	38 'You must repent,' Peter answered, 'and every one of you must be baptised in the name of Jesus Christfor the forgiveness of your sins, and you wil receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.
39 Porque la promesa ha sido hecha a ustedes y a sus hijos, y a todos aquellos que están lejos: a cuantos el Señor, nuestro Dios, quiera llamar».	39 The promise that was made is for you and your children, and for al those who are far away, for althose whom the Lord our God is cal ing to himself.'
40 Y con muchos otros argumentos les daba testimonio y los exhortaba a que se pusieran a salvo de esta generación perversa.	40 He spoke to them for a long time using many other arguments, and he urged them, 'Save yourselvesfrom this perverse generation.'
41 Los que recibieron su palabra se hicieron bautizar; y ese día se unieron a ellos alrededor de tres mil.	41 They accepted what he said and were baptised. That very day about three thousand were added totheir number.
42 Todos se reunían asiduamente para escuchar la enseñanza de los Apóstoles y participar en la vida común, en la fracción del pan y en las oraciones.	42 These remained faithful to the teaching of the apostles, to the brotherhood, to the breaking of breadand to the prayers.
43 Un santo temor se apoderó de todos ellos, porque los Apóstoles realizaban muchos prodigios y signos.	43 And everyone was fil ed with awe; the apostles worked many signs and miracles.
44 Todos los creyentes se mantenían unidos y ponían lo suyo en común:	44 And al who shared the faith owned everything in common;
45 vendían sus propiedades y sus bienes, y distribuían el dinero entre ellos, según las necesidades de cada uno.	45 they sold their goods and possessions and distributed the proceeds among themselves according towhat each one needed.
46 Intimamente unidos, frecuentaban a diario el Templo, partían el pan en sus casas, y comían juntos con alegría y sencillez de corazón;	46 Each day, with one heart, they regularly went to the Temple but met in their houses for the breaking ofbread; they shared their food gladly and generously;
47 ellos alababan a Dios y eran queridos por todo el pueblo. Y cada día, el Señor acrecentaba la comunidad con aquellos que debían salvarse.	47 they praised God and were looked up to by everyone. Day by day the Lord added to their communitythose destined to be saved.
